Contra fans, if you miss the old days of the NES Contra and Super C, this is your game. Picked it up today and haven't put it down. Every aspect of the NES, Super NES, and Sega Genesis Contra games is in this title. The classic weaponry is back and you'll feel a rush of nostalgia holding the Spread Gun once more.
Downside? It's hard. No, I mean it's HARD! Like Ninja Gaiden hard. Devil May Cry hard. You-won't-survive-the-first-level hard. And one of the downsides of going old school is that you ARE stuck with limited lives and continues. Use your last continue and go back to start. No save feature here. There's an Easy Mode and it's good for starting out, but you won't get the whole experience unless you tackle the brutally difficult normal game.
There's a Challenge Mode that comes with completing Easy and it's through this route that you can unlock the old NES Contra and Super C. Complete enough challenges and the emulations are yours. But don't look for two-player support on the unlockables, because there's no way to get a friend in on the action. Boo-urns.
Other than that last minor quibble, this is for every Contra lover out there. This game is total fan service and you'll love every second of it. Pick up this game yesterday!
