By not-so-popular demand, the reviews return...for at least a week.

FINAL CRISIS: RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS: Ok, let's face it. To try and re-create the sense of amazement that the Sinestro Corps Special of last year had would be utter madness. With that said, this issue fares very well on its own. The plot has nothing to do with Final Crisis, but sees Sinestro being taken off for his execution before the Sinestro Corps ambush the GL's. The RL's then make their big debut and kill a whole lot of Green Lanterns and Sinestro Corps members dead. The most haunting image is definitely the Adorable Kitty Cat that happens to be a bloodthirsty Red Lantern. Look for hints towards Orange and Blue Lanterns to pop up this issue also. Dammit, just when I started to feel like I could put down Green Lantern, Geoff Johns sucks me back in. Thumbs WAY up!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #1: The Jackpot reveal is FINALLY here and it turns out to be...a total unknown. I waited two years for THAT? It's not a bad issue by any means, but the disappointing reveal is such a buzzkill. Thumbs down.

THOR #11: Bought this one today after a high recommendation and I was not disappointed. The series itself is pretty solid, but the selling point for this issue is the RETURN OF STEVE ROGERS...er...sort of. Thor and Steve have their big goodbye in an exchange that shouldn't be missed by any fan of the old Captain America or the classic Avengers. Outstanding! Thumbs up!

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #3: The premise for this book alone sold me here, which is that Peter and Mary Jane take their relationship...well...there. The big reveal at the end threw me for a loop and leaves me a bit skeptical (and jaded as to the direction this could go), but it was still a good read. Thumbs up!

BONUS REVIEWS:

FINAL CRISIS #4: Warning! Read "Final Crisis: Submit" before picking this one up for maximum enjoyment. Darkseid's reign of terror continues. This book shines by making a star out of the new Tattooed Man, spotlighting Green Arrow, and teasing the arrival of Black Adam into the fray on behalf of Earth. Those first three issues were confusing as hell, but now it's all starting to clear up and it can only get better from here. Thumbs up!

SECRET INVASION #7: While the issue and the fight itself did not impress me, I did enjoy Norman Osborn and Nick Fury's dialog. Also enjoyed Clint Barton picking up a bow and going Classic Hawkeye, but it's already been done in this series once. And MAN was that ever a cheesy setup for Uatu's entrance. It all ends in December, thankfully, because the post-Invasion plans sound a lot more promising than the Skrull Invasion, which is PLAYED. Thumbs down.

JOKER (HARDCOVER): The stand-alone Joker release that came out this week is required reading for anyone who calls themselves a Joker fan. That is all. Thumbs WAY up and Highest Recommendation! No joke (and no pun intended), it's THAT good!

What exactly is in this Joker hardcover? Is it reprints of past Joker stories like The Greatest Joker Stories Ever Told? If so, which ones, by which creators?

Also, I for one missed these updates.

Same. I don't read much, but I always like to hear what's going on.

Secret Invasion #7 has a page which shows everything that's wrong with the entire event. There's a Galactus skrull (which I knew was going to wind up happening), and this skrull, who ostensibly carries the Power Cosmic, is getting his ass handed to him by a teenage girl who's power is that she gets big. The skrulls have all the power in the universe at their command, but send out wolverine skrulls for their big mission of conquest. And why even make the invasion secret in the first place if you can muster that much overwhelming force? I think I'm just going to pretend that Galactus skrull doesn't really have the Power Cosmic, he's just made himself look like Galactus to freak everybody out.

I'll throw in that I have missed these updates too. Like Hansen9j, I don't read much anymore, but I like to keep up.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
I kind of like the idea of Mysterio possibly having powers. Kind of like the inverse of Kraven's first appearance.

Agreed. Was this in any particular continuity, or was this just taking the characters and telling a good story? (What with Joker looks like Ledger, with the smile scars.)
