TONIGHT: A six-man tag re-match from last week pits John Cena and Cryme Tyme against Cody Rhodes, Ted Dibiase and JBL. That’s about all WWE.com will give us, but I’m assuming we’ll also get fall-out from the Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels match from last night as well. Also, bet on some McMahon reaction from the last few weeks’ chaos-induced Raw episodes. Will we possibly get a new GM?

-WWE Open.

-Clips from last night’s World Championship match aired, specifically, once Kane interfered. They then showed Batista in the production truck, watching that video. At least he wasn’t whipping the production team.

-Raw Open (for the first time in how long?).

-Fireworks, Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler welcomed viewers to Raw, then previewed the main event re-match from last week that will take place tonight.

-But starting things off was Batista, dapperly dressed as always. Batista said he planned to come out as new champion, but he blamed Kane for not being able to. Batista said Shane and Stephanie were not at the show, so he was putting himself in charge (big pop for that). He said he’d only make one match- CM Punk defending the World Heavyweight Championship against himself. Batista then threatened Kane, saying Kane better find him before he finds Kane. Batista was interrupted by John Bradshaw Layfield, who was backstage talking to the camera.

JBL said Batista was in charge of nothing. JBL said Batista wasn’t special as he didn’t win his match, but JBL did. He said the next World Title Match is his. Batista said they seem to have a difference of opinion, and offered JBL a chance to come down and the two of them discuss it. JBL said people answer to him, he’s the boss. He decreed that he’d get the title at SummerSlam, as his body doesn’t feel like a World Title match after last night. JBL stumbled a bit, saying he’d finish off Cena tonight. JBL said Batista should go settle things with Kane. Then CM Punk came out to, hopefully, clear things up.

Punk told JBL that he was right; it is the law of the jungle. He said since he’s champ, that makes him king. He turned his attention to Batista, saying Kane screwed things up for him last night too. He wanted to prove that Batista was beatable, but he didn’t get the chance. Punk then accepted Batista’s re-match challenge for tonight. JBL strongly disagreed with that idea and he began yelling until Batista told the truck to mute JBL. They did, and Batista and Punk agreed on their match for tonight.

[Break]

-Jenny McCarthy plugged her appearance on Saturday Night’s Main Event.

-Shawn Michaels’ music hit....but then it switched to Lance Cade’s music and Cade came out. Cade challenged Michaels to a fight, but instead, Paul London came out apparently for their scheduled match.

(1) Lance Cade vs. Paul London
London missed a cross-body, allowing Cade to take over. Back-breaker by Cade. London got his feet up in the corner and did a cross-body for two. You can tell London was taught by Michaels on an over-selling shoulderblock. Cade finished London off with his Rock Bottom into a spinebuster.

Winner: Cade, at 2:50.

Cade then introduced the man who ended HBK’s career, Chris Jericho. He’ll talk....after break.

[Break]

-Jericho and Cade were in the ring out of break. Y2J said HBK wasn’t going to be there tonight, despite everyone wanting him to be. He then rolled footage of last night’s beating, complete with dramatic music. Jericho blamed the fans, as HBK came out, even though he was injured, to wrestle last night. He once again said fans don’t deserve to be saved. Y2J said HBK will regret wrestling last night, as in all probability, his career is over. Jericho said HBK has a detached retina, internal bleeding, hot dog fingers (well, he left that one out) and will never see correctly again. Jericho said he wasn’t the man the fans were expecting when he came back. He said he grew up, but the fans didn’t. Jericho said he was proud of what he did last night and he now considers himself saved. Great promo.

[Break]

(2) Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix
A couple of pushes, and we’re off. Kelly tried rolling Beth up after Beth missed a corner clothesline, but that didn’t work. Beth carried Kelly across the ring and rammed her back-first into the buckle. Bodyslam followed that up. “Let’s go Kelly” chants as Beth tried to stretch Kelly. Enziguiri grazed Beth and hurricanrana’d Beth. Handspring elbow right into Beth’s grip, and she put Kelly up in her submission finisher. Kelly rolled through, but Beth hit her with a wheelbarrow slam for the finish.

Winner: Beth, at 3:04.

-CM Punk defends against Batista, again tonight. Also, the six-man tag from last week is replayed tonight, actually, next!

[Break]

-Jim Duggan was out and said he wouldn’t take up much time, as a match was next. He said he was hanging up his boots. He briefly went through his career accomplishments and said maybe Dibiase and Rhodes were right last week. Duggan said he just wanted to come out and say thanks. Jerry Lawler stopped Duggan and went into the ring. Lawler said there was no age limit in WWE and he doesn’t care what Rhodes and Dibiase said last week. Lawler said Duggan can do something Barack Obama and John McCain would kill for: Just by his appearance, fans start chanting “USA, USA!” Lawler asked Duggan if he really wanted to give that up. Hacksaw said no. Duggan said he needed someone to tell him that. Then Dibiase & Rhodes came out.

Dibiase got the mic and ridiculed Lawler for giving Duggan advice, then took a shot at Lawler for dating women younger than them. Cody put things in perspective by saying he was 2 ½ years old when Duggan won the first Royal Rumble. When Lawler went on Letterman to slap Andy Kaufman, neither champ was born. Lawler demonstrated the slap on Rhodes (since, ya know, he didn’t see it), who Dibiase had to hold back. Dibiase said they’d finish this some other time....they have a match. JBL came out for the match, which will happen (no, really this time) next.
[Break]

(3) Ted Dibiase & Cody Rhodes & JBL vs. Cryme Tyme & John Cena
JBL had a limp and Cena was sporting a large ace-type bandage on his arm. Cena and Rhodes started the match off. Face-buster (generously called a “bulldog” by Cole) by Cena for two. He pwned Rhodes until he tagged Shad in. T-bone suplex by Shad on Dibiase. Dibiase hung JTG out to dry on the top rope, then tagged JBL in to do some damage. Dibiase came in and double-stomped JTG in the gut off the second turnbuckle. The heels continued work on JTG’s ribs. JBL audibly got pissed at referee John Cone for missing a Dibiase pin attempt. Leg-scissors applied by Dibiase. Cody missed a corner shoulder charge and that finally allowed JTG to tag Cena. Cena went after JBL and brawled until JBL left through the crowd. Cena put both of the tag champs on his back, threw Rhodes off first, then Dibiase, then made the pin.

Winners: Cena & Cryme Tyme, at 9:58. Another solid match, though I could do without Cena making the champs look like chumps. Good visual though.

-Still to come, CM Punk vs. Batista.

-Jericho and Cade were leaving when someone stopped them in their tracks...it was Kane, who entered the arena.

[Break]

-They showed clips of an event for autism at Jenny McCarthy’s house that WWE was involved in. Highlights included Charlie Sheen and Tim Allen making WWE-related comments.

(4) Mickie James & Kofi Kingston vs. Katie Lea & Paul Burchill- Inter-Gender Tag Match
Mickie showed a ton of energy early on, hitting a hurricanrana on Katie. Burchill went after Mickie after she slapped him, but Kofi hit him with a high cross-body (almost over-shot him too). Kofi and Burchill were in there, and Katie distracted Kofi long enough for Kofi to take out his knee. Kofi slipped on a clothesline, and may have hurt his knee. Mickie took out Katie and they brawled on the outside. Burchill went out and threw Mickie around. Kofi missed a kick and hit the post with his ankle. Neck-breaker by Burchill....and that’s it?

Winners: Katie & Paul, at 3:26. Not a bad little match.

-Jamie Noble tried hitting on Layla again, but Batista came up to him and asked if he’d seen Kane. Noble was clearly uncomfortable, although he didn’t outright insult Batista. Batista grabbed him in a choke and told him to tell Kane he’s looking for him if he sees him.

[Break]

-Todd Grisham was backstage with CM Punk. He asked why Punk decided to put the title on the line again tonight. Punk said he didn’t want to take the easy way out. Before he could finish, JBL walked into the picture. He said he fully intends to wrestle the World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam. JBL called Punk a transitional champion. Punk reminded JBL that his first successful title defense came against him.

[Break]

-Footage from earlier of HBK and Y2J’s battle last night aired.

-Santino said last week, his challenge was to MEN; not people with fallopian tubes (his words). He re-issued his challenge: To a man.

(5) Santino Marella vs. D-Lo Brown
No chest-protector? I’m disappointed. Beth came out to ringside before the match. Santino grabbed a headlock, but D-Lo got the better of Santino until he missed a charge. “Let’s go D-Lo” chant from the crowd. Suplex by D-Lo, then his trademark legdrop. Seated clothesline, then he headed to the top. Lo-Down finished it quickly.

Winner: Brown, at 1:34.

-Beth punched Santino and tried to get Marella to fight him. They traded go-behinds and trash talk but they ended up staring at each other. Santino went in for a kiss and landed one on Beth. They both looked uncomfortable as Santino left the ring.

-Batista vs. Punk is coming up next.

[Break]

-Toby Keith plugged Jenny McCarthy and WWE’s fight against autism.

-Apparently, the McMahons have put out applications for a new GM. My friend suggested Tony Schiavone, but sadly, that seems unlikely.

-Batista came out for his match, but so did Kane. Kane attacked and CM Punk came out and clotheslined Kane over the top. Referees came out to send Kane to the back. He angrily went after another cameraman. The ref asked Batista if he was OK to continue and apparently he was, as he got in a shouting match with Punk as the show went to break.

[Break]

(6) Batista vs. CM Punk, World Heavyweight Title Match
Big boot to the face by Batista was the first big move of the match. Batista stayed on Punk in the corner, but Punk came out with a swinging neckbreaker. Dropkick to the back of the head by Punk got a one-count. Drop toe-hold by Punk, who then tried to ground Batista. It worked until Big Dave threw Punk off of a front face-lock. The crowd, which has been good all night, seems reserved here. Some audible “boring” chants as punk hit some legdrops and a modified cross-face. Neck-breaker by Punk for two. Punk then applied a headscissors. Crowd got behind Batista as he powered out. Punk went after Batista using his educated feet. Knee to the face and bulldog for two by CM. Punk came off the top onto Batista, but Dave caught him and put him down with a spinebuster. Punk got his feet up on a corner clothesline, but missed a cross-body. Spear by Batista, then he did his rope-shaking thing. JBL came down though and attacked Batista, drawing a DQ. He knocked Punk out of the ring and Cena came out to fight JBL. JBL ducked a Cena punch, which ended up connecting with Batista. Batista took exception attacked Cena. They brawled as refs came out to separate them.

Winner: No Contest, at 9:00.

Hmm...Punk, Batista, Kane, JBL, and Cena all getting their feuds intermingled? If I didn't know better, I'd swear they're planning an Elimination Chamber for Summerslam.

Come on, THINK. Who else has engaged in physicality with at least two of the above men? You know the answer.

Decent Raw; nice to see D'Lo back in action.

I really liked the Phoenix/Santino bits today. I really don't know why.

The best way for Cade to push the "I used to worship Shawn" angle would be to integrate "SEXY BOY" into his theme music. An amalgam like Rated RKO's theme would probably work quite well, even though Cade's present theme sounds terribly generic.

CM Punk is a decent champion: I like how he checked up on Batista after being assaulted by Kane, seeing if he still wanted to have the match. I hope he keeps the title for a long time.

Jericho scores again with another blockbuster segment.

D'Lo Brown on my television screen is a good thing. A very, very good thing. His music is just what we all need in this topsy-turvy post-911 world we live in. It's been too long!

Standing switch leading to LOVE between Santino and the Glamazon is cool.

How long before CM Punk gets to give Batista or KANE the GTS on RAW?? I think their match tonight might have been even better than their GAB match. Good stuff, hopefully we'll see a non-interrupted CM Punk titles defense soon.

Aw. I was hoping the main event would end with Regal turning out the lights and announcing his return.

Remember way back earlier today when I said, no way will they do another Elimination Chamber six months after they did two of them? Uh.

I guess Jericho could be the fifth guy if Michaels stays out selling his eye, but I would guess they're wrestling each other. Maybe Rey Mysterio. Perhaps they're finally going to go all the way with Deuce.

I marked out like crazy when DLo's music hit.

And Beth/Santino was wonderfully awkward, with the fighting for waistlocks and staring and mutual arm stroking and kissing...

I really wish Punk would get a clean win for once, but at least they appear to be going somewhere with it.

Please no Lawler/DiBiase or Rhodes match. Nobody ever ends up getting the rub or looking strong against him, which is ridiculous.

Crowd was pretty great this week. London, Kelly, D-lo all got chants.

Top Performer(s) this week:
-Beth Phoenix. This girl is money. Shes like a beautiful Chyna. The crowd loved the kiss too.

-Chris Jericho. Promo. Nuff said.

Santino and Phoenix is the most wonderful couple since the tentative courtship between Mark Henry and Chyna.

Punk, Cena, Batista, JBL, Kane...well, they are advertising Rey for Summerslam in the commercial. Perhaps he jumps in, pointing out that he held that belt before and wants it back. No chance of Orton returning by Summerslam is there?

I liked that they had Punk clear the ring of Kane. Its small things like that...they go a long way to building a guy up.

Well, if they're going to sell HBK's injuries for a certain amount of time, why not put Jericho in there? He's on a hot streak, he definitely deserves to be in the ME at Summerslam.

Good to see D-Lo back, though I agree, seeing him without his chest protector was a bit weird. Or maybe it's just that he is a little skinnier like my manager pointed out to me.

The Duggan/Lawler vs. Rhodes/Dibiase interview was pretty good. Not that I want to see Duggan/ Lawler wrestle for the tag titles, but they brought the goods, promo-wise. And the king can still slap the taste out of you hard; Cody took that slap like a MAN.

Man, I like Kelly Kelly, but she needs to get rid of the Monica Seles-like screaming she does with every single move. Otherwise, a decent match with her and Beth Phoenix and a nice double reversal finish.

Speaking of Beth, she and Santino would make a good couple. The kiss was cute, if a tad awkard.

Punk/ Batista was really good until the the stupid finish. I know they have to keep both men looking strong, but isn't there any way to do it with a clean ending to their matches?

The only downside for a otherwise solid RAW tonight was whenever JBL was on TV. He obiviously can't wrestle anymore like he used to thanks to his sore back and even his promo skills are becoming really weak and difficult to listen to these days. The WWE needs to let him re-retire and go back to the announcers table, maybe replacing Adamle at ECW or something.

RAW is interesting as hell lately. I dig it.

I love Beth Phoenix. I did not expect the angle to go that way tonight.

GREAT to see D-Lo back. His entrance pop was really disappointing but the crowd got behind him during the match.

Cade/HBK at Summerslam with Jericho in the EC works for me. Otherwise, looks like my prediction of London/HBK vs Jericho/Cade at Summerslam may be coming true.

Burchill vs Kofi.. what a bizarre IC title feud. I love it.

The main event scene is so chaotic and I highly expect an EC at Summerslam now, just because there's five guys right now and Kane would be the odd guy out in a double main event of Punk/JBL (which could not carry a major PPV) and Cena/Batista.

My memory isn't the best in the world, but didn't the last 6-man HitC end with Rikishi taking a bump into a truck full of hay? If so, then yes, it's out of the question.

Great promo by Jericho, maybe the best of year. And as long as I am hanging out awards, just give Feud of the Year to HBK-Jericho. I wonder if they will finally use the HBCade moniker for Cade, which was rumored a few years ago?

Maybe all the run ins at the end doesn't mean the EC, but a big tag at SNME? Let's hope so, because it is a bit soon. Plus they REALLY need to blow off Jericho and Shawn in a HiC, not in EC with 4 other guys, or in a tag match with protegees.

I can't see them doing an Elimination Chamber, because none of the 5 men in the ring in the final segment can really afford to have a clean pin, let alone being the first or second elimination. Hell in a Cell or a Six Pack challenge seems like better long-term booking.

I would say really the only one who needs protecting is Punk out of the possible contestants. Batista and Kane are both giants, and can be immediately brought back to main event level just by being booked strong for a few weeks. Cena is pretty much bulletproof. JBL is not really credible as a long term champ, but his interview skills will always make him a solid antagonist. Hell, throw some cannon fodder in as a sixth man so that you have a first out guy if Rey isn't ready to come back for it. But really, all the guys that could be in such a match are at a place where losing in the EC wouldn't hurt them, except for Punk.

But really, all the guys that could be in such a match are at a place where losing in the EC wouldn't hurt them, except for Punk.

Probably should have fleshed this out on the first post, but I'll do it now:

-Punk, obviously.
-Kane, just started a "monster" push. Can't get beat in his first significant match since he lost it.
-Batista, has spent that past year and a half blowing way more title shots that he's won. Even being in the match and not winning the title will hurt him a bit, but eating a pinfall would be very bad.
-Cena, as Justin said, has eaten pin after pin after pin since his return.
-JBL, de facto #1 heel on Raw. Face it, he's gonna have to main event a couple PPVs in the next 6 months, and he needs all the credibility he can get.

One of them can eat a pin without hurting Raw too bad; having FOUR of these five could really hurt the brand. (Note that the past elimination chambers have had a clearer slotting going into the match where this wasn't as big of a concern.)

I would say really the only one who needs protecting is Punk out of the possible contestants. Batista and Kane are both giants, and can be immediately brought back to main event level just by being booked strong for a few weeks. Cena is pretty much bulletproof. The thing with the EC is that you don't necessarily have to eat clean one on one pins. Take Kane for instance. Apologies if I fall into the realm of fantasy booking, but if Kane were to get caught with a fluke rollup by JBL or Punk while arguing/fighting with Batista, gets up and lays waste to everyone before leaving, think anyone will care that he got pinned?

At this point Cena is like the Rock. He can lose a million billion matches and they can rebuild him immediately. Look at last night. Between Sunday's PPV and last night's Raw is there anyone watching who is thinking "Cena can't beat JBL?" Or are they all thinking "Cena's going to kill him next time he gets a chance"?

JBL, for as big and bad as he is, plays a cowardly whiny heel. As long as anything occurs that he can point to as why he lost that can keep him in the mix. Heck, letting Punk beat him in the EC might even goose their feud one more month, as he can complain that he never gets a clear shot at Punk. After all, he lost once because of Cena and Cryme Tyme, and this time because he was stuck in the EC with all these other guys.

Batista might need a little more careful handling, but I don't think losing in a six person match would hurt him the way another one on one match might. With these sorts of matches I think people tend to rememeber who won (and who took the big bump) more than who lost the match. Besides, if they want to move into a Kane/Batista thing that feud sells itself simply based on the size of the two guys.
