| #1 Posted on 24.1.08 0643.29 Reposted on: 24.1.15 0644.38 | The buildup for the Mike & Mike roast was in full force until the day it happened. Afterwards, not a peep was heard and the roast was never mentioned again. I figured it went badly, but I didn't think it went THIS bad. And Dana Jacobson led the way...
ESPN benches Jacobson for Notre Dame rant
At the roast, Jacobson made a rambling speech that included vulgar references about Notre Dame. Jacobson is a Michigan graduate, and she and Golic, a former Irish defensive lineman, often have exchanged barbs about the rivalry between the schools.
One eyewitness labeled it an "embarrassing display," and a newspaper account said the crowd booed Jacobson. Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis also was in attendance.
It gets more interesting. The comments supposedly included "Fuck Notre Dame" and "Fuck Jesus" (!), which has incited the Catholic League and has them crying out for blood.
I think the punishment's fine and can't be too shocked that ESPN's sweeping the roast under the rug. On an aside, I personally think it's a shame, just because it supposedly ranks about an 8 on the unintentional comedy scale, with Baltimore Ravens' Ed Reed leading the way.
Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed had jokes written for him, but didn't read any. Admitting he was drunk, Reed was pulled off the stage by Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis and former Jets star Joe Klecko. "I didn't realize his middle name was ‘Can't,'" Jeffrey Ross joked.
The moral of the story? If ESPN ever books another roast (fat chance, in light of what's happened), they should book actual comedians.

That's true, but the "fuck jesus" comments are her misspeaking because of how drunk she was. She was saying "Fuck Touchdown Jesus", which obviously relates to hating Notre Dame. And no way should ESPN worry about what the Catholic League thinks. They'll do anything that will get them publicity, especially when it involves the mighty Disney company. | MisterHenderson

There is still the double standard in this country where we are told we shouldn't say things to offend other religions, the Jews or Muslims for example. But the Catholics? Say whatever you want about them and their beliefs. If they say anything about it, well then "They should just get a sense of humor about it." Right? | odessasteps

| #6 Posted on 24.1.08 1215.31 Reposted on: 24.1.15 1215.31 | It's not really a Catholic issue. Every Christian cares about how Jesus is depicited (though I will agree that some care more than others).
And obviously it's not right to demean any religion. But I just don't know what the Catholic League wants. She already apologized, and has been suspended. Should she be fired over this? ESPN is well within their authority to fire her for saying a stupid thing while drunk, but does that appropriate given the penalties they've given to employees for incidents (sexual harassment, for example)?
And if I felt that the Catholic League actually cared about it rather than them looking for attention, I'd probably care differently as well.

From what multiple places have said, she said "Fuck Notre Dame", "Fuck Touchdown Jesus", and then "Fuck Jesus". AN UNHOLY TRINITY. So it wasn't misspeaking, she separated the two. | thecubsfan
