The DGA will not be joining the writers in a strike. They've come to a deal with the AMPTP.

IGN: Strike Watch: DGA Makes Deal

January 17, 2008 - The Director's Guild of America has tentatively reached an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers after just six days of talks, a development that could pave the way for a resolution to the on-going writers' strike.

Word of the deal, which we first spotted on Variety, will be of particular interest to the leadership of the Writers Guild of America who will feel some pressure to accept the same terms as the DGA.

I was ready for total chaos to take over with the DGA and WGA both striking, but it's very encouraging to see that the DGA reached a deal so quickly.

Let's hope things with the writers go as smoothly, because this has been a trying few months for all involved.

It's not quite over yet. What the Screen Actors' Guild does in the coming months will have a lot of play at how things turn out with the writers. If SAG follows suit with the directors and plays ball with the AMPTP, the producers will probably win the game of chicken going on right now. However, if SAG can't make a deal with the producers and walks out in solidarity with the writers, all hell will break loose.

Way, way back when this started, I picked April 1 as the resolution date either way - whether the writers make a deal, or whether we pass the point of no return as far as the actors and writers sticking together. The clock's ticking...
