There wasn't as much big news this month as there was in August, but the notable news was HUGE!

CONFIRMED CHARACTERS
-Ice Climbers (Confirmed Sept. 14). Consider me shocked. I didn't think the Ice Climbers would be back, but it's good to see their confirmed return.

NEW ITEMS
-Pokémon: Munchlax (Confirmed Sept. 10). The pre-evolved form of Snorlax looks to be one of those troublemaker Pokémon, as it appears to eat any items on the playing field. Notably, this entry also confirmed the return of the Lip's Stick item.
-Assist Trophy: Lyn, from the GBA's Fire Emblem (Confirmed Sept. 11). Lyn appears and slices any foes in her way. Unlike Samurai Goroh, her strikes are carefully calculated.
-HAMMER~! and GOLDEN HAMMER~! (Confirmed Sept. 17). The old-school Hammer from Donkey Kong hits as hard as ever, but also retains its occasional malfunction, in which the head will occasionally fall off. The Golden Hammer is more powerful and swings faster than the original Hammer. Holding down the A Button allows the wielder to float on air to chase anyone trying to cleverly run away. This weapon, however, also has a malfunction. It can occasionally turn into the Golden Squeaky Hammer (as noted in my sig below). Hey, gotta nerf that bad boy somehow, eh?
-Pokémon: Piplup (Confirmed Sept. 20). This is the starter Water-type from Pokémon Diamond/Pearl. He appears and washes away opponents with a Surf attack, giving him the potential to be more annoying (and dangerous) than Marill from Melee.
-Assist Trophy: Mr. Resetti, from Animal Crossing (Confirmed Sept. 26). Mr. Resetti appears to talk your opponents to death. Text will literally keep popping up on screen while Mr. Resetti is present. Judging from the screenshots, though, this can be pretty potent, because the nonstop yakking apparently induces sleep.

NEW STAGES
-Pokémon Stadium 2, from the Pokémon series (Confirmed Sept. 6). It's basically the Stadium from Melee, except now the background can change to Ground (mountainous), Ice (creating slippery conditions), Flying (with windmills), and Electric (no screenshot, but sounds dangerous). Pokémon will watch from the background, but it remains to be seen whether they will interject themselves, like in the original N64 Smash Bros.
-Battleship Halberd, from the Kirby series (Confirmed Sept. 12). The Great Fox, this ain't. Fighters engage in combat aboard Metaknight's aircraft. While fighting on the deck, a double-barreled battery appears in the background and can either blast you or swing at you with its arm.

FINAL SMASH!
-Diddy Kong's rocket barrels go full blast while he dual-wields peanut popguns that shoot exploding nuts. The rocket barrels explode at the attack's conclusion and leave consumable peanuts throughout the playing field.
-The Pokémon Trainer calls upon all three Pokémon for one huge attack. Charizard attacks with Fire Blast, Ivysaur attacks with Solarbeam, and Squirtle attacks with Hydro Pump. Pokémon text will also pop up at the bottom of the screen with the words "It's Super Effective" to add authenticity. Very neat.

SINGLE-PLAYER
-Think they aren't serious about a single-player campaign this year? Brawl will feature a whole new slew of grunt enemies! How does THIS look?

(image removed)

Oh yeah! Bring it on!

GAME MODES
-Like Giant Melee? Like Sudden Death Melee? How about Invisible Melee? Ever wished you could combine them all? Well, now you can! The Special Brawl has been revamped to allow players to combine their favorite Melee types. Awesome!
-Tournament Mode is back! Of course, this feature doesn't add much unless you've got a whole bunch of friends.
-And of course, Wi-Fi Play was finally confirmed on Sept. 18! There are plenty of people eager to smash online. Nintendo anticipates this and has even added the Punching Bag from Melee to the lobby area. Now that's cool!

Wow...just wow! This is some great stuff and I'm eager for October's news. But still, no word on Luigi, Ganondorf, or Captain Falcon, which I'm sure will make people sweat just a bit.

I am a sad individual. I go to the website every 3-4 days looking for news, and *I don't even own a Wii*.

If you are at all interested in Smash Bros., you have to watch these clips of Solid Snake receiving "briefings" on his opponents ... hilarious.

Doesn't look like we'll see the game before Christmas.

Just in case you haven't been refreshing the page every other minute, Sonic's just been announced for the game:

I don't mind the delay, especially since with Nintendo it usually means they're fine-tuning and tweaking the game to be near perfect. If this also means being able to compete online *without* having to exchange ridiculously long unique-per-game friend codes, then I am definitely all for the delay.

The delay has been confirmed - Super Smash Bros. Brawl will not be out in North America until February 10. Sucks, but I'd rather have a delay than a broken game.
