I'll let other people take the thread over with the main console releases, but I can tell you right now the DS version is a piece of shit.

The EBA-like touch screen controls are gone, instead you move your wrestler independently with the directional buttons, and draw lines and circles on the touch screen to do strikes and grapples.

Except the controls are really poorly implemented. There's no reliable way to execute a grapple, you'll either miss or get interrupted most of the time.

Also, the matches go on for much longer than they have to, considering how slow everything is.

And one of the training games involves blowing into the microphone, my least favorite innovation of the DS ever!

I'm expecting that Gamefly will have delivered the game when I get home from work.

Which is a lawsuit they could actually win. Which would be good for their self esteem. Hulk Hogan got away with it, so I don't think it's Case Closed, Pirate Hunter Zolo.

I think it's over-sensitive and ridiculous.

This game is......pretty much the same as last year. Just better graphics and minor gameplay tweaks. Still lots of fun multiplayer, with the aggravation of screwed up targeting intact. Nothing like fighting a friend in a Elimination Chamber and all of a sudden you for no reason turn and attack another player, leaving that friend an opening to attack.

Overall I'd say ***1/2. And then minus ********** for not having Santino's victory trombone as a taunt.

My copy from Gamefly still hasn't arrived, but I went over a friend's house yesterday to play for a few hours.

I really like that you can finally edit the roster, change their costumes, brands and music. The first big laugh of the game was when we played an extreme rules triple threat between Tazz, Ric Flair, and Santino Marella. My buddy edited Flair's music so when he came out, it was to his rockin' farewell theme: "Leave the Memories Alone!"

I'm glad they kept the weapon wheel and fire in the game, but I'm ever so pissed they limited brawling in the audience.

Speaking of fire, a Kofi Kingston vs. William Regal Inferno match for the Intercontinental Title went on way, way too long as we couldn't seem to get the whole "wait until the flames are at 300 degrees, then hard grapple and drag/counter with mini-game" sequence right. Kofi with his ass on fire outside the ring was good for a chuckle.

A Hell in a Cell match with MVP, Edge, and Jeff Hardy was exactly like in previous games, although it seemed to me the Cell was much smaller around the ring this time around.

Finally, we did the Tag Team Road to WrestleMania, where you can only play as Batista and Rey Mysterio. Batista is still one of the most awkward characters to play in the game. His moveset is questionable; he does the Undertaker's Horrifying DDT and moves like kneedrops slingshot from the top rope. Rey Rey was a lot more fun to play as since you can run around the ring and do flying ranas. The 619 has two variations where it either ends in his slingshot splash or seated senton, but they stupidly didn't make the senton an automatic pin attempt. After hitting it, you still have to wander back over the opponent and make the cover.

The tag team storyline was nothing too innovative. Rey and Batista feud with Miz and Morrsion for a couple of weeks, earn a title shot and then win the titles. This leads directly to Royal Rumble where they compete against each other, which I won as Rey. Then Batista got the No Way Out match with Edge where Rey gets to hang out at ringside and interfere in a no DQ match. Batista won the title. Then they have to team up a few more times until Rey vs. Batista headlines WrestleMania. (Gripe: The WrestleMania 24 set is used but their version of the Citrus Bowl has a roof. Stupid.)

We then mutually decided to have the single shittiest match in WrestleMania history. As soon as the bell rang, we each dove out of the ring and grabbed a weapon, then we charged at each other. Batista ended up hitting Rey first, got DQ's, and Rey is the new World Heavyweight Champion. Worst WrestleMania Main Event Ever. And that was it for the story mode.

Based on what I've seen of the game, I'm pretty sure I won't buy it. I'll just play through everything with my rented copy and send it back. There seems to be no replay value for the Road to WrestleMania modes after you play through each storyline with each character. There's no GM Mode anymore so I can't run a brand, which is why I played the 2007 game so much.

If the downloaded content promised actually will have wrestlers, like Ted DiBiase and Manu added to the game, that might change things.

I got hold of the PS2 version today. I've not had a chance to put any real time into it yet, but one thing I was pleasantly surprised about was that loading times have been reduced. That was the last thing I was expecting from the PS2 version.

Funny you should say that. Ted DiBiase is actually part of the first round of DLC with Charlie Haas, Super Crazy, and Evan Bourne.

Also, No Pants Jericho DLC!

Thank God! I can't stand not seeing his shiny legs.

My Gamefly arrived yesterday so I went right to work. Unlocked everything except Snitsky and Boogeyman. I feel keeping them out of the game only increases its playability.

Played through the Road to WrestleMania as Chris Jericho. I like that he can do the Codebreaker, Walls of Jericho and the Lionsault and finish with all three. They did a good job with Jericho.

Playing through as Jericho unlocks the WCW World Title belt and brand, for all the good being able to list people in the WCW brand does you. The WCW Title automatically goes to Ric Flair - Woooooooo! - but for some reason the graphics and the ring announcers all refer to it as the WCW Classic World Champion. "Still the WCW Classic World Champion - Ric Flair!" I hate THQ so fucking much. They do this shit on purpose.

I played a six Diva tag team match. The Divas are probably the most improved characters in the game. Even though Candice and Maria wear high heels (why?) when the others don't, and Beth is in her old, old costume, the movesets are a hell of a lot better now. Mickie and Candice actually move like they should. Kelly too. They put all of Mickie's offense in the game, although I couldn't figure out how to do her "wrap her legs in the corner and rana" move (which my crowd affectionately refers to as the "face full of roast beef"). I couldn't figure out if Candice does the Unprettier or not, but Kelly does the Rocker Dropper.

No Divas Title belt in the game. Not like that belt hasn't existed since the spring or anything. The Cruiserweight belt is in the game still.

I played as Melina and won the Women's Title in Career mode. Pretty much figured out all her offense. They did a good job with her too. That storyline unlocked the US Title and IC Title in Career mode and it seemed to imply Melina should go on to compete for those belts, which makes no sense.

The Road to WrestleMania storymodes so far have been entertaining. The wrestlers do a pretty good job with the voice overs and the storylines are more realistic (so far as I've seen). No "Candice has a magic wand" storylines like in 2007. The weirdest thing in the Jericho storyline is what a total pussy Finlay is in the backstage segments. Jericho bullies him around and beats him up. His name is Finlay! He loves to cower!

I played through RTWM wish Cena and Undertaker already and I'm just starting Jericho's. It's good to hear that his moveset works out rather well, cause I feel like they totally botched his appearance and entrance. He never even USED the Vol.8 theme for Pete's sake!

I gotta say, I LOVE Undertaker's RTWM. If the rumor I read that it was a rejected WWE storyline is true I'm truly sad because I would have loved to have lived through that one. XD

Also, I anxiously await MVP's

I know Super Crazy only quit like a week ago, but I love that even the downloadable roster is dated by the time it arrives.

Never had much interest in the SDvR series but I am considering giving it another shot. It sounds kinda fun.

I have tried the DS version and, yeah, it's not great. Having said that, I only played one match so far - Elijah Burke vs. Big Daddy V in a loser-leave-town match - as well as the tutorials.

I do like some of the minigame concepts, like winning the ladder match by tapping buttons on the title belt to unhook it. Wrestling games have often had a hard time with gimmick matches and I am usually open to new concepts. But I liked the Ultimate X matches in TNA Impact too, so what do I know?

I know the DS version is kinda bad, but is it weird that I also kinda enjoy it.

The matches are slow, but I'm starting to get better. It really would have benefited with button controls though. It's hard to get the difference between a strong or light grapple.

Regarding the home console versions, how is the Create a Finisher option? Has anyone tried it as of yet?

From what I hear, the big deal is the load time sbeing better, which was a HUGE drawback for the 2008 version. There stands a good chance I wil receive this for Christmas!

I know people have said "It's the same as last year's" but if I haven't had a Smackdown game for a "Next Gen" console, is this one a good one to pick up, or should I just wait to see how it pans out again next year?

The weapon select on the Wii version does away with the wheel entirely, in favor of a brief first-person view of "going under the ring", with several objects displayed. Point at your weapon of choice (chair, kendo stick, table, fire extinguisher, barbwire 2x4) with the Wiimote and wail away. If you have Hornswoggle accompany you, he'll pop out from under the ring and toss in a shillelagh at one point during the match.

Ok, so my friends and I were playing a Chamber match last night. It gets down to me(MVP), my friends Jason(Rey), Jerwayne(Shelton) and computer controlled Taker. Jerwayne pins Jason, I pin Jerwayne(thanks to some well-timed(lucky) finisher counters). So it's me and Computertaker, who is already in all-red damage. After a little back and forth I hit a SD and a signature move back-to-back and pin with my feet on the ropes. And Taker kicks out. And proceeds to counter *every* move I try and hits about 10 flying clotheslines and a Tombstone to beat me. I guess art imitates life!

The first downloadable roster pack is coming out next month, with most of what was mentioned before.

* Evan Bourne - playable Superstar
* Ted DiBiase - playable Superstar
* Charlie Haas - playable Superstar
* Chris Jericho - alternate attire

So they ended up just pulling Super Crazy without a replacement. Which kinda makes this injured guy, "injured" guy, guy who doesn't actually wrestle as himself anymore (or: guy not on TV, guy not on TV, guy barely on TV + Jericho's legs!)

PS3 exclusives
* Kelly Kelly - holiday costume
* Maria Santa - holiday costume
* Masked Kane - alternate attire
* MVP - alternate attire
* Edge - alternate attire

Santa gear for January = fail. I think $5 is a little too much for this, but maybe because I'd only bother playing with Bourne. There are pictures of all this stuff on WWE.com - MVP's gear is his original gear, Maria's hair looks bad, etc.
