It's up to 35 games now. Anyone want to wager a guess as to how long Luis can keep it up?

Because you made this thread, I say...

35 games...it gets snapped tonight.
Otherwise, it would have gone to 57!!

I think he will break the NL record of 44, but not break Dimaggio's record.

I think he has a shot. He's one of the fastest men in MLB, fast enough he can run out a lot of ground balls and turn them into hits.

Okay, from now on, no "hit streak" threads until the streak is broken.

Well, did you see the 9th? Luis Castillo on deck, game tied at 4, runner on second. Wild pitch, runner moves to 3rd. Tim Raines hits a sac fly, Marlins win, Castillo doesn't get a fifth AB. I think he'll take the win over the streak, though.

I apologize to Luis Castillo for starting this thread and thus tipping karma against him.

I don't know about that. He seemed pretty bummed out after the game.

He shouldn't be bummed that he didn't get that 5th at bat - he had already had 4 at bats and couldn't get it done....didn't the same thing happen to Paul Molitor in Milwaukee ?

There was an article yesterday quoting Detroit's manager saying they would have walked Castillo had he come up after Tim Raines.

1)I'm bitter that you homies have not given me the proper respect for predicting the end of the streak.

2)If Castillo cared more about winning than his streak, he would have been celebrating the win with the rest of his teammates instead of staring off into space like a boy who lost his dog while Jeff Torborg then Cliff Floyd consoled him.

3)If he cared more about winning than his streak, he wouldn't be upset that the Tigers were going to walk him rather than allow him to get a potential game-winning hit.

Castillo is a really good ball player, but let this streak go to his head, and it became all about him and not about the team.

Yes. When Molitor's 39(?) game hitting streak ended in 1987, he was on deck in the 10th as Rick Manning drove in the winning run.
