So I'm back after a couple of months hibernation. The beginning of the cookie era here at Wienerville coincided with my nasty head infection, and I'm just now getting back into posting shape. Weeks of zombie meds will do that to you.
But for anyone who cares, I have a personal achievement that I wish to share.
I'm a writer. I cover animation (with my partner) for the Charleston Gazette and have for over ten years now. I also write about toys for Mastercollector.com, and I've contributed to Non Sport Update (trading cards) for six years.
Like many writers, I've always wanted to get a piece in the New Yorker. I mean, I do this for the fun and money of it, but a prestigious shot like that, and maybe a Pulitzer would rank among the niftier extras in my writing career--right up there with the free toys and bootleg Ren and Stimpy videos.
So today, I have come close to my dream. Probably as close as I'll ever get. I have an article in the new issue of Cracked Magazine! I got paid in trading cards, but dammit! this is a magazine that I grew up reading....whenever Mad was sold out.
If anyone cares, you can find my artilce on page six. It's about a new tradiing card set called "Silly Cds" by the guys who did Wacky Packages and Garbage Pail Kids. As a bonus, since I wrote this last year, it was updated and I share the byline with Dick Kulpa, the guy who wrote all those Bat Boy stories for WEEKLY WORLD NEWS. Maybe that Pulitzer isn't too far behind!
I'm just proud as a person who gets published in Cracked can be!
