from patrick's blog. looks like no dibble, no keith.

It was great to be back on the radio, refreshing to be back on. It really empowered me to look forward to the next version of the radio show that is on the way. We want to do it even bigger and better. There’s a lot more coming this week…Thursday we have Ray Lewis, Michael Wilbon, John Elway, Peter Gammons, Jerry West and Chi McBride. Then on Friday we wrap it up with Bob Costas, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice together, Ken Griffey Jr., Mark Jackson and the legendary broadcaster….the one and only…Ron Burgandy.

www.danpatrick.com has added a few more videos to the site, some of them are pretty funny. He's also got a daily blog up, but it's too short for my tastes. In his blog he mentions that he's been appearing on Boston's WEEI for the last few mornings. Anybody catch those?

Looks like ESPN Radio is leaning towards Mike Turico as DP's replacement, which is fine with me. He's pretty good so far. They're giving him a different co-host every day this week. His co-host for today (Mon Aug 28) is Dana Jacobson from Cold Pizza/1st Take. She's alright, but I still think they should give it to Linda Cohn. Anyone else catch today's show?

But of course. I could handle Tirico as host. Switching up co-hosts might be a neat thing, as he worked well with Scot Van Pelt, also.

Could anyone other than Tirico bring in Tiger as a guest? It seemed that the two were friendly, beyond just the typical athlete/media relationship.

ESPN The Mag (I think that's where I saw it) stated that Olbermann had an ESPN Radio deal. Was that in reference to his time with DP, or is it something new?

ETA - Frosty - I missed that your DP link was a link. All of that yellow text color threw me off!

Tirico apparently is on for another day. Yesterday, it was Tirico and Van pelt. tomorrow is Tirico and Michelle Tefoya.

I would doubt that Tirico would be a daily replacement, since he does so much PXP, between college and pro football, this time of year.

Last week, they had LeBatard do a couple days, but he was saddled with Kusilias and Michael Kay.

I do expect them to throw in an ESPN talent rather than a radio veteran for the slot.

Odessa, you seem to be close to the pulse of the ESPN world, so I thought I would shoot a question in your general direction. Why does Eric Kuselias have a job? It's a rather broad-spectrum question, but it is a serious one. I understand that he is a member of Mensa, I get that he used to have a show with his brother, but how can they possibly justify giving him money to do what he does? Cowherd gets on a lot of peoples nerves (not mine too much), but at least he uses complete sentences most of the time in his arguments. Kuselias uses a very jarring sentence structure, "That's it. That's all. Idon'tlikehim. He'snogoodforthesport. That's it." that is quite annoying to listen to because it feels, as a listener, that if you disagree with him you are an idiot. And you must be because, after all, he is a member of Mensa. Any ideas?

I wonder if they'll just have rotating hosts in perpetuity - treating it like SportsCenter, where they just grab two names that aren't occupied at that time if it's a big day, and two scrubs if it's the equivalent of the Friday late night broadcast.

Why does Eric Kuselias have a job?

win friends and influence people? He's not very good at his job as radio host and I'm under the impression NASCAR fans think he's awful on that show. I would guess he's more affordable than people with more experience/skill. And they like the polarizing types.

There's not a lot of alternatives in the other off-peak ESPNRadio types.

He is SO terrible that words can't really do it justice. He makes the show unwatchable.

I wonder where the greater amount of hatred is generated:

Kuselias by Nascar fans or Dave O'Brien by futbol fans?

Anybody hear/read any news regarding DP's old time slot? I missed a couple shows this week. Eric Kuselias is on today and he's awful as usual. And am I the only one who hears "America's Silliest" when he says "I'm Eric Kuselias"?

BTW, www.danpatrick.com has a bunch of new videos up, but they're all pretty short and not as good as the first few. The countdown clock on the main page is counting down to 5am ET on September 21. Is he getting a morning drive show somewhere???

I haven't heard anything new. I was e-mailing with the PD at the Milwaukee ESPN, and he says he doesn't know. Considering I've shared a couple of scoops with him, I think he'd have told me (and said to keep it quiet) if he knew.

I wouldn't be surprised if DP preferred to stay in old timeslot.

It's the most compatible to having a real life and it would enable his old station to slide him back in his old slot.

theBigLead says Mike Turico will take over Dan's slot after all, just not all of it. Turico and random co-host of the day will do a two hour show, and the last hour becomes a separate Steven A. Smith show.

I'm fine with Turico, though I expect we'll still get a lot of fill-ins. I have no interest in Steven A., but that's okay since he's already set to be pre-empted locally. I suspect that'll be the case in a lot of locations east of the Mississippi and outside of the Philly/NY area - that's valuable property leading up to their drive time shows in those timezones and they may prefer some thing more local.

Don't have the link handy, but I believe there was a report about at San Diego station planning to go thru some reshuffling to make room for Dan Patrick show. It sounded like the show was going to stay at the same early afternoon slot.

If he's really going to start on Monday, you'd think there'd be more out there about WHERE he'll start. (looking at the website now, it seems to be pointing to next Monday, so maybe there's a little time.)

For those who like Van Pelt, he (from what I've heard) will still be part of the show.

Indeed, that's the direction the Nashville ESPN affiliate (106.7 The Fan) will take, as they announced today that their local afternoon drive time program will be starting an hour earlier (2:00 PM here in the Central time zone). Of course, their web site (1067thefan.com) hasn't yet been updated to reflect that, so I guess with this post the-w can take credit for breaking the news online.

At least initially, the entire show will be carried in the Milwaukee market (even though I've begged the PD to go local for the final hour). I'll be curious (1) how many of DP's former stations pick up his show when it's available, and (2) among those who don't pick up DP's show, how many don't carry the Stephen A. Smith hour.

One of the reasons they will likely carry it all and no local programming is cost. carrying syndicated programming is cheaper. Local radio is heading toward dead and that's a shame.
