| #1 Posted on 22.5.07 2037.30 Reposted on: 22.5.14 2037.57 | I'm trying to arrange to visit my fiancee overseas (Singapore) during June. My schedule is fairly flexible--I want to leave sometime in early June and be back sometime between June 23 and July 1, give or take a day.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get the best deals? Which sites tend to be best, what days of the week tend to have the lowest fares, and anything I might not be thinking of? So far the best roundtrip rates seem to be around $1200 (including taxes). I'd like to do better than that if possible. Thanks for any ideas you might have. Promote this thread! | | redsoxnation

You do have to download their software, but the service is otherwise free to you. They also have a fare watch feature (as do Expedia, Travelocity and most other travel planning sites) so you can keep tabs on airfare, but if you're planning on leaving in early June, that won't work. Unfortunately, you don't have time on your side, which makes it really difficult to get a really good deal.
Another site (farecompare.com) tracks historical flight prices, so that may let you know if you are likely to find a better price, given past prices. Given the short timeframe, $1200 to get to Singapore seems like a really good price to me. But, you never know.
There was a WSJ article about tracking airfare in yesterday's edition. Most of my information came from that article. If you want, I can email it to you.

My wife & I always manage to save a few bucks by choosing departure times at wacky hours of the night or early morning. But we also live very close to LAX, so getting to the airport whenever we want isnt a problem. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
