Also, I'm glad Eddy only gave him one shot. I'd hate for Eddy to get in trouble for doing what he ought to do (put the fan in his place). I could see a fan trying to take legal action on a wrestler in a situation like this, but not taking action against a ref and/or security.
Good article, as usual.

I have a hard time believing though that Canada's gonna get typecast. I believe that ANY arena in North America would have popped for it. It's just how live fans react.
It's a good thing we have free health care though. If security did to that guy what I hope they did - he's gonna need it. Jumping in the ring is one thing - attacking someone is something else. | TheBucsFan

Nope. This week ALL Canadians are Bald Edmonton Oiler jersey wearing hicks. Which is why I'm spending the week getting in touch with my inner pure laine seperatist Quebecois. Pas de Canadiens ici, NO SIR!

Oh! Well THAT is just fine.
I've received two e-mails from folks who attended the event, and both say they were actually cheering Eddy and the security guards for beating up on the guy. So, its definately possible that I misinterpreted their reaction. Still, it seemed like they were cheering the goof, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who interpreted it that way.
One of the e-mails I got from someone at the event said that there was actually ANOTHER guy who was in the same scrum, and who was hauled out along with the bald guy, and apparantly he was "also handled less than gently".
All who have e-mailed me on this issue (so far) have said that they deemed it the act of one guy. That made me feel much better.
And cfgb, it's time like this would wish there could be some kind of law that says if you are injured being incredibly stupid on live international TV, you must pay for your own health care.
Mike Bradley (who was at the event) e-mailed me this, which I thought was an interesting twist:
"I also disagree with the statement:"the suspension of disbelief on the part of the fans, if you will - was utterly destroyed by this moronic act". To me, the incident, the sudden, real violence, just drove home how crazy-dangerous a ladder match is. Yes, it may hurt the chances of the match appearing in future tape compilations, but seeing it live was amazing and, combined with the numerous, partially messed-up spots throughout the match, somehow gave the impression of a more real, grueling, brutal match."
Can't say I completely agree with him, but it's interesting food for thought....
Thanks again everybody for the great feedback! | Jackson

It's not very often someone hops the rail and makes it 3 feet much less all the way into the ring and shoving a ladder. Most of the crowd without the very good seats had to think he was part of the show. And being the good little Hogan loving type marks they are they cheered cause they thought they were supposed to (insert smiley thingie here) | Scar

As for us Canadians being typecast, after Hogan got cheered big time at Wrestle Mania, we were blamed(regardless of the pops he got elsewhere). So it doesn't really matter to me what other people think.

| #15 Posted on 31.5.02 0602.25 Reposted on: 31.5.09 0613.08 | All this shit about 'blame this or that crowd' really annoys me. For instance, if ANY crowd is to blame for Hogan's pop/face return it is that crowd from the show where the nWo first came out. Cleveland was it? Doesn't matter. Blame them. (ofcourse nobody SHOULD be blamed, let's face it, Hogan right now is interesting, for the short while at least, and all went as the WWE hoped it would go)
Also, all that stuff about the WM crowd? How many folks were from the US who traveled to attend the show? I was there, I am from Holland. Blame me too?
Anyways, all that stuff about blame a country for something? Screw that..blame the world for the way we are raised these days! Everybody knows that you are gonna get your ass kicked if you interfere..why even try it? It happened in many towns. This guy just happened to get further in the ring than anywhere else.. (/moonsaults off his soapbox)
Anyways, great article Brew..we all agree with you. feel the love! | J. Kyle
