I've got to go and get some work done that I've been neglecting all day (while watching the WSX Marathon!) so this'll be short.

Best Impact this year, I think. And, I know, lousy criteria and all that, but it was a good show.

Cornette books a 8-man Lethal Lockdown match for Lockdown -- two men enter, one more man enters every two minutes. The two captains are Cage and Angle.

Styles comes out in a neckbrace and crutch -- he wants this thing between he and Rhino to be over. Rhino comes out and says alright -- but it's a trap! Styles isn't injured at all! Christian comes out to help out -- this in turn brings out Joe and Angle (BFF!). Example #1 of why "escape over the top" cage matches are silly -- Cage sees them coming and FLIES over the top in about two seconds. How come that never happens in actual matches?

LAX promo -- Alex Shelley is hanging out with them, bandanna and all -- ha! I hereby dub him "Alexico."

Borash is in the locker room -- Bob Backlund is training, while Sabin is playing "God of War II" and -- as he says -- "pwning newbz." Heh. Nothing actually gets accomplished here.

You know, Backlund doesn't actually know what some of those words he uses mean.

Nash and Dutt are in the ring -- I swear to god I thought Dutt was an actual little person there for a moment. He comes up to Nash's bottom rib, seriously. Anyway, Nash announces that he made some new entrance music for Lethal -- "OHHH YEAHHH" -- and it's a remixed version of "Pomp and Circumstance." Lethal seems unsure but soon breaks into a smile. Awww! Nash is bringing Lethal out of his shell! Tenay and West coo over this touching development.

Jay Lethal vs. Kaz vs. Jerry Lynn: Kaz looks like Antonio Banderas staring in Juggalo: The Movie. Fun X-Div stuff, including a great bit by Kaz where he rolls up Lynn and then, in bridging back for the pin, he grabs Lethal in a Northern Lights. Jay ends up winning with a backbreaker that flows directly into a flatliner -- it's the "Lethal Combo."

Christopher Daniels comes out after the match and beats down all three guys with a baseball bat -- after wearing a Sting mask at the PPV, you've gotta think that he's sending some sort of message, but what does Sting have to do with the X Division?

Borash with Cage and Styles -- AJ is officially the first member of Team Cage. Styles points out he's here because Cage promised him a title shot -- Cage wonders why AJ would bring that up. "That hurts me -- that hurts me in the feelings."

LAX & Alex Shelley vs. Team 3D & Runt: Johnny Rodz is out here with 3D and at one point Hernandez press slams Runt over the top -- over the corner turnbuckle -- and onto Rodz. Really, Runt gets super killed during this match -- taking a Crackerjack and a big splash off the top from Hernandez as well (what, no Gringo Killa? Has it been banned?). Ray spends some time getting his "injured" arm worked over -- nice, they gave Ray some bandages so that he's have an excuse to sell a little yet not "look like a pussy."

Shelley eats the 3D through a table but the ref is distracted by Machete (called such by Tenay, for I believe the first time since his return). Hernandez rolls up Devon for the pin. Weak ending, but a pretty good match.

Serotonin is in the back -- Martyr and Havoc refuse to cane the strapped-up Kaz, so Raven slaps them around. Not sure if that will go anywhere. I can't say I blame the kids -- it's not like Raven has made them winners or anything.

Here's Borash AGAIN -- Eric Young is cleaning the toilets and really wants out of his contract. Borash suggests he call his unnamed friend (early prediction: Jeff Jarrett).

I'm surprised Russo hasn't given Borash a wacky new gimmick. "Hello! My name is Borash! Is nice! Sexy time!" (I guess that would be contingent on JB being able to grow a mustache, so never mind.)

Cage and AJ are in the ring -- the announce Abyss as member #3! Abyss seems unsure -- Sting comes out and feeds him some self-help advice ("Abyss is his own man!"). Cornette comes out and books Cage and AJ vs. Sting and Abyss...for next week!

---------

IN CONCLUSION. In comparison to most of the other New Russo Era shows, this one was pretty streamlined, concise, and not that goofy.

I wonder about that news report we read that said that TNA management had decreed that everyone had to be on every show to justify their pay -- because this show had pretty much the minimum number of guys on it (and Dutt) to keep things moving along. The hyper-chaotic-spastic vibe was way down. I wonder if next week we'll switch off to a completely different group of guys. Like the Tailies? Yeah, like that.

Where's Joe's rematch? Why is Angle the team captain with Joe playing second banana? And boy, they sure selled the brutality of Elevation X, didn't they.

Ok, so all that build-up for Daniels and he comes back to beat up X divisioners? Umm . . . why?

Well, Joe wasn't even on the show, so I'm willing to wait and see what Joe has to say about those subjects. Kayfabe-wise, Kurt Angle is more of a "troop leader" type than Joe is.

Well, again, he hain't said. The Sting stuff leads me to think that he's going to end up feuding with Sting...maybe beating up the Xers is his way of putting his past behind him?

Even if that is the case, the X Division has enough problems right now without it being the exclusive whipping ground of one former champion. Debuting Lethal's new personality, having him win, and then using both him and his opponents to get over someone else who doesn't even need the help is pretty damn counterproductive.

And "team leader" type or no, Angle being named team captain ahead of the guy who unfairly lost to Christian not four nights ago just reinforces the idea that the company is, despite what Cornette says on-air, built around Kurt. There shouldn't even be a Lethal Lockdown match - Joe should be getting his rematch inside a steel cage. Instead, his title win is delayed for who-knows-how-much-longer whilst they fart about with a guy who, on the stength of his abysmal match with Steiner on Sunday, has barely anything lef tin the tank.

I'll say the same thing I said last week. Christian is in the midst of the best World Title reign anybody has had (not saying much I know, but it has been pretty awesome despite everything else going on in the company). Why derail his title reign as soon as possible? Everyone has been complaining about how fast titles change hands in TNA and now they are complaining about a guy holding it for just a couple of months. I think not having a title match is a great way for Christian to hold the title for another month without having him beat Joe again. Save the Christian/Joe rematch for when it's time to end Christian's title reign.

Besides, Christian, Joe, AJ, Angle, and Abyss in the same match? I imagine they'll probably add Sting to counter act Abyss and Rhino to counter act AJ. That can be a hell of a match. Much better than when WWE has these kinds of matches and they try and stick Masters or Carlito or even Orton in there.

I think they can stretch Joe's potential title win until Slammiversary in June ... In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see that main event of the May PPV Joe/Angle vs. Cage/Steiner.

Angle is far and away the biggest star in the company, why would they NOT book him that way? I like Joe, but he is 2nd banana to Kurt.

Just because he had a bad match with Steiner doesn't mean that he is doesn't have much in the tank. Remember, people said the same thing about HHH in 2003 when he put on a few stinkers with Steiner, but he has had numerous great matches since then. A few MW main events come to mind.

I also get a big kick out of Christian as champ. I have no desire to see him lose the title, either. If he is the most entertaining guy on the show, why drop it to Joe after only a few months? Joe is so over, he doesn't really need the belt. You don't have to be champ to be a major part of the show. AJ is a good example.

- Yeah, I'm sure that 10 man clusterfuck will be great.
- So, AJ is promised a title shot, Tomko is promised a title shot, and contenders are lining up. Sounds like we're heading to King of the Mountain, another chance for Christian to lose the belt without getting pinned.

All the arguments about Joe not "needing the title" are circular. Does Christian NEED the title? He's been a star for most of the decade.

TNA just needs to end some feuds. I'm all for long builds, but at some points you have to have blowoffs.

HHH hasn't been wrestling with a broken neck for four years, and wasn't fired for various drug-related indiscretions. I wish people would stop treating Angle like he's comparable to any other wrestler on a downturn. He has disappointing matches with Joe, fer cryin' out loud. He's a shell of his former self. And even if he wasn't, he's got a laundry list of injuries and age against him. He shouldn't be the guy that you build the company around, and he shouldn't be the standard bearer at a time when TNA is trying to make a name for itself. Neither should Christian, for that matter. Joe's the company's franchise, the number one homegrown star. He should have won the belt MONTHS ago, and every time they delay it, or job him out, they damage that juggernaut era. How is he supposed to ever become a "big star" if he's always portrayed as a "second banana"?

And Joe's still incredibly over? Where? In the Impact Zone? Come on.

I couldn't agree with Quezzy more on this one.

Christian is having a good run. Samoa Joe should win the rematch but I do hope the rematch is a little way off.

The wargames match should be quite fun.

You know this because...what? You can see the future? AJ and Rhino have great chemistry together. AJ and Abyss have great chemsitry together. Sting and Abyss have great chemistry together. AJ, Joe, and Christian are great performers. Angle is one of the best wrestlers today. What's not to like? It's obvious you're just hating on TNA. If you don't think a match with that many plusses can be good then you might as well assume that nothing in any wrestling promotion will ever be good again and just stop watch wrestling.

Christian promising other people title shots is a great idea. It shows that Christian will do anything to win. It gives guys like AJ a reason to team up with him. It will be an easy way to eventually show dissention and I don't know why you assume it will a King of the Mountain match where Christian loses the title (other than being a TNA hater). I think Christian will prolong the title shots as long as possible then Joe will finally beat him and Joe will already have a couple of contenders lined up. Makes sense to me.

You just answered your own question. Christian has been a star for a decade. He doesn't need the title, the title needs him. Having a WWE star with the title will get people's attention. It will mean a lot more if Joe beats someone who has had a really good title reign and is a WWE star.

Christian also needed the belt because he had the stench of jobber to the stars when he came to TNA. Now, he hasn't been pinned for over a year, and has had two title runs. He seems much more like a star now then when he arrived.

I suppose it is debatable if the Angle-Joe series was good or not. Myself, I liked it. It would have been impossible to live up to the hype, but I still thought they were very good matches, especially the 1st one. Short, sweet, and stiff.

And didn't Kurt have 4 star matches with Undertaker (!) and RVD within the last year or so? If people didn't like Angle-Joe, maybe they should blame Joe too, not just Kurt. His best matches in TNA have been against Styles and Daniels, undeniably two of the best workers in the world. Maybe he doesn't carry guys as much as he gets carried himself.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Joe. He's great. But he is not the star that Angle, or even Christian is. And during a time when you need to bring in new viewers, those are the guys you should go with. Then, when your audience has grown, and gotten behind Joe, have him go over. It is better than trying build your audience with Jarrett and Nash.

Another thing I hate to say about Joe is that he doesn't seem to be too concerned about his appearance. I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to build my company around a guy with those ever growing man boobs. Don't get me wrong, you don't have to be a roided up, GQ looking metro (Orton), but he just doesn't seem to care. Look at him in 2003 or 2002 and see how much he has ballooned. The face of your company needs to be one that you can at least stand to look at. And he is really letting himself go.

I honestly can't believe some of the justifications being used here. Joe is ugly? Angle and Christian are bigger stars? Is this the same logic that says Hardcore Holly is more important than CM Punk?

If you can't see how much Angle's deteriorated in the past year alone, it's impossible to even discuss the topic with you. The Angle of the past has had good matches with just about anyone he's been paired up against. So far in TNA he's yet to have a truly classic match, even when paired up with the company's hottest worker. His match with Christian was boring and two notches below what we're used to seeing with him. And his match with Steiner wasn't just Scott's fault - Angle barely did anything. And a **** bout with RVD? Wasn't that just Angle bullshitting about his prowess after being fired? I sure as shit don't remember any such match. And even THEN, you're ignoring the fact that, between then and now, Kurt's condition deteriorated so rapidly that a company which saw him as their most legitimate athletic star fired him over it.

I mean, this is some messed-up logic. A midcard WWE wrestler holding a company's world belt is somehow better for the promotion than showcasing your hottest, fastest-rising homegrown star? How does that send out the message that TNA is superior to WWE? And even if we were to go with that justification, you don't put the former over the latter. You keep 'em separate, til you're ready to pull the trigger. Jobbing Joe to Christian is utterly ridiculous, particularly when it looks like they're gonna sit on the payoff or even forego it.

But hey, go ahead. Keep on seeing what you want to see. If it entertains you, then bravo. Just say that - there's no need to pretend that the booking is perfectly acceptable.

Everything stated in my posts are, as they should be, only my opinion. I dig Christian, and many other people did too when WWE dropped the ball with him. I didn't view him as a midcarder, rather as a guy being held back.

I have not seen Angle-Steiner, nor did I have a desire to. But I have seen nearly all of Angle's matches in TNA, and while not quite up to his previous career heights, they have been quite good. If there is an objection to that statement, I urge you to re-read my first sentence of this post.

He may not be the Angle of old, but that doesn't mean you can't use his star power to help build your company. His match with RVD in ECW was very good, and many others mentioned it when discussing the best matches of 2006. So in this case, it is not just my opinion.

If I had to choose, I would pick AJ as the homegrown guy to build around. Get him acting lessons, and help him shed that accent, because I think he is a better worker, and athlete than Joe. And it appears he is also less injury prone. He has a better look too. I don't care if a guy is ugly, but I do care if he is fat and out of shape.

Joe is homegrown? Really? Because I'm willing to wager a lot of money that he made his name in ROH LONG before TNA even considered bringing him in.

I think the distinction is between WWE castoffs and guys who hadn't been on a national stage. As far as Joe being not hot enough to be champion, I dunno, I tend to think he looks like more of a wrestling badass than Christian or the deteriorated Kurt Angle who's started to resemble an angry little troll with disproportionate arms. Though it has been said that his knee injury has prevented him from doing cardio and led to him getting fatter. Still, in a sense being an agile fat dude is an advantage for the very reason that it makes him stand out from everybody else. And I love Christian, but if we're talking about titleholder perceptions, I don't think having the belt on his "starpower" does a lot for the prestige of the title other than putting it on a level at or just below the ECW Championship.

I actually think the Lethal Lockdown match is going to be pretty good. It's not just any cluster....it's WarGames (more or less). There'll be blood, a few crazy spots, some weapons, good times.

On the subject of Samoa Joe, I think TNA needs to pick a specific storyline date when he'll win the title and stick to it. WWE is good at 'forecasting' these kinds of things. When Cena won the US title at Wrestlemania 20, I pencilled him in to win the WWE title at WM21, barring injury. It would help if TNA had built up one of their events as their own WM (maybe Slamiversary) in order to give a guy the extra rub from winning the big show's main event, but hey.

I think a Sting/Daniels feud would be pretty sweet, post-Lockdown. Sting can still go enough that a great worker like Daniels should be able to get a terrific match out of him.
