| #1 Posted on 20.6.02 1445.11 Reposted on: 20.6.09 1459.01 | but I don't know what it means for the rest of the country with Jesse Ventura not running for governor this year. It could be he's setting his sights on a Presidential run in 2004, God help us, seeing as how the national media and public seem to buy into his politics. It's amazing how high his approval rate still is in Minnesota, especially in areas outside of the Twin Cities. If he didn't get his way with the media or they caught him in one of his lies (claiming to be a Navy SEAL), he would basically shut off all communication with them and pout.
His record in office here was marred by his personal interests in making money and not those of the state; national public appearances and most recently the shutting down of the governor's mansion.
If ever there were a heel governor, he would be it. | Promote this thread! | | DMC

Isn't he a third party Governer in a state with only two or three third party State Congressmen? I would imagine that would greatly impede his ability to make progress. | Zeruel

Approval ratings have been dropping pretty much unilaterally, so it's not like he was the one governor that sucked. He made his impact, he's leaving, and now people like (hopefully) me have to find something either of substance (but boring) or interesting (but meaningless at best) to cover. | OlFuzzyBastard

As a governor he claimed to do things that he never really did. Mostly, people in the Twin Cities are mad at him because of his blatant abuse of power. He thinks he's more important than he is. There was a state workers strike here last summer and he was nowhere to be found. But once the strike was settled, he popped out of the shadows. It's repeated actions like this that have turned people off from Jesse. He is a third party candidate, the Jesse Party. There was another independent state congressmen, but he'll be retired from office in November. Jesse did nothing to help advance third party politics in the state, much less try and bridge any gaps in politics between dems and republicans. I actually kind of hope he runs for president so he can be embarrassed in front of the nation and hopefully we'll never have to hear from him again. | El Weasel

Which leads me to the thing I most dislike about what he's done. If you are outside Minnesota you don't care. I did not live here when he got elected, unfortunately I do now. The budget for this state is way to big, he couldn't keep it under control. It was nice when the economy was going and there was all this cash available for everything due to the high taxes here, the problem is when the economy slowed they did not slow down, they being Jesse and the legislature. | Papercuts!
