TONIGHT: The first time all five members involved in the hair vs. hair match at WM will be in the ring at once! Can it live up to the magic of last week’s segment? PLUS: A triple-threat match for the last spot in the MITB match! Flair, Orton and Carlito! On with the show!

-“In memory of Ernie Ladd: 1938-2007.”

-WWE Open.

-Highlights of the Cena and HBK matches from last week.

-Cold open (when was the last RAW open?) LIVE from Washington, DC, and Cena’s music hits. Cena has some strong words for HBK and he wants Michaels in the ring. Michaels is all smiles on his way to the squared circle. He says he won’t win “Good Samaritan of the year” this year. HBK wants to know when Cena will turn on HIM. Ooo, turning the question around. HBK wants the title as much as Cena wants to keep it. The boys are ready to throw down when Coach comes onto the ramp. He says tag teams have been calling all week, wanting a shot at the titles. Three teams, three matches tonight for the champs. Match three, “if you make it,” is in a Steel Cage. Does anyone buy any RAW team’s chances?

-A limo pulls up backstage containing The Donald, who makes his way backstage.

-Later, Flair, Orton and Carlito in a MITB qualifying match!

[break]

-Kelly Hu, Rex Lee (who?), the hosts of “Extra,” Lou Diamond Phillips, Shanna Moakler, and Jason Alexander all talk about Trump’s hair. I wonder why no one wants to mention Vince?

(1) Ric Flair vs. Carlito vs. Randy Orton, MITB Qualifying Match
Elimination rules here. The newfound friends go after Orton to start. Flair is back body dropped after Orton’s failed roll-up on Carlito. Lots of quick pin attempts here. Orton gets worked over in the corner. The faces alternate pin attempts. Flair and Carlito argue before Flair applies the figure four and Carlito turns on Flair before the Nature Boy can apply it. Flair gets RKO’s and pinned at 4:00. Carlito hits the back-cracker for two as we head to break.

[break]

-Orton has a Boston crab on Carlito when we return. Orton with the Garvin stomp on CCC. Orton whips Carlito into the buckle with authority. Rear chinlock for Orton, but Carlito backdrops out of it. Both are back up now, and Carlito lays in some soupbones, but he misses a dropkick. RKO coming up, but Carlito dodges and hits a hurricanrana. Off the ropes, kneelift (what’s the difference between a regular kneelift and a “Million Dollar” kneelift?) and clothesline. Flapjack gets two on Orton. Nice athleticism by Carlito and he hits an enziguiri for two. Bodyslam and moonsault gets two but Carlito is crotched on the ropes. He falls off, and RKO by Orton gets the pin.

Winner: Orton by pinfall at 13:43
Orton shows good enthusiasm after the match.

-Highlights of Smackdown two weeks ago and ECW last week, concerning McMahon and Lashley. I like how they get that WM23 logo in the back of every shot.

-Coming up, the contract signing, and the gauntlet tag match!

[break]

-Chris Masters is in the ring for a Masterlock Challenge. No one comes out. He asks for volunteers from the crowd, but settles on Lillian. Instead of Viscera or Haas, Super Crazy makes the save and is on the attack. Masters locks it in though, and Super Crazy proves he is not Super Strong. There’s gotta be a Masterlock Challenge at WrestleMania.

-Vince’s limo pulls up alongside Trump’s. They should’ve made Trump’s limo longer and have McMahon look at it with envy. Right after I right that, Vince tells Trump’s drive to let the Donald know that his is bigger.

[break]

-We get a nice video package on Ernie Ladd, with comments from Jim Ross, Gerry Brisco and Bruce Pritchard. Wish they did that for everyone who died, but it would probably get pretty exhaustive after a while.

-Orton and Edge are backstage. Edge pontificates about his ladder match prowess, while Orton notes he’s younger and better looker. Hmm, which helps more in the MITB match? Orton was not impressive here.

-Lillian directs us to the Titan-Tron for a PSA. It’s a man talking behind an edition of the LA Times. Sounds like the Rock. By jove, it is! He weighs in on the head-shaving match and says Vince will be the bald one at the end. He reveals that “Umaga,” in Samoan, translates to “shriveled-up monkey penis.” Well, it’s not easy for the crowd to chant. The Rock does his spiel, and boy, he’s still got it.

-Cena is on his way to the ring for the gauntlet, next!

[break]

-Video package of Ashley autographing her Playboy for men with no lives.

(2) Cena and HBK vs. The World’s Greatest Tag Team
First part of the gauntlet is up. Cena and Shelton start things off. Mix-up in the corner, then a suplex gets two on Shelton. Haas is knocked off the apron, which distracts Cena enough for Shelton to get a quad kick. Haas is in, kick to the spine for two. Haas misses a charge and gets face-planted. Cena makes the tag and HBK fires away. Reversal and Michaels goes to the corner, but gets a DDT. Cena tags himself in, locks in the STFU and its over.

Winners: Cena and Michaels at 2:53

(3) Cena and Michaels vs. Murdoch and Cade
Are you kidding me? Murdoch gets a boot on HBK. Cade is in for a chop. Back in is Murdoch. Bodyslam near the ropes and again there appears to be some mis-communication. Flying clothesline and a beauty by Cade, now into a bearhug. HBK pounds out and hits an enziguiri. Both make the tags and Cena is booed upon entrance. Suplex puts Murdoch down, followed by a five-knuckle shuffle. Up for the FU, but HBK superkicks Murdoch off, then Cena gets the pin.

Winners: Cena and Michaels at 3:21

The cage is lowered and the final step of the gauntlet is next!

[break]

(3) Cena and Michaels vs. MNM
When the supposed toughest team doesn’t even get an entrance on TV, you know they won’t win. Michaels is backdropped into the cage as Nitro goes to work with some right hands. He then goes to the blatant choke. Neckbreaker and pin attempt for two. Double-team knees to the gut get the near fall. Nitro misses a corkscrew off the top rope. Tag is in to Mercury but Cena tags as well. Joey goes face first into the cage and is busted open. I don’t like to see that with him, especially with no mask. HBK almost superkicks Mercury off Cena’s shoulders (he had him up for the FU), but Cena drops him and the champs go face-to-face. Superkick into an FU for three ends it.

Winners: Michaels and Cena, about 4:00 shown

Post-match, all the teams attack and are disposed of. Cena thinks about hitting HBK with a chair, but hits Haas instead. Both champions walk away separately, disgusted.

-Contract signing is still to come!

[break]

(4) Jeff Hardy vs. Edge
Edge is out in street clothes. If he wants someone to fight for him, he should find fellow Canadian Chris Jericho’s friend, Gotch Gracie. Edge is in the home of the Redskins (boos!) and he cites the racial slur against Native Americans as the reason for not fighting. He has an Indian friend to fight for him, and it’s Great Khali.

(4) Jeff Hardy vs. Great Khali
Hardy goes to work but gets put down fast. Off the ropes, big (figuratively) boot. Up for a chokeslam, and down. Kane’s pyro hits and the Big Red Monster is out with a hook and chain. Edge high-tails it and so does Khali.

Winner: No contest, about 1:00
Kane tips over the announce table with the hook. Lawler says it’s from his movie.

-Trump is getting his hair done backstage.

[break]

-The Next Hall-of-Famer: Mr. Fuji. I don’t remember his name being on any list. But maybe I missed it.

-Todd Grisham is backstage with Mick Foley. He trumps his new book and also talks about returning to ECW tomorrow night. Ashley interrupts and wants to trade literature with him. Mick doesn’t want to look but Ashley tricks him and he’s impressed. Ron Simmons enters the scene, sees the pics, and you can fill in the blank here.

-We get the tale of the tape for Donald and Vince. McMahon is getting his hair done backstage and he asks the stylus who has better hair. Coach enters to suck up, but McMahon tells him to leave because he reminds him of the Donald. Bald, not successful, I guess.

-Melina vs. Torrie Wilson is next!

[break]

(5) Melina vs. Torrie Wilson
Torrie starts with a wristlock, but Melina kicks out. Bridge by Torrie gets two. Torrie then is whipped into the buckle, dodges Melina and gets a roll-up for two. Melina, ever sneaky, hangs Torrie throat-first on the top rope. Hair pull gets a two-count. Torrie comes back and hammers away. She blocks a hair-toss and gets one of her own. Two clotheslines later, Melina slides out of a suplex, rolls up Wilson and wins the match.

Winner: Melina by pinfall at 2:14
Post-match, Melina continues the beatdown until Mickie James comes out. Victoria, for no reason, comes out to attack. Melina tosses Mickie out and heads to the back but Ashley brings her back in for a further beating, until Melina escapes.

-Vince is walking backstage, but Edge interrupts. He proposes that Rated RKO doesn’t stand for what Lashley did to Vince. He proposes Orton vs. Lashley and if Orton doesn’t show up, he’s out of the MITB match.

[break]

-Next Monday, it’s WrestleMania reversal night. Michaels takes on JBL(!) and Cena faces Chris Benoit.

-Time for the contract-signing. Vince comes to the ring and calls the fans jerks. He says Trump is a fool for signing the contract because its Vince’s world. Vince brings out Umaga and Estrada. It’s 10:57 right now. Vince says Donald has probably left the building. Finally though, Trump’s music plays and he comes out. It would’ve been nice for he and Lashley to enter at the same time. After a “Donald” chant, Trump introduces Lashley. Vince signs the contract first and Trump uses some fuzzy math to say that the celebs want Vince’s head shaven. Glass shatters and Stone Cold comes out (in sneakers). Austin polls the crowd, and they want Vince bald. He sets some ground rules for Trump at WM, while Trump smirks at him. Austin catches Vince smiling at his warnings. Austin asks if Vince has a problem with bald people, and as Vince is deciding, he gets a cold stare from Lashley. Great camera work. Austin promises that someone will be completely bald at WM. Austin leaves and Donald shows a prospective bald Vince. I don’t like them giving away what the guys will look like- that’s the fun of it. Trump calls Vince into the ring. He backs down at first, then enters. Vince turns over a chair and takes his jacket off while poking Donald in the chest. Trump pushes McMahon over the table and a chair. We see the reaction of Vince as Donald leaves, and we’re out at 11:16.

That has to be the most uneventful overrun in recent memory. Still wasn't enough to take away from an otherwise solid show.

The triple threat match was decent, but it was obvious Orton was winning from the moment he was added. What I found unusual was that Carlito felt the need to turn on Flair when he was getting ready to polish off Orton. It's an ELIMINATION match! What did it matter if Flair was about to put Orton away? Was it ever explained why Orton was suddenly added to the qualifying match?

I really like the slow burn between Michaels and Cena. The idea for a Wrestlemania Role Reversal is interesting and it'll provide some good matches for next week. Cena/Benoit should be good stuff, while it'll be interesting to see JBL's first match since his retirement. I hope it's a one-night only affair, since he's been a godsend to the commentary table.

I'm now happy I can call him Hall of Famer Mr. Fuji!

I like that the Rock can suddenly appear out of nowhere, completely unannounced, and still deliver a better promo than half the WWE roster. Simply amazing in more ways than one.

Is this thing with Edge backing out of his matches leading anywhere? Anyway, Jeff Hardy goes down to a 400+ pound opponent for seemingly the third straight week, this time the opponent being Khali. Khali dominates with his awesome moveset: Judo Chop, Big Boot, Tree Slam. Huzzah! Khali and Kane can't lead to anything other than an abysmal match. But seeing Kane come out with the hook was admittedly cool visual.

Great show up until the main event interview. Lashley's got nothing in terms of charisma and they thankfully kept the mic away from him. But I couldn't take much more of Trump and Vince talking about hair and who has more money.

Why wouldn't this have been a good time to get the titles off HBK & Cena and put them on MNM? They could have easily lost the titles here and not looked weak at all. They wouldn't have even had to turn anybody yet. The story would have been that they lost the belts because a) they were in their third match on the night and b) they were more concerned with each other than keeping their attention on the matter at hand.

I really don't understand why they brought back all 3 teams so HBK & Cena could just kick their asses again, this time all at once. It's almost like they are bending over backwards to bury the rest of the tag teams.

This is true, but it was also the most blatant attempt ever to get on the Access Hollywood/Entertainment Tonight/similar shows.

I would have to think it was the Raw before Wrestlemania 20.

It's really jarring to see Rock off steroids looking like a normal human being in the midst of Cena's gross forearms and the rest of the freak show. Boy the Rock is one great man.

It is unusual that Mick has chosen not to acknowledge the devastating betrayal perpetrated on him by his former friend Melina. He should go for Classic Wrestlemania Moments in consecutive years by, that's right, managing Ashley in a huge match for the WWE World Women's Championship.

I hope the Smackdown WM Reversal matches are
- Undertaker vs. Rock & Sock Connection
- Batista vs. Big Bossman

I didn't think much of the show as a whole, but seeing the Rock on my TV again on RAW made my night. I wish they would bring the Rock back as an announcer. After all thsi time off, he still has more talnet on the mic than 99% of the active roster.

I'm pretty sure if they could get Rock back they would. And I wouldn't call churning out movie after movie "time off". Good to see him again, for sure.

The WM Reversal gimmick just won't work with Batista. His pasrt opponents are Foley, The Rock and HHH. Unless they're gonna haul Mick out for a meaningless one-night TV match SmackDown's gonna be reversal-free.

Nah, it's just an excuse to keep him out of matches until Wrestlemania. He's gotta have surgery after the event that I guess will put him on the shelf for a bit. I forget what exactly the surgery is for, but it didn't sound good.

This was an...okay RAW. It wasn't exactly an awful show, but in comparison to previous weeks it was below average. It certainly didn't seem to carry the same momentum going into Wrestlemania that previous shows in the past month-plus have. Considering there's only two more RAWs until Wrestlemania, that's not good, but it's not necessarily disastrous either.

You know, it occurred to me when they were doing the Cena/Michaels gauntlet that hey, RAW actually has a decent tag team division! It's too bad they stick them in segments like this that make them all seem like total geeks. Now, I understand that they're just undercard guys and it was a segment to make the two guys in the main event look strong, but there's a way to have a team like, say, Haas and Benjamin lose convincingly without looking like TOTAL jokes. I find it very frustrating, but then again I'm a total mark for tag team wrestling, so there ya go.

My only other major complaint: JBL's in-ring return was announced as "oh, it's Wrestlemania Reversal next week." No hype, no build, nothing. I kind of saw that and said "...wait, what?" when they immediately cut to the graphic for Benoit and Cena. I may have missed it, but I didn't even hear the announcers mention that it would be JBL's first match since retiring. Very odd.

OTHER THOUGHTS:
- I am so over Foley, and it appears the live crowds are too.
- The Mickie James run-in was a real eye-opener. She's so much more over than Ashley it's ridiculous. I think it's time WWE came to the relization that it's gotten to the point where a woman needs more than the ability to take off her clothes and giggle like an idiot to get over. I hope to God that match at Wrestlemania is kept under four minutes.
- Randy Orton was AWFUL last night. What gets me is reading some of the reactions on other message boards, as if this has never happened before. The guy is totally vanilla, has the charisma of a wet brick, and I'm hard pressed to think of anyone on the RAW roster with some semblance of a push that has less natural athletic ability. He's a decent heel due simply to his natural cockiness, but how some fans can be such marks for him continues to escape me.
- With everything else on RAW being a build to Wrestlemania, why are we still having segments for the Masterlock challenge?

Again, not a bad RAW per se, but certainly disappointing.

Is that final segment over yet?? Man, that was long. And frankly, uneventful. Nice bump by Vince, I suppose.

It did seem like a perfect opportunity to switch the belts to MNM. I guess they thought it was a better opportunity to bury the entire tag division.

Just when you think they are putting MNM back together to get the belts, they are instead basically squashed after their opponents had faced two other teams. Just terrific. R.I.P. Tag division (again).

It seemed like all the "creative" attention as focused on the Trump-Vince angle (yes, I know that is the real main event for WM) and the rest of the show was just throwing crap on the wall.

A jerk says "What?". I believe that is what Vince was trying to say.

Good to see Rock, though. Man he has trimmed down, but still looks to be in great shape. I'm already tired of Austin, though.

I figured that they're building up the challenge again because Masters will do a WrestleMania Masterlock challenge and some big name will come out to pop the crowd and be the first to break the hold. Perhaps a returning Rey Misterio or HHH?

Pretty good, but apparently forgettable since I don't really remember all of the details, even reading gee's recap.

Good to see the Rock again, would love to see him make a cameo at WM, but know it's not gonna happen. Makes me wonder, how long until he's inducted into the HOF?

The HOF announcement of Mr. Fuji caught me completely by surprise, but I was very glad to see him get in. I didn't see much of him as a wrestler, but remember him well during the Yokozuna era.

I hope and hope and hope they add Mickie to the Ashley/Melina match at Mania. I think they could get a little more time out of it, and give one of their more entertaining divas her second Mania appearance. Even if it meant some heat with Ashley, it would be well worth it.

So Carlito and Flair at Mania it's looking like? Works for me.

Batista already faced Taker's two-time Wrestlemania opponent, Kane who he had already beaten numerous times before. For Taker that would leave the following: HHH (injured), Mic Foley, and The Rock. And well Taker has already beaten all those guys numerous times as well and somehow I don't think we are going to see Foley/Taker or Rock/Taker again on Smackdown.

JBL/HBK is interesting though. How is that possible? Did he already get his new special back treatment or did it work? Or is it really not going to be much of an actual match?

I'm looking forward to Benoit/Cena. Benoit wrestling on TV is a rare thing these days. It's a pretty fresh match-up too. Whenever Benoit and Cena wrestled in '03 they were always good matches.

I also want to say I really hated that Ashley/Foley promo last night. And I really don't like Ashley either. And God I hope Grisham doesn't become a regular play by play announcer on one of the main shows anytime soon. That would be terrible.

I think Edge and Orton's heel/heel rivalry is really working. Though it seems to kind of favor Orton, or possibly turning him into a face again. Orton talked his way into the qualifier, but he won both falls pretty much clean. And Edge was being more of a dick/heel by trying to get Orton taken out of Money In The Bank. I really like how desperate Edge is to keep his streak intact.

To go with what Vile1 is saying, it also makes him look that much more heelish as he tries to stay fresh for Mania, while guys like Jeff Hardy are getting the crap beaten out of them on a weekly basis.

Not me, cause I think they blew a *perfect* opportunity to set up Flair and Carlito vs MNM at WM. MNM should have attacked Flair and Carlito during the MitB qualifier, directly leading to Orton winning. Why? Nitro is super-pissed at losing his spot at WM (Mercury is too, but he doesn't talk much about it), so he and Mercury take it out on Flair and Carlito. Why should *they* get a second chance at MitB? It's not even fantasy booking, because the motives were planted so deeply, that it seemed like a foregone conclusion to me.

I'll be disappointed if Donald shows up on my TV again. This may just be the worst publicity stunt slap-in-the-face to wrestling fans. At least Jay Leno and Karl Malone brought a slight sense of humor or something. What the hell is Donald Trump doing on my screen?

On the bright side, The Rock has still got more charisma than nearly everything the WWE has produced since him...May not be too much of a bright side for the WWE though...

Trump's the one desperate publicity grab that's actually, y'know, working. I can't begrudge WWE for using him - any North American wrestling company would kill for that kind of celebrity involvement.

yeah Donald is also a disappointment to me, but what I mean is that the mark side of me will enjoy seeing him get "hurt"

Also... did anyone notice his left eye was like closed shut while Austin spoke to him? Is that like a nervous twitch?
