WOW.

Flash-forwards. Sneaky move, sis.

So who's dead in the future? I vote Locke.

The last three or four episodes have totally redeemed this show to season 1 levels to me.

My gut instinct right now says Ben.

So many wacky teases of things to come.

I'm just happy Bernard didn't get "red-shirted."

I figured it was a fastforward episode pretty early on, but they did it well enough to keep me debating it the whole time.

The end made me wonder if some of them might have made a deal to get off the island leaving others behind.

It would take some real balls to throw in some future episodes with island flashbacks.

I'm thinking it is either Sawyer, Locke or Ben in the casket.

I came out of my chair cheering and pumping fists in the air when Hurley stormed the beach and haven't had television other than sports do that to me in a looong time. I was way off base with what I thought was going to happen tonight based on the previews (duh) and was totally blown away when Kate stepped out of the shadows.

Awesome.

Gonna be a loooong wait (and I thought the wait for Battlestar after the "One Year Later" thing was bad).

I'll admit that I didn't realize we were flashing forward until Kate emerged from the shadows. I'm also going with Locke, as it would fit with Jack's change of heart about the island (and why Kate would think it would be insane to go to his wedding). Awesome finale.

Edit: So does this mean that now the flashbacks will be the island?

I am thinking it was Ben in the casket, as Kate acted like there was no way she would have gone to the funeral. She must be with Sawyer, if this was "not supposed to happen", as we all know she is "supposed" to be with Jack.

So who are the New Others on the Naomi's boat???

Charlie went out like a hero, but I am still glad he is gone. It looked like he could fit through the window, though!

Count me in the camp as is a born again fan, it is like the 1st season all over again.

I have to admit, the whole spoiler about five people dying TOTALLY had me ready to write off the Sayid and the W&H laywers, so I fell WAY hard for the fake out by Tom.

Its interesting that now that Sawyer's killed Sawyer, its so easy for him to kill again and again. Then again, after watching your friends held at gunpoint, I suppose that's sufficient motivation. Its a shame they killed Tom, as he was fun in his role as 'the nice other' after he took his beard off. Still, avenging Walt's kidnapping was a long time coming.

Jack beat the hell out of Ben... YES! And then Rousseau's casual elbow to Ben during the Jack-Locke showdown was awesome.

So much for Naomi becoming a regular next season. Who are the five people that were supposed to die? I count four: Charlie, Tom, Naomi, and the mystery man in the casket. Mikhail didn't die in the grenade blast, did he? (As if a petty grenade could kill him after all he's been through...)

Did anyone recognize the woman that Jack saved from the car? I'm probably way off, but I thought it looked like Juliet's sister, which would make the kid that Jack saved at age 10 to be the boy that Juliet helped produce three years ago, putting the flash-forward about seven years in the future? I did like the nice touch of Nirvana while Jack was in the car. I totally expected him to sacrifice himself at the end of the episode. Instead, we're left waiting for rescue.

I hate to say it, but I have a bad feeling that Ben is right, and the Others ARE the good guys. Its probably going to take the next 16 episodes for everyone to figure that out.

Now THAT is how you go on hiatus for like eight months...

I'm surprised anyone there even questioned the Sawyer shooting. At this stage in the game they should realize what they need to do.

And is the freighter part of the Dharma return?

Agreed. I kinda wish he and Mikhail had switched roles so Mikhail died and Tom survived (even though Mikhail survived by being EVIL~! and he would never have not shot the three on the beach).

I thought maybe the "five dead" was to throw us off so we WOULD believe that Sayid, Jin and Bernard had died. I know I did, mainly because I was looking for five deaths.

Right with ya'. I freaked out when the Hurley Battle Van busted through the camp, too. I was thumping my couch and hollering "go, Hurley! Get'em!". I even cheered when Sayid took out the other guy.

It's funny, because when all the survivors started packing up and hiking away in a hurry, I thought: "gee, now would be a nice time to use Hurley's van." But I explained to myself that the van had run out of gas after its one episode and was therefore, useless.

Halfway through, I began to think that Desmond (and Penny) were part of Naomi's "bad ship". Penny's transmission at the end killed that theory and made me happy. I like Desmond and felt a big relief that he wasn't a heel or a spy. So there are two groups of people looking for the island? Neato.

When Ben ordered Mikhail to go to the Looking Glass station, I got a "don't go to town, Tonto" vibe. You just knew Mikhail was gonna' get messed up, again. Good thing he heals fast, 'cuz it's fun to watch him get pummelled. He's the Others' version of Kenny.

Even with the spoliers, I was still surprised and enjoyed the heck out of this episode. Next season, I still think the gist of the show will take place on the island, with the flash-forwards taking the same amount of time as the flashbacks. If they're really doing exactly six seasons, this midway switch plays into the show's gimmick of splitting things in half, or the black and white theme. First 3 seasons have flashbacks, last 3 have flash-forwards.

Add me in to the list of people who cheered out loud when Hurley came to the rescue in the van. Also a "yeeeeeeeaaaah" when Sayid snapped that guys neck.

Lines of the night:

Sawyer to Juliet: "So you screwing Jack yet?"

Rousseau to Alex: "So...you want to help me tie him up?"

I do think that freighter is filled with Dharma people itching to make a return to the island. If it's the shows writers plan, it's going to be really tough making Ben's group end up being the "good guys" after all the killing, attempted killing and kidnapping they have done.

I didn't like how they did Charlies death at all. Looked like he could have:

#1. Just ran out of that room and sealed the door behind him. Even if he wouldn't be able to seal the door due to the incoming water, it wasn't coming in that fast that Desmond and him couldn't have easily grabbed a scuba tank and swam out of there.

#2. Took a deep breath and swam out the blown out port hole.

Hurley's wild ride, Sayid doing the leg neck-snap and Sawyer cold-bloodingly murdering Tom might've been the best two minutes in LOST's history. It was certainly better than the entire last season of 24. Talk about a great release after seeing the Others torment the Losties for the last three years.

The doctor at Jack's hospital mentioned the car accident victim's name, and it wasn't related to Juliet. That flash-forward was flat-out awesome. I'm wondering how Jack still had a prescription from Christian Shepherd...how far after the rescue was this set? Also, Jack being so rudderless and depressed doesn't bode well for Claire and Aaron in the future -- do they never find out they're related? Surely Juliet knows already.

I've got to stop reading the opening credits. I wish I hadn't known Walt was showing up, or even Penny. I kept counting down the minutes and thinking, 'Hmm, haven't seen Penny yet, she's got to show up sometime.' Puberty really hit Malcolm David Kelley like a ton of bricks, didn't it?

The two sets of spoilers I had read were that a) Jack was going to die and b) Kate, Charlie and Sayid were going to die. I thought that maybe Kate would dive in front of Locke's bullet at the end, but instead, it was a nice callback to the Locke flashback from earlier in the year when he couldn't bring himself to shoot that cop.

LOST can now go literally anything where they want next season. This show is amazing.

My friends that I watch the show with complained briefly when Jack made the first phone call, in his car on the bridge. Apparently (I have no idea about this) that kind of phone didn't exist yet when the plane crash occurred, and they thought it was an accidental anachronism. At the end, of course, it turned out that it was a clue that we were actually watching a flashforward. Clever.

Great finale ...

If it was a flash forward, why did Jack reference his father as if he were still alive?

Because he's going batshit crazy.

This episode was great. Lots of answers and payoffs, and lots of things to wonder about for the future. I really like that we've seen how things end up in the future and now we get to see the space between the two points in time get filled in. It'll help put an end to the feeling of "they're just making this crap up as they go along" that a lot of people had in the past.

Why didn't Charlie try to come out alive when he had a pretty good chance? I think he didn't want to risk changing the future Desmond told him he saw. He sacrificed himself to preserve the helicopter rescue, whether he really had to or not.

I think folks are focusing too much on who was in the casket and too little on Jack's references to his father. Personally, I would guess that was Michael in the casket. The funeral appeared to be in an African American neighborhood, and we know Michael made it off the island already. It would also explain why Kate would be dismissive about going, since Michael had left them all there.

What about the fact that Kate was a wanted fugitive? Is she still in hiding, or did she make amends? Seems like Jack and Kate (and perhaps a few others) cut a deal (maybe with Dharma?) to get themselves off of the island.

Jack's rantings about his father may have been the ramblings of an drug-induced man -- or it may be more significant. We still don't know much about the island's powers. Maybe, properly harnessed, it can bring the dead to life.

I was thinking the car-crash woman was Claire, based off Jack's insistency on performing the surgery & being kept informed of her condition, as well as his nod to the kid. They identified the woman as "Mrs. (something)", which I figured was just a way of hiding her "real" identity. That would also mean the flashforwards took place in 2012, so my theory may be a little off, I dunno.
