David Tennant announced that he will be leaving the show after the TV specials next year.

Not a surprise, but now it's official.

It's a shame since he may have been my favorite next to Tom Baker.

Here's a link from Outpost Gallifrey in case some of you fellow W's would like to read details about this. (gallifreyone.com)

I'm disheartened. To me, David Tennant is so definitive as the Doctor that I can't even fathom at this point who could ever fill his shoes. That said, I'm also very VERY confident about the future of Doctor WHO, since Steven Moffat is quite frankly, amazing. Just off the examples of his writing for the series already, 'Coupling' and 'Jekyll,' I think the direction he'll take with WHO will be compelling, intriguing, and and very distinct from the Russell T. era (of which, I am a HUGE fan).

So, fellow Whovians, 2010 brings a new Doctor, a new companion and a new Executive Producer. Talk about ushering in a new decade with a bang!

I'm sure the rumors have likely been debunked, but I remember reading this summer rumors that Alan Rickman was a potential person to be the next Doctor. That would be interesting as all get-out.

I think that rumour ended up going nowhere I'm afraid.

Latest odds and rumours here (telegraph.co.uk) if you're interested.

Can't say any of the names are that inspiring to me. I love John Simm, but I think he'd be horribly miscast as the Doctor.

A while back there were some rumours they were looking at going for a female Doc, but haven't heard anything on that front for a while which, to be honest, I'm pretty grateful about.
