At some point in the last 30 minutes, Wienerville passed the 2 million pages served mark.

Keep an eye out, and you might be the one to get number 2,000,000 on the views counter in the top left of every page.

(The web server and database are off, and I can't remember why. Trust me, we passed 2 million )

Not bad for under 6 months.

only slighty off.

The number as I look at it is: 1,986,824.

Still cool though.

Right now the number is 1,987,107.

Guru had a "premature" celebration. Don't worry Zim it happens to the best of us. Well except for me

No, really, in the logs we ARE over 2,000,000. For some reason, there is a discrepency between the logs and the database.

I'm not sure how the 14,000 page view difference in the database views and log files happened.

Could you have reset the view count on the page for the views before the board was actually open?

Well, I suspect that in the logs it is counting pages that partially load but don't get as far as the SQL for updating the views table.

I'm not too worried about it Pick whichever number you want to believe...

Aha, now one sees the utility of a database with proper transactions.

Although if the difference between the two numbers has stayed constant, I'd suggest that's not what the issue is.

Are there any static pages on the site? Or were there?

And are you talking Apache logs vs. MySQL logs? Are there any pages that require multiple database accesses?

Or was the database rebuilt at some point?

Or should I just stop spinning my wheels and pretend you never told us your odometers don't agree?

;)

It's not a database inconsistency issue.. It's that some PHP pages don't ping the DB to update the stupid "pages viewed" counter, because they exit before getting to that SQL statement (or because they don't call it at all).

The page views Zim are talking about come from the Apache logs, all pages served with extensions html, php, and a few others.

Apache logs -v- The views table which is updated via a mysql query as the page is generated.

There shouldn't be any pages on the site that don't call that query, unless.... maybe the FAQ. Still, I doubt there are 14,000 views of the FAQ.

It honestly never really bothered me why they don't match. They are close enough that I don't think either one is seriously flawed.
