| #1 Posted on 14.1.08 2338.22 Reposted on: 14.1.15 2338.27 | A bickering couple ALWAYS survives. Sometimes it's more than one at the final, and thankfully they don't always win, but there's always a couple that's definitely not going to be one much longer alive in the final episode. It kinda leaves a bad taste in your mouth, because they really shouldn't be there if teamwork is as important as supposed to be on this show.
Jen & Nate were THAT couple this year, and in the hall of fame for being that kind of couple. I don't think we had an episode where they didn't tell each other how much they truly hated each other, only to make up by the finish line. And yet, they survived because they were athletic, didn't run into bad luck (like the brother/sister team) and actually got really good luck at time (like the psuedoGoth's brainfreeze.) The other three teams were about as unlikely finalsts as you'd expect (as Nick pointed out in language I wasn't expecting on CBS) and everything seemed set up for yet another final hoping the evil people lost, rather than rooting for a fun team to win.
With that build, Jen & Nate getting booted was so awesome. It wasn't even a fluke, they lost because Ron & Chris are suddenly a juggernaut (ethically or not) and TK & Rachel and Don & Nick were just flat out better on the leg. Jen & Nate, the bickering couple, lost because they spent too much time bickering. Anyone of the three teams left could win and everyone would be perfectly happy with them.
This show was as good as either of the Sunday NFL games. It was a heck of a day for sports entertainment television. This may be the best final ever and one of the better seasons.
I think TK & Rachel are going to win in the end, though I don't know how much totally misleading clips in the preview for next episode might have biased me. Ron & Chris rolled thru east Asia but I'm always worried that Ron's one tough challenge away from a melt down. Nick & Don have been such a pokey lagging team that they'd be a surprise, but they did make it this far. Promote this thread! | | pieman

I actually jumped out of my chair when Don & Nick stepped on the mat in third place. I also don't remember a final three where I was good with any of them winning. Great season for The Race. | Reverend J Shaft

I agree completely. I was disappointed to see the Goths go home before Nate & Jen but it made up for it this week. I especially liked the tearful conversation in the dark after they lost where they realized they'd completely neglected their relationship to try and win the race. Duh. What do you expect with each of your sexist attitudes?
Correct me if I am wrong (which is often) but wouldn't Don & Nick or Ron & Christina winning be a first for TAR (i.e. parent/child or grandparent/grandchild)? Those were two teams I expected to be out early because of that dynamic (especially with Don hobbled).
(EDIT: I meant parent/child, not parent/sibling.)

Yep. The previous high finish for a parent/child team was Nancy & Emily in season 1, and they finished 5th. | Big Bad

| #5 Posted on 15.1.08 1347.26 Reposted on: 15.1.15 1349.12 | I agree with CubsFan about TK and Rachel being the eventual winners. Chris/Ron were helped immensely by Christina being able to speak Japanese (and, apparently, Mandarin) on the last two legs. This is why if I ever go on the Race, I'm going with my seven-language speaking translator cousin.
Nate/Jen's elimination is the universe's course-correction for when they should've been knocked out two legs ago were it not for the Goths' legendarily stupid non-use of the U-turn. I still can't get over that. I was looking forward to seeing the Goths continue just to see if Vyxsin would continue to get 25% hotter with each leg of the race. It was quite the phenomenon. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
