I don't care who wins, but consider this my attempt to jinx them and at least make the rest of this game interesting. (LSU just got the ball up 31-10 in the third.)

So far, it ain't working. I don't like either team, but LSU is the lesser of two evils.

LSU is the team that actually played a tough schedule and beat great teams this year. That's not to say Ohio State sucked, not by any means. LSU was just quite a bit better.

I'm betting we won't hear from the Big 10 fans who were so quick to tell everyone to shove it after Michigan's win..

LSU is a deserving national champion. There's no shame in having your national champion be a team that had to go to triple-OT in order to be taken down both times, especially in a year where no one was undefeated and only two teams in Division I-A only had one loss - Hawaii, which played no one of note and got destroyed in its only game of consequence, and Kansas, the only other team in the country with a legitimate national championship case.

So congrats to the Tigers on a well-deserved achievement, and a big fat shut-the-F-up in advance to all the apologists.

Wait, if *Kansas* can have a case, can't Georgia and USC? I mean, Kansas didn't win their conference, either, so that would give Georgia just as much right (probably more if LSU's 12-2 > Kansas' 12-1, I'd think UGA's would, too.) USC after seven weeks off is probably as good as LSU (a game I'd like to see - LSU vs. USC, can we get THAT scheduled one year, please?), and they were rated as such earlier this season, and blah, blah, blah...

I'm not saying I don't think LSU is #1, even if I hate how they get about deciding it, but putting Kansas "the only other team with a legitimate national championship case" I just don't understand.

As an Ohio State fan, congratulations to LSU.

They played a great game, and we couldn't stop them on defense. Missed tackles and dumb penalties killed us.

I can only find solace in that we were supposed to suck this year; we weren't supposed to be good until next year.

Oh, and also, 6 of 7 against Michigan.

Congrats to LSU. They played a heckuva game. Like Nuclear Winter, I'll take comfort in a National Championship game appearance in a rebuilding year.

If not for the boneheaded interceptions and the even more boneheaded penalties, this game would have been a lot closer. That said, they happened and LSU took full advantage of them. My hope for next year is that Boeckman learns from the mistakes of this year and fast, what with USC early on the schedule.

(Wow, how thinly veiled can you be?)

I'll still be here telling everyone to shove it. So, OSU is 0-whatever versus the SEC. Like I give a rat's ass. Michigan won its game versus its SEC bowl team and is 5-1 in its last 6 bowls against the SEC. I guess some teams prepared better than others.

Congrats to LSU and Miles. I thought they might be too rattled to come back after Wells' run, but they absolutely DESTROYED Boeckman the rest of the game. It was nice to see Miles make Nick Saban a minor afterthought for LSU fans.

Hey, we're the 2008 Alumni Kickoff Challenge Champions! 1-0 over the SEC!

What pisses my off is not that they lost, but that Tressel got outcoached. By LESS FREAKING MILES. Unlike with Florida last year, LSU was not better than Ohio State. They were competing, but that combo of the dropped TD, then the blocked field goal was too much to overcome, apparently. Also, the last seven minutes of that game was the worst clock management I've seen in some time. AAARGH

Well, there's a difference between being a Big 10 fan and being a Michigan fan. I don't think the intention was that Michigan can't brag about beating Florida or having a good record against the SEC, they should.

But in another thread Michigan and Big 10 fans were bragging that since Michigan beat Florida that it somehow proved they were superior when clearly the Big 10 was nowhere near the SEC and Michigan was the only impressive Big 10 team this bowl season and even they barely won their game.

People can say that the SEC is overrated but after Florida and LSU's defensive dominance against Ohio State the past two years I think it's clear that the SEC's speed on defense is as advertised and better than the other conferences. That's why year in and year out they're one of the top conferences.

No, we weren't saying the Big Ten is superior, just that the Big Ten can play with the SEC. God, this is so old already. I give up. wmatistic, Quezzy, I hope you're happy. I bow before the awesomeness that is the SEC and am ashamed that OSU sullied the field with their presence. Clearly it should have been LSU/Georgia for the National Championship. Hell, why not just make the SEC Championship the National Championship game and make it so much easier?

Wow, I completely missed that thread. Let me know who said the Michigan win meant the Big 10 was better than the SEC and I'll set them straight. (And Michigan barely beating Florida? Fine, Tennessee barely beat Wisconsin then. A win's a win.)

Seriously, the SEC/Big 10 went head-to-head 3 times this bowl season and the SEC won 2 of them (Tennessee over Wisconsin and LSU crushing OSU). As the SEC champ clearly destroyed the Big 10 champ and had a much better bowl record, I'm inclined to agree that the SEC is the better conference top to bottom. However, I don't think the disparity is as great as some people would have us believe. (And I think the Big 12 has as much right to claim that their conference is the strongest.)

NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND.

Georgia's president is calling for a 8 team playoff with the 4 BCS bowls as the quarter-final sites and wants the NCAA to take back control of the I-A post-season.

For the hundredth time none of us said the Big 10 sucks. You're blowing it so far out of proportion it's almost a joke now. The SEC is the strongest conference. We've said it and Big 10 fans have denied it time and time again this year. At least now some are accepting it. It's not putting down the Big 10 or saying they don't have the right to field a team so stop being so ridiculous.

And no I don't think the Big 12 has much of a case.

As for the playoff stuff, really? You really think there's ANY chance of any of that? Cause let me just explain to you how it's a pipe dream. The Pac 10 and Big 10 ain't having it and there is ZERO wiggle room in their mind. Forget about it people. Some of the other conferences are working on stuff that will be shut down within seconds of it being proposed at their meetings. Move along.

I side with the opinion in the above column, which amounts to this: the Big Ten and Pac 10 -- or more specifically, their commissioners -- can go play in traffic. If I hear one more word about how the Rose Bowl, and the bowl system in general, is so sacred and pure, I'm going to throw up.

I can't understand any rationale that, instead of crowning an actual champion the way every other sport does, would rather hold onto a system of meaningless bowls, bad match ups (seriously, I can count on one hand how many of the games this year were any good), and the insanity of 7 & 8 win teams getting to play long past the point that they should. And I say that last point as a Maryland grad who thinks that they shouldn't have been anywhere near a bowl

Yeah, the score was close. But if you include the 14 points Mike Hart personally left on the field...

So speedy, in fact, that Chris Wells broke a [BCS National Title Game record] 65-yard touchdown run against them.

I enjoy how you state so much of this as fact, like no one could have another opinion and your thoughts are irrefutable. I said I thought the SEC was better than the Big 10 THIS year. And don't tell me the Big 12 doesn't have a case. They had a winning bowl record this year and Missouri slaughtered Arkansas, who beat LSU this year. They absolutely have a case.
