Reposted on: 4.6.09 1458.14 | I caught the 4th QTR/OT of the KINGS/Lakers game and I got the quick impression the announcers were Lakers Fans. No shock that Bill Walton is a Lakers fan but I thought Marv was a New York fan. They were bashing the Kings while making the Lakers sound like they are wonderful. I just hope NBC lets their announcers call it both ways for the LA/NJ finals. I also hope ESPN does not hire Bill Walton or Jim Grey for TV commentaries.

Either way, I've always hated them. For the most part, they talk about everything BUT the game at hand. They'll discuss other games currently going on, fan noise, playoff games from seasons past, etc. I cant stand it.
I like the spiffy graphics and listening in on the huddles, but that's about it. When I really cant stand them any longer, I mute the TV and find the game on the radio to hear their play-by-play. | Torchslasher

Other than Bibby(4th QTR/OT) all I heard is how great Horry/Kobe/Shaq. Note to NBC, we know they are good players and you don't have to jam it down our throats every 45 sec.

Aside from Fox, I really don't like any other network's coverage of sports and I think the NBA will take a decent hit by not staying with the hip feeling NBC. Bill Walton, Marv Albert, Ahmad Rashad, Jim Grey, Peter Vescey (sp?), they really embody everything that huge NBA games throughout the past several years have been. I must be in the minority but I love the way Bill Walton and Marv Albert call games. Bill Walton's "give me players" speech as Mike Bibby lit it up and Chris Webber crumbled was one of the most memorable parts of the playoffs for me thus far and I think that all things considered, they do a great job. I don't want Dennis Miller calling my basketball and hopefully the presentation won't take too severe of a hit in the transition although I can easily see it doing so. | Dr Unlikely

Reposted on: 5.6.09 0829.01 | I think Marv Albert is great and if he's not involved with the NBA on TV next year, it'll be a shame. I won't miss Walton in the least, though, I couldn't stand him. I really liked Doug Collins when he was doing the games with Costas for NBC in the Marv In Exile years, even though he looks evil like James Woods. I thought he brought a lot of insight to the games he worked and went out of his way to get Isiah Thomas to bring something to the table, which seemed like a lot of work.
I'll definitely miss the NBA on NBC. The theme (even if it was Tesh), production and set-up brought a lot to the atmosphere as others in the thread have said, whereas the NBA games on TNT always felt a little low key.
I guess Tom Tolbert will have to go back Smallville and continue investigating just what's going on with his close personal friend Clark Kent. | evilwaldo

I wish the WWE would make all it's announce staff listen to Chick call a game to learn how to make the wrestling matches interesting.

Ever seen a Pacers game that he's called? He slams 'em left and right, back and forth, to and fro, over and under, and all around. Bill Walton is notorious among Pacers fans for being a big Pacers hater.
I went to one of the 1999 Eastern Conference Finals games and saw Bill Walton walk around the court to talk to Rik Smits. Several people in the stands yelled You're an asshole, Walton! or something of that nature. |
