Wii North America (September 18, 2007)
- Cosmic Family
- Anubis II
- Fishing Master
- Dewy's Adventure
- MySims
- Mercury Meltdown: Revolution

VC North America (September 17, 2007)
- Yoshi's Story (N64, 1000 points)
- Super Thunder Blade (Genesis, 800 points)
- World Class Baseball (TG16, 600 points)

VC Europe (September 14, 2007)
- Mario's Super Picross (SNES, 900 points)
- Neutopia II (TG16, 600 points)
- Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels (NES, 600 points)

=-=-=
A pile of new releases, but nothing that I really care about. My girlfriend loves Animal Crossing, so maybe she might like MySims. Too bad for her that I won't be buying it.

The VC releases are totally weak. I'd hoped for Mario's Super Picross to makes its way here too, but no such luck.

Dewy's Adventure looks like a pretty fun and cute game, and MySims will probably be a big seller. But man are we getting hosed in the VC this week.

Good lord, I'd KILL to get the Lost Levels in its original form! Why do the Europeans get all the luck?

Meanwhile, we get Yoshi's Story, a game that you'll be done with in half an hour. I'm not kidding. That game is hideously short! If you MUST have your Yoshi fix, I recommend Yoshi's Island 2 for now (assuming you have a DS, of course).

I keep meaning to say that Tuesday was the first time I'd seen Wiis at the Best Buy. Amazingly, I did NOT pick one up on the spot - but I did spend a few minutes thinking about it.

(If I had, it probably would have been a Wii, Wii Play, 2 nunchuks and Mario Party 8. Would that have been about right for our family? That's...about $390 before tax?)

Assuming you go totally MSRP, that would be indeed 390 before sales tax, but that would leave you with an extra nunchuck, as the Wii itself comes with one. So you're only looking at 370 before tax! :D

Pro Tip: Get a membership to Gamefly and there is no shipping charge to buy used games from them. The keep it price is almost always at least $10 lower than MSRP on any game they have.

I picked up Paper Mario for $25 I think? It might have been $35. I was going to pay $50 for it so it was a good deal either way.

Also, Gamefly used games = No sales tax. That's nice for people who don't live in OR.

See, this is why I ask ahead of time. (The Best Buy folks PROBABLY would have hepped me to that since they seem me about once a week anyway, but like I said, better to know ahead of time...)

I reckon it was an aberration and I won't see another Wii for months, so in theory I won't have to struggle with this decision again. ;-)

I see Wiis all over the place here now. But as we've established in past threads, that's certainly not the norm everywhere.

Also, Wii Play sucks!

Also, VC Europe (September 21, 2007)
- Ninja Gaiden -- NES -- 600 points
- Ninja JaJaMaru-kun -- NES -- 600 points
- World Class Baseball -- Turbografx -- 600 points

Gamestops in my area seem to have 3 or so Wiis in stock at any given time.

My GF's roommate got hers from Target two weeks ago. Just walked in and saw a rack of them.

Just out of curiosity, if you buy the game used from them, do they send you the original package?

Yeah, a little neurotic, but I really like having the box with games and DVDs...

Yes, you do. I believe if you "Keep it" you keep the disc that you have, and they mail you the box with the book, etc.

I have so far only purchased games that I have not rented, although I am considering keeping Excite Truck.

Excite Truck is great. Playing your own MP3s instead of the standard background music really makes the game a lot better for me. Strange that I'd enjoy one little detail like that so much, but it really does improve the game a lot.

Yeah I was shocked how much I used that feature on the 360 too. There you can stream your whole music folder from your PC at any time so it makes it super easy and works great.

True enough...but something about the cow racing reduces my family to tears of laughter.

If cow racing isn't your thing. Save the $10, and just buy the controller solo.

Ooh, I'll have to look into that. I'm already tired of the rock riff in the opening of that game.

Here's a gamefly example: Mario Party 8, which runs $50 in the store, has a keep it price of $37.99. If you don't like it, you don't keep it. If you do, that price plus your monthly gamefly membership are a wash for the $49.99 + tax you would pay locally, and then any other games you get during the month are a bonus

I picked up Tony Hawk Project 8 for $19.99 for the PS2 and a few others - but it is way cheaper than I can get these for around here without a good rental store keeping me in used games. I can't afford console gaming at retail rates, but Gamefly keeps me from going broke.

Hey, they have a refer a friend deal If I've sold you on it, PM me and I'd love to get a referral credit.

Not to totally hijack this into a Gamefly ad, but they also give you 5% off every game you decide to buy after you've been a member for three months. Plus, every three months you get a $5 coupon. With my coupon, I just bought Mario Strikers Charged for a mere $31 and change.

Sadly, you can't get rid of that. But for the in-game music, all you do is load some MP3s onto an SD card, stick it in the Wii, and switch the music in the Excite Truck menu. I think you can have it play in order or randomly, and you can select certain songs from the list. I don't have the game in front of me to check, but I know it's easy.

I find that the game is a lot better if it's playing the theme to Smokey & The Bandit while you're racing :)
