Ok, the title warned you but I'll use links anyway. These are pictures taken from the new book. Sure it could be fake, but that's a hell of a con job if it is. These pics are of the last chapter. They don't say what happened, but only what took place many years later and of course it gives a lot away. A whole lot. So if you don't want everything spoiled for you, don't click. Personally I'm very satisfied with this and can't wait to read the whole thing.

EDit: I copied these to a new location, but thought better when I remembered how easy it is to google stuff on this forum. While that probably not a big deal, I'm gonna hold off for now. So check the main link and if you can't get them then PM me and I'll provide a link to the images.

I got them from here:

http://jordanmafia.net/blog/

but I'm betting the don't stay there long.

Edit 2: Ok, so that site lasted about an hour from what I can see. Let's try this guy who also copied the pages:

http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/6200/85393962gn3.jpg

Hopefully those last a little longer

Edit yet again: So now the whole thing has been leaked onto the net in the form of pictures of the book, two pages at a time. Someone has absolutely no life to have done this, but I thank them anyway.

Probably, and hopefully, this thread is not being read by most until they get the book but having read it I kinda wanna get my thoughts down. In other words, as the thread title already said, SPOILERS follow below so look away quickly if you wanna wait.

First, the book started really slowly for me. I was all set to jump into the search for Horcruxes and it was just dragging and dragging with them sitting around, hiding and waiting for what I'm still not sure. They kept debating where to look and I'm like GO LOOK ANYWHERE DAMNIT, JUST STOP DOING NOTHING PLEASE!

The whole Deathly Hallows thing was kinda strange. I mean Dumbledore said yes they really did have power and such or I think so. I'll have to reread the book this weekend. But if they had such power, then how come he was able to beat someone wielding the wand? Is it that Grindelwald stole the wand himself rather than defeating it's previous owner? But then when Dumbledore got it he would not have been master of it either, which meant Draco wouldn't have been, and then Harry would not have been either. Unless the truth is it wasn't an unbeatable wand, just really powerful which makes more sense anyway.

I didn't like that Harry was still doubting Dumbledore at every step. You'd figure by now he'd stop being a dumbass about this stuff.

Really suprised about Lupin and Tonks, especially since they didn't really do much with their deaths. Dobby was actually really well done I thought. Seems like his death was the only one really featured while so many more were glossed over. It was ok, but maybe could have been better.

I liked Snapes story as it was just like I figured, but I was not all that happy with how he died. To the stupid snake, just like that? I guess he figured if he fought back VD would kill him anyway?

I was happy with how she showed VD getting more nervous, lacking a true understanding of things and in the end having it all thrown in his face and still not getting it. Worked for me.

Overall not a perfect book, but I definitely enjoyed it and am thrilled with the outcome. Those who wanted Harry, Ron or Hermione to die were being silly. Give me a happy, nicely tied up ending any day over that kind of junk, especially after seven books and however many years.

oh and why did they drop the whole needing to learn how to cast spells without talking thing? Oh well.

Another thought, I guess in the end Harry and Tom Riddle were related? I mean if Marvolo Gaunt had the ring and was claiming to be an descendant of the three brothers and Harry was as well, having the cloak passed down through this family then they were distant relation of course. Not that it's a big deal in the story, but just something they didn't really mention at the end.

When JK first talked about how book six and book seven were really alike, I wondered. But looking back after reading the book in 10 hours yesterday, she's absolutely right. It was brilliant, as you had some of us feeling a bit sorry for Voldemort, especially after seeing what he went through with his parents and the like. It made Voldemort a more complete character.

In this book, you got to see how Dumbledore grew up, and the mistakes he had. Once again, this may have lessened the rosy view of Dumbledore, but it was vital.

Overall, this book reminded me a bit of The Da Vinci Code. The formula was all about an exciting chase and escape followed by lots of talking, and then back to the next location for another adventure. I rather enjoyed it though, as I had had enough of the "let's see how Harry's doing in Charms class." That gave this book the advantage over books six and three especially. I don't know that this book will overtake books 5 and 4 in my list of favorite HP books.

Like Wmatistic, the death that was the most emotional and most well done was the death of Dobby. In fact, I was misty-eyed at that point than at any other part of the book. Dobby had done so much for Harry, and his rescue of them from Malfoy Manor made for one of the most fun chapters in the book.

I have one really stupid question though, and the one other person at work that had read the book in one day like I did didn't really have the answer either. What is the meaning of the cover art for this book. As far as I remember, there was never any Voldemort/Harry battle in a place with columns of marble. They only fought in Hogwarts and in the Forest. I guess that could be Hogwarts, but I'm not sure. Can anyone fill me in?

Finally, I also cheer the happy ending of the book. This series may have moved from being a "kid's book," but that doesn't mean you don't have a happy ending. I thought JK wouldn't let Harry die, and I was delighted to see that my boy Neville was also spared. In fact, he was the only other person identified in the epilogue other than the Trio and Malfoy (and Remus and Tonks' kid). He may not have gotten Bellatrix (that was hilariously and awesomely handled by Mrs. Weasley), but he really grew up, along with Luna.

Few complaints, here they are:

  • You have this amazingly vivid imagery of Hagrid falling to his death and then you see his body and the gravitas of the danger right off the bat really gets your pulse pounding and sucks you into the book.

Then it turns out Hagrid's ok, and Mad-Eye dies off camera.

    Zuh?
  • 569 Neville free pages. And I'm not told so I'm forced to assume he's hooked up with Luna.
  • A lot of interesting stuff (the wedding busted up, the previously mentioned death of Moody, Lupin/Tonks biting it, hot Kingsley on Death Eater action, etc..) happens off camera... so to speak

And that's it. Other than that it was a hell of a read. For instance:

Neville fighting on while everyone else mourns. And going fucking Highlander on that snake. I cheered out loud. Very loudly. I'm a dork.
  • Every death hurts. Dobby's, Fred's, and Snape's really stung me because J.K. really made me care about all of them. No one (poor Hedwig) goes without millions of fans mourning them. Except Crabbe. Then again, so many people followed this story that his mourners may in fact exist.
  • Wormtail's redemption and comeuppance all in 3 minutes. No loose threads here.
  • There are a lot of scenes where you see "Harry tells Ron/Hermione/someone else what just happened" and I mean a lot. Which some may find repetitive but I'd like to point out that if anybody, anybody at all, did this on Lost they'd be off the God Damn island. Characters throwing little FYIs to each other is awesome in my book.
  • Snape being the best double agent of all time.

Harry naming his son's middle name Severus.

Snape loving Lily his whole life choked me up. Then passing on Dumbledore's death sentence for Harry to give him a choice. Seriously, I think there's something in my eye.
  • Every fight scene in the book. Helm's Deep 2: Hogwarts kicked ass.
  • That epilogue.
  • Voldemort's complete non-redemption.

So before this turns into a never ending list I just have to say what a great ending for a great (if sometimes flawed) narrative. Totally worth waking up early on a Saturday to buy.

Doctor Who's early review was spot on!

I was a little surprised while reading it how straightforward this book was. Start to finish it followed Harry and any digressions were key to the whole story at that point in time, so there was never any frustration about skipping out on the exciting parts for the non-exciting parts as in previous books; Rowling obviously knew she didn't need to manufacture any additional suspense or tension, she had 6 books worth to sort out as it was.

I was also rather pleasantly surprised that she didn't try to pull any really overt surprises or twists. Makes me think she really did follow the plan she'd allegedly laid out a decade ago rather than caving at all to the the throng. Harry was, indeed, a horcrux, and that makes reasonable enough sense and fits the story quite nicely, thanks.

The additional humanization of Dumbledore and Snape were key for me and, I though, beautifully done. And not only was Voldemort unredeemed, he was shown to be essentially impotent despite his great power (mmmparadoxicalmmm). And all without sugary, sappy appeals to "love".

My thoughts echo those of others, with two exceptions:

-I lost track of Horucruxes, and it seemed like before Nagini died that there would still be 2-3 left. Looking at Wiki, that's clearly my fault and not the book's, but for some reason I could not make them add up to 7 (well, 6, since I wasn't going to guess the Horucrux twist). Anyone else have that problem, or at least keep a running tally?
-So they said that the cloak was THE cloak, which was inpenetrable by all magic. Couldn't Mad Eye Moody's eye see through it? I could have sworn that came up in Goblet.

Here's my take on it...

- I thought the book started off great, really building all the suspense and impending doom awaiting our wizarding trio. That moment, at the end of the wedding when Shacklebolt's patronus shows up and says:
"The ministry has fallen. Scrimgoure is dead. They are coming." was brilliantly suspenseful stuff.

Then we hit the wall...

-When your characters are sitting in a room bitching incessantly about not doing anything, that's probably a hint that it's boring to the reader. I felt like I was reading the The Breakfast club for 200 pages straight. That is not a good feeling. Ron's little temper tantrum (only to come back), Harry's emo, Hermoine's crying...seriously, get this fucking book back to Hogwarts and fast.

-I think the most disappointing thing about the book was that nothing really happened at Hogwarts until the end. And the whole time, while they're off playing Camp Candy, we keep hearing about all the AWESOME STUFF that's happening on the outside world and even Harry's thinking "man, I wish I was at Hogwarts." I wish so too! I think it was a big mistake taking Hogwarts out of the main narrative because Ron, Hermie and Harry by themselves just don't interest me enough for 300 pages.

-Snape's death was pretty pointless and inexcusable. No moment of rebellion? No reconciling with Harry? No "I got your snake, right 'CHERE, bitch!" He was my favorite character and to have him just drop without doing anything important the entire book (on screen so to speak) kinda pissed me off.

-Snape's pensive scene was awesome, but felt really tacked on to the story. I always figured it was something to do with Lily and Snape that made Dumbledore trust him so much and I knew he was a nice guy (just an asshole) deep down.

- Dora and Lupin. Okay, ever watch a movie or read a book and get the impression that something good is happening and building up and building up just so it can be destroyed later on for dramatic effect? That was this. Why build all those plot points if you're just gonna have them die as window-dressing?

- Voldemort being evil and relentless until the very end was great. I thought they might blow it at the end with Harry's "Feel some remorse" nonsense, but fuck that and eat Avada you emo-punk.

- Not enough Neville, I agree. But what there was of Neville was awesome stuff. Should've been him to kill Bellatrix off, but Nagini's head cutting was cool too.

- I liked that they didn't fully redeem the Malfoys and left them in kinda that tweener haze even during the future perfect epilogue. Though a guy naming his kid Scorpius is just asking for trouble

- Mrs. Weasley screaming: "Not my daughter, you bitch!" got my eyes rolling. They do that in the movie, I will laugh my ass off.

-Overall, cut the middle portion out and seam the scenes together a bit better and you have an okay ending to an epic story. I still contend that Goblet was the best, followed by Azkaban and Order.

Edit: The only real deaths that meant anything (to me at least) were Fred's and Dobby's. Fred's death hurt because the Weasley twins were so awesome. Dobby was probably my favorite of the third-tier characters, and his showing up and pissing off the Malfoy's was great stuff. If they cut his fight scene with Kreacher out of the Half Blood Prince, I will be pissed.

And if you want to be technical, there were 8 Horcruxes...the final one being Voldemort himself.

I wasn't happy with these deaths either. With all the other casualties, and the fact that these two just had a kid and Tonks just lost her dad, this just felt unnecessary. We had Lupin actually having an attitude with Harry the whole book, and that was fascinating to me. But then they just both die and I just felt mad.

I liked that Neville didn't kill Bellatrix. At first of course I wanted Neville to get revenge, but even with his transformation from scared kid to secure wizard, I never felt like he was a guy who could kill anyone.

I think JK did a brilliant move, with giving Neville some way to still contribute to the main story (killing Nagini), and also let someone else kill Bella (Mrs. Weasley). And let's not forget that Neville and Luna had really nothing to do in book six. Because of this, I was very happy she let Neville and Luna shine so bright in this seventh book.

Whoo hoo, more Harry Potter coming:

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/19935372/from/ET/

She says she will very likely write an encyclopedia in the future. Stuff like backstory on many characters(mentioned Dean Thomas as having a lot we don't know about him), as well as what happened after the death of VD.

Have to say I'll be almost as excited for this book as I was for book seven itself. Probably be a long wait, but oh well.

Also she reveals that it was Arthur Weasley who she changed her mind and decided against killing off. Can't say it would have bothered me that much. Might have even worked a bit better for when Mrs. Weasley steps up at the end actually.

Funny thought, the two deaths (well of good guys) we got the most direct account of were non-humans. Dobby and Harry's owl. Might be forgetting someone else there of course.

Someone mentioned the cover and I'm not sure, but I wonder if the backdrop is the train station what with the arches there? I think the mentioned arches in previous books at the train station. And VD doens't have a wand in his hand, if I'm remembering right, while Harry does and is reaching for something. Is he trying to catch the Elder Wand there maybe?

Dammit - Arthur Weasley kicking it would have given me another point in the dead pool. I really didn't understand the reasoning behind any of the deaths other than Dobby's. They contributed nothing to the plot or emotion really other than "someone dies."

What was up with the weird baby when Harry's in kind-of-dead-land? And how did the Gryfinndor sword get back in the sorting hat after it got stolen by the Goblin?

The "baby" was the seventh piece of Voldemort's soul that had just been killed. Hence Harry later telling VD that he's seen what's in store for VD if he doesn't show remorse and it's not pretty.

As was said a few times in this book and others, the sword of Godric Gryfinndor will come to the aid of a true Gryfinndor in need. Like when Harry pulled it out of the Sorting Hat in Chamber of Secrets. It wasn't in the hat, it just showed up there by magic because Harry was in need.
