Sometimes Bobby Knight can be a completely unsympathetic blowhard, but on this occasion he makes a hell of a lot of sense, talking about how forcing talented players to play one year of college basketball is hurting the integrity of the college game, and criticizing referees who work as much as six nights a week.

With the first point, colleges are hurting the academic reputation of their programs by recruiting kids that they know are gonna go to the NBA after their freshman year, even though the short-term gain might be an NCAA championship.

On the latter point, how in the world can a referee fairly and wisely call a game when he's working his sixth night in a row?

Anyone have any thoughts on these points?

Dan Patrick was actually bringing up this topic yesterday on his show, and made a really good point. The one and done college kids are doing some damage to the perennial powerhouses, but it's also paving the way for a lot of the mid-majors to become very competitive, since the recruits they get usually stick around for 3-4 years, and have a good team chemistry.

As far as the referees working 6 nights a row, that does seem very excessive. I am curious how that compares to referees in the NBA as far as workload.

Bobby Knight is one of my favorite coaches in college, and I think it's largely because he's so beyond the norm of the others like Roy, Coach K, Calhoun, etc.
