Just saw this tonight. Very much like the Blair Witch Project, but they show you what the villain is. And it's pretty cool. I wished it had a different ending, but it had a lot of cool effects. I hope that there are some more monster movies like this coming in the future.

One problem was in getting the tickets. I got some free admission passes for Christmas and wanted to uses three of them for my wife and friend, plus myself. The clerk said that this was a "Restricted" movie for the first week of it's release and would require a dollar charge with each gift certificate that I used. I began to question this but decided to just go along since there was a long line behind me waiting. Has anyone heard about this before?

For the first half of the movie it's shown in bits and pieces. Closer to the end you get a good shot of it.

I went to see this with a friend today, assuming it wasn't gonna be any good and planning on making fun of it.

Once it was over, we couldn't decide whether we really enjoyed it or whether it really sucked. There were lots of moments that I thought were played out really well, and some others that I had a hard time swallowing (why are they STILL FILMING?).

Comparisons to The Blair Witch Project with regards to the actual look of the film are pretty accurate. I will say, though, that there were a few times when the shakiness of the camera actually made me a bit nauseated.

For some reason, certain movies and video games get me really motion sick. Bow howdy, this was DEFINITELY one of those movies.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the movie, but I was sure glad by the time it ended. Between the insanely jittery camera work and the super gross and creepy mini-monsters and the sickening sounds they made, I was pretty nauseated. There was actually a moment in the movie (right before Marlena exploded) when I thought I might get ill. I loved it! hehe

I didn't catch this myself, but a friend of mine tells me in the ferris wheel scene at the end there's a shot of a meteor hitting earth. And another friend tells me if you bothered digging around the internets for some clues prior to the movie's release (I didn't) you would have learned that the Japanese company that Rob became VP for was somehow responsible for the release of the monster.

Methinks I'm going to have to see this movie again. Next time, I'm sitting further back from the screen.

I totally loved this movie. The Blair Witch comparisons are accurate, but I really wish people would stop talking about THAT aspect. This is one nail biter of a movie. Whenever I see disaster flicks, I always am preoccupied with thinking "what would *I* do?"
This one had me on the edge of my seat. No doubt. The begening was a bit slow, but the back story had to be told, otherwise the whole quest for the girl wouldn't make sense.

Creepy monster, looks NOTHING like the crap leaked on the net. The baby monsters in the subway freaked me out.

Good flick. If you like action, you'll love this one.

The monster was something right out of a Lovecraft story. With the exception of the shaky cam, it was pretty damn good. It reminded me of when I went and saw the second Bourne movie and got a headache.

One thing I'm unclear on, did the girl who got bit turn into that creature behind the curtain or was that something different?

I got the feeling that the girl that got bit just exploded. The way she had been bleeding gave me the impression that her innards were about to become her outards.

I really liked the movie. I liked how it was totally open-ended and you really have no clues at all about where the monster came from or what happened at the end. I haven't checked out the Japanese company responsibility or the rumored meteor, though.

Unfortunately the movie listings gave the duration of the movie. I would have been better off not knowing when it was going to end.

I really enjoyed this movie from start right until the end. I loved the shaky cam because it just felt different and made everything a little more unpredictable.

As we were leaving the movie though there were a lot of complaints about the ending, but as I said I personally really enjoyed it.

Let me admit that I've been following this loosely since the first trailer debuted around Transformers. I hadn't been religously checking out all the ARG backstory elements, but I know about Tagruoto and the Choei station enough to reference them (and most likely spell the names wrong.) It should go without saying, but spoilers abound.

I knew as soon as Rob was all "you filmed over the tape that was in there?!?!" that we'd be cutting back and forth to Coney Island. The whole love-story aspect of it was (predictably) sappy, but well executed for what it was.

On a side-note, if this was found on an SD card, how was Hud able to 'tape over it'? Shouldn't the original file needed to have been deleted?

As for the events of the movie, it felt like most of the good stuff was telegraphed by the trailers. I think Marlena's fate (StingArmy, I got nauseous around that part too) was in one of the trailers, and of course the Statue of Liberty headshot. I did like how the camera focused in on it's eye as it was just laying there. It was like looking at a corpse. I also liked how all the bystanders immediately grabbed their cellphones and started snapping away. That is EXACTLY what would happen in that situation.

As for the monster, I'll have to go looking for some bootleg stills from the movie. Its there in all its glory, but except for a few shots, there's so much motion that you can't really get a good look at it.

I did like how Hud focused the camera on the local newscasts. That was a good way to set up the parasites and also get some 'professional' camerawork into the movie. Speaking of the parasites, I like the turn-the-night-vision-on sequence in the tunnels. The rats running away was a nice touch too.

I have a theory that the creature was there to get Hud. A) He said the parasites were trying to drag him away, rather than attack and bite him. B) The creature turned around for them when they were at Beth's apartment instead of continuing wherever it was going. It even managed to intercept them at the Brooklyn Bridge. C) The creature stared at Hud for a good length of time before lunging at him. That seemed strange. (It was good for the movie though, as it was a nice close up of its.. head?)

I also like how the guy named Hud got to be the cameraman.

I'll have to check into this meteor theory. I also need to find out what the foreign guy that Hud couldn't get around was yapping on about. If you stay past the credits, there's a static-y garbled message.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
Allegedly, it translates out to Rob saying that the creature is still alive.
.

I like how at least one group member survived. If there's ever a sequel, I want this thing coming after her again like Jaws and Roy Scheider.

About it being on a SD card.
I imagine the April footage was artifacts on the card when the camera was found. Hud never mentions seeing that footage.

I believe that unless you format a memory card / hard drive device multiple times there is still some possibility of retrievable data from previous saves that with the right equipment can be extracted.

So maybe when they processed it the April fragments came up.

Then again the whole damage from being buried may have brought on these artifacts.

That Hud theory is very interesting.

What is kinda interesting is that I don't think they gave any date for when the footage was recovered, so the monster still can be alive and another attack filmed.

Just as long as they don't pull a Book of Shadows.

I read online somewhere where JJ Abrams said if there WAS a sequel to this, instead of doing it as another following story, they'd be doing it, showing the attack from another person's perspective on the same night.

I don't know if I like that. On the one hand, we know how the events of the night unfold in general: 'Earthquake', followed by explosions, followed by Statue of Liberty decapitation, followed by all-out-mayhem leading to the Hammerdown on Manhattan. I don't know if I'd want to watch the same movie again. (Although I suppose it could be fun to keep seeing Rob and company in the background at various intersecting points...) The sequel needs to have more answers -- where is it from? What is its relationship with the parasites? Why do the parasites cause people to explode? And so on. I went in to this movie not expecting those sorts of revelations given the premise, but if he's going to continue the franchise, I'd like that information to come from somewhere.

Hey. I liked Book Of Shadows. It wasn't all that bad.

I completely forgot to mention that about a dozen people, along with myself, shouted with glee for the STAR TREK: Under Construction teaser. That ship looked nothing like the original Enterprise, strangely.

Oh i did't find it that bad. I meant changing the whole style of the first film in a series with a way more polished film. The whole "magic" behind Blair Witchw as the found footageness of it. Book of Shadows was overly polished and didn't have the charm of the first one.

(I have to admit the hype of Blair Witch turned me off of seeing it for awhile, so I saw both way after their original releases)

I thought it was done really well. I liked the way it didn't try to answer any questions, it just showed people dealing with what was thrown at them.

there is an interview up at Comingsoon.net with the director. and says a few things about the monster and about if he were to make another.

First that the monster in the film is a Baby. and is looking for its mom when the army attacks him.

and at the sceen on the brige Hud see's a guy with a camera and for a sec there the film each other while looking at each other.

so yea if another one is made it will be another point of view of that night

Heres the link if you want to read it.

Surprisingly enough this didn't make me as dizzy as Blair Witch did.
Really enjoyed this flick. I thought is was a smart idea to have those parasite-spider thingys as a much more immediate and close threat, as you can't have too much interaction with a huge creature other than "run for your lives" kinda of thing.
