Wow, what an incredibly disappointing movie.

All the fan fare it's getting from reviews must be Apathow love, because this movie is about 90% pure crap.

Semi interesting, but goes nowhere. Nowhere at all.

All it has in it's favor is Jenna Fischer and Kristin Wiig. Without them, this movie falls flat.

Haven't seen it yet, and probably won't until it's on cable (young'uns make it very difficult to get out for just any movie), and everything I had read made me think this movie was going to be AWESOME . . . until they did the opening for Monday Night Football the other night. The "song" they did really didn't click for me and had me re-thinking the whole thing. I do have some extra time this week and could probably sneak in a couple of hours to see it, but I'll probably spend it trying to catch up on other things in the mancave instead. Hopefully the rest of you who do get time to see it will actually enjoy it though!

I'm gonna have to disagree with StaggerLee on this one.

I really enjoyed this film. It's a very over-the-top kind of humor / satire, sort of on par with that in Airplane! and other Zucker, Abrams, and Zucker films.

As for it going "nowhere," I thought it had a tremendous story considering it was a spoof film.

Out of context, I could see where the songs could be a bit of a turnoff. But in the context of the film, I thought they were great, and I found myself humming "Walk Hard" on my way out of the theater. There's also a great number called "Let's Duet," with some fun double entendres.

I really liked the cast, too. John C. Reilly was at the very least manageable. Jenna Fischer was great, but the show was stolen by Tim Meadows. A tremendous slew of great cameos, as you might expect.

Like I said, I really, really enjoyed it, and I think it's worth checking out.

I enjoyed it a lot as well. It wasn't the funniest thing every projected, but there were only a couple minutes where it seemed to drag. It's certainly worth a look in the theatre.

And, as a bonus, NBC Thursday was well represented. The Jack McBrayer cameo, brief and unspectacular as it was, made me and my wife's day.

The songs were OKAY, but I just was expecting more I guess. Which surprised me, because I usually like spoofs and satire. But, it just fell flat with me.

Oh, and Tim Meadows was GREAT in his role.

Really funny, if never quite so sublime as its predecessors in Apatow ensemble pieces and Will Ferrell irrational narcissist movies. I LOL'd a LOT.

Genre parodies range from uneven to terrible -- Loaded Weapon 1, uh, was what it was -- since they're always beholden to the source material and whatever absurd departures they take from there. This one succeeds thanks to the those-guys humor sensibility and a stacked cast. It also helps that I thought Ray and Walk the Line were kind of stupid, so it was extra-satisfying to see them lampooned, nationally. Baby baby baby baby baby.

The movie does start to lose momentum after the 1960s (an exciting and important time), but there are still some sizeably-sized laughs to be had in the present day, especially Eddie Vedder's extended metaphor at the Lifetime Achievement Awards.

John C. Reilly is terribly overqualified here and is pretty spectacular. Not every scene carries the same high-end jokerate, but C. Reilly is a great man throughout all and really shows he's a lot more of a comedic force (cf. Dr. Steve Brule) than just a game Will Ferrell surrogate -- manage, as he might, to run around in his underwear.

It's positively jarring to see Jenna Fischer play someone who is so very not Pam. Like C. Reilly, she’s extra-capable and dives into things with great gusto and aplomb, aplomb I say, being a different kind of funny a ways removed from doing droll, deadpan reactions. Dunder-Mifflin, please hold ... my boobs.

Really, the whole cast is jam-packed with ringers from the world of actually funny people. When you can bring in an Ed Helms just to do three funny lines with three funny deliveries and make a funny facial expression, you've got some serious depth. Unfortunately, it's starting to seem like Jonah Hill isn't compelled to be much more than a swearing fatty. But in a minor upset, I think that Justin Long was the best of the Beatles, the four Beatles.

Moreover, this is a gift that keeps on giving: if the movie is merely very good, the soundtrack is a significant achievement, an emphatic capper on a year of tremendous funny songs. The Dewey Cox catalogue is as great-sounding, fully realized, and performed with as much conviction as the A Mighty Wind soundtrack, and funnier at that. The title track is a fucken fierce anthem, and there are numerous other gems to be had.

This includes, on the expanded iTunes edition, no less than NINE songs from Dewey Cox's folk protest period, most of which were barely included in the movie. Two of these are, undoubtedly, the greatest and truest Bob Dylan parodies ever executed, which makes sense considering they were written by Dan Bern of all people, the right man for the job if there ever was one. An "It's Alright Ma" soundalike called "Farmer Glickstein" and a Blonde on Blonde pastiche called "Royal Jelly" are so astounding, so perfect in lyrics and vocal, that Dewey Cox may as well be the seventh Dylan in I'm Not There.

My father, who really has an excellent memory in regards to everything except movies, keeps talking about this hysterical film he saw called Hard Walk starring Nelson C. Reilly.

Although I haven't seen the film to which I think he is referring, the film he says he saw sounds really funny.

There was a whole lot to like about this movie. The scene with the Beatles (the four Beatles) (from Liverpool) was probably one of my favorites.

Oh man, there's so much good stuff that I think I've forgotten a great deal of the better scenes. The montage at the end was fantastic though.

I'm a firm believer in the "favor those who do more with less" rule, and Long did as much with about 1/8 of the dialogue in that scene with the four Beatles as Rudd did with about 1/4 of it.

I saw it and loved it. However, I can see how it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. I am biased, as John C. Reilly, going back to Boogie Knights, can really do no wrong in my eyes. He is one of those guys that makes me want to laugh as soon as he walks on screen.

I read one review that described the movie as an extended SCTV skit, which I agree with. Fortunately SCTV kicked ass (and also featured Harold Ramis!)

That gag with the sinks never got old. This was a veritable all-star team of Chris Guest's team, the Apatow bunch and the Office cast.
