With time already served, if he does the full term, that puts him out in October '09. So, if he's looking at a comeback, at a minimum, he's going to miss all of '07, probably all of '08, and then could maybe come back midseason '09.
More likely, he's going to be trying to comeback after missing 3 full seasons, and that's assuming that the NFL does nothing else to him (which, with Goodell in charge, is not really a given) Promote this thread! | | DrDirt

Figure the NFL would give him at least a year, he's four years away. Maybe the CFL but I doubt it. The saddest thing is that Pacman basically skated in the shooting incident. | TheOldMan

Considering that Vick surrendered three weeks ago, I make it around the 10th of July, 2009 as the earliest. And the last month before then would typically be spent in a halfway house.
The experts are saying that it's likely that any time arising from the state charges will be served concurrent with the Federal time, in effect Virginia prosecutors will work out a plea that lets them save face, but not hinder Vick any further. For what it's worth, I'd guess that the NFL will tack on additional suspension to ensure that Vick's comeback happens in the 2010 season, and in any case it's hard for me to envision that he'd be ready to jump right into a 2009 training camp.
Is it justice? Given what the co-defendants have received, and since Vick was the last to plead out, I'd say it is at least in that respect, yes. And considering the failed drug test, and rumored lack of co-operation with the FBI in developing further cases you might argue he got off somewhat lightly.
Losing a $130 million contract is certainly harsh, but this was less about the actions and more about not dealing with it promptly while the case was developing. | wmatistic

I don't see him getting much of a shot at QB except as a backup. Might be smart to just bulk up a bit in jail and come back as a WR/RB if he can. | Mayhem

A lot of these guys who go in come out stronger then ever because they have workout routines all day because there isn't anything else to do... besides sleeping I guess.
I'm thinking he gets out looking better then ever and ready to jump back in a football game as soon as possible.

He'll never play in the NFL again. Ever. Or at least while Goodell is alive

He needs to have "R" "G" tatooed on his ass cheeks. I'll save the description of how jailhouse romance will spell out "I M R G 's BITCH". Use your imagination

I think there is a good chance he'll play again. Since Tank Johnson and Pac-Man Jones had to come back, why won't Mike Vick be able to? I don't think he'll be able to play QB, though. | It's False

Roddy White, however, gets my vote for Bonehead of the Week with his "Free Mike Vick" T-shirt. Hope he enjoys his fine.

I don't think it's fair to lump Tavaris Jackson into that category of names. He's gotten progressively better over the past month & has the Vikes contending for a wildcard spot. | dMr

| #12 Posted on 11.12.07 0724.43 Reposted on: 11.12.14 0726.17 | Probably goes one of two ways. Either
a. He does his time quietly, offers a full (and heartfelt) mea culpa on his release and is back in the league for 2010 or
b. He carries on with the victim mentality crap that's seen him lying to or holding back information from the feds and ultimately netted him an extra 6 months or so, in which case he becomes a Mike Tyson style freakshow taking short term contracts from anyone who'll have him (Arena League, CFL, TNA....).
Unless he's a complete tool (which we certainly shouldn't rule out) he won't be struggling to put food on the table either way. I never could give much of a crap about him, so I'll root for option B if only for the car crash comedy potential of it.

So as a dog-killing, drug-taking gambler I guess he was always going to be a little screwed ;)

No chance. Arena QBs need to have quick, accurate releases. The ability to scramble isn't required, because there generally isn't time or room to do so.

| #14 Posted on 11.12.07 0927.19 Reposted on: 11.12.14 0927.22 | Vick coming back to the NFL after his sentence is served would be a PR nightmare. He will need to do a whole bunch of work, inside prison and once released, to make people fully accept that he is a changed man. Sorry Vick, your situation does not mirror the more acceptable scenario of a sports superstar beating a spouse.
However if he does comeback, I think that Cleveland should sign him. Roughly every other week the Dawg Pound gets their turn at Vick. Either that or send him to the Raiders (because that's where criminals go). | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
