Be sure you really, really want to see this before you cut and paste this link. It is graphic.

"He could not completely rise to the occasion, he could not relieve the officials of all their tasks; the responsibility for this last failure of his lay with him who had not left him the remnant of strength necessary for the deed. His glance fell on the top story of the house adjoining the quarry. With a flicker as of a light going up, the casements of a window there suddenly flew open; a human figure, faint and insubstantial at that distance and that height, leaned abruptly far forward and stretched both arms still farther. Who was it? A friend? A good man? Someone who sympathized? Someone who wanted to help? Was it one person only? Or was it mankind? Was help at hand? Were there arguments in his favor that had been overlooked? Of course there must be. Logic is doubtless unshakable, but it cannot withstand a man who wants to go on living. Where was the Judge whom he had never seen? Where was the High Court, to which he had never penetrated? He raised his hands and spread out all his fingers.

"But the hands of one of the partners were already at K.'s throat, while the other thrust the knife deep into his heart and turned it there twice. With failing eyes K. could still see the two of them immediately before him, cheek leaning against cheek, watching the final act. "Like a dog!" he said; it was as if the shame of it must outlive him."

Kafka wrote these words eighty-six years ago, and they ring as true today as I'm sure they did in 1916. All the progress the world has made, all the technological marvels we have, are meaningless until we confront the darkness that sits in our souls. It would be easy to say that the men who did this were animals ... the scary thing is that they are not.

I'm a little disturbed at myself after sitting down and watching it a couple weeks ago. I came away with a couple thoughts from it.

#1 These guys apparently can't put together a very good video montage.

#2 I was actually... let down by it. I'm disturbed that I was expecting something with more gore and stuff. Here's some footage of a guy getting his head cut off, and I'm sitting here looking at it dissapointed at the lack of actual head choppin' action footage of it, and critiquing the editing job. I didn't flinch, I didn't say anything, I just kind of sat there and stared with this 'that's it?' gaze. That is the most disturbing bit of it for me.

i was with you on point #2....after reading CRZ's warning, i was expecting something more disturbing...

which is more disturbing? I could watch a beheading and not flintch, [or spell properly] or that I was compleatly unphased by the whole video and not really care about Pearl or the demands of his killers?

(Sorry in advance for sounding like your mother.) I think both are pretty disturbing if you ask me. Look, if you guys ever feel that way then it's easy- FORCE yourself to feel disturbed because you know you SHOULD be. Or better yet, don't watch it. I won't, because I know I *never* want to become desensitized to that sort of thing. If you can watch a snuff film and not be extremly bothered by it (like Nicolas Cage in 8MM), no matter how gory it is, then you may want to watch the amount of violent TV and video you take it because it just may be doing you damage.

I started to play it and then thought "Do I REALLY want to see this? What will it do for (or to) me?"

At which point I closed the window.

I'm not going to explain it, it's just one of those things where it's right or it's wrong to publish or watch something like this, and I'm leaning towards wrong on both counts.

Sorry, but I just cannot bring myself to click on that link... knowing what the is contained therein is enough for me.

It is all so sad... and so completely un-fucking-necessary.

I watched it, it was horrible. As bad as it is, they should air it on TV so that we don't get complacent about the threat out there. We need to keep our anger up. Already, 9 months after the attack on WTC we have devolved into bickering idiots again. Everyone should remember the big picture.

like i said...i was expecting more and i was pretty dissapointed, not because Pearl died, but because i was expecting more blood, more gore or something...

i was let down, and TO ME, it's not that graphic...

maybe it's from all those Jason and Freddie movies, but i saw Pearls head get sawed off and my reaction was "That's it? that wasn't worth the warning CRZ gave...that was light-weight..."

that's when i scared myself...
