There was an armless, legless child mannequin waiting for me today when I stopped in at work. I hauled the torso upstairs where I placed it into a closet jammed pack with other child mannequin parts. It occurred to me that while my job is pretty weird (Collections at a museum) in general, I'm sure other people on the board have weird moments at work as well.

This isn't a part of my job, necessarily.

Last week, I arrived to find a dead mallard right outside my office door (my office door opens to a courtyard, and 100 feet away is a reflecting pool). There it stayed until 3pm, when someone from animal control finally hauled it away.

Lucky for me, the wind was blowing the other direction.

I work for a lab in the clinical trials division. I remember one study I worked on...there was a conference call that had a 10 minute side-discussion about patients experiencing seriously explosive diarreah. I wanted to take my phone off of mute and say, "seriously explosive diarreah?? Is there any other kind??"

Quite simply viewing the web filter logs of what sites my co-workers have been visiting.

The bottom line is, no matter how normal you think the guy next to you a work is....think again. And try having THAT conversation with your boss when they ask you to get specific on the details.

I'm an English teacher in South Korea. For me, it's looking at the shirts that 10-year old girls come to school wearing from time to time. Last week, the best student in the class wore a red sweatshirt that featured a picture of a monkey in a tub of wax, and all around him were written various things:

"Polish your monkey with monkey wax!"
"Make your monkey happy!"
"It only takes minutes a day!"
"Give him the daily buffing he deserves!"
"Banana monkey!"

Another kid wore a jean jacket with Cookie Monster on it, and under the picture was written, "Cookie Monster is a deeply complicated individual".

I had to clean the air filter for a light projector yesterday, which involved standing on a table and running a dust buster over the outside of the filter housing.
That never came up in my studies.

Heh, strange - that's not my blog, and the jacket was the same as the one in the pic, except it was a jean jacket. Funny that another teacher actually saw the jacket and took a pic of it, though.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. I've been slapped in the face with a bible and have seen more naked people than I ever wanted to. An extremely boring day is a good day.

Someone handed me a homesteading document today that was actually signed by a U.S. President (Chester A. Arthur, the 21st).
