Fill out a short quiz and it will give you an approximation of how many Earths humanity would need if every human had the same habits as you.

Right now, I'm at 2.8 Earths, but once I'm in grad school and not commuting 20 miles to work everyday, I'll be down to 1.3.

3.7 for me if I count all the travel included with work...2.7 even if I don't count work travel. Damn.

I am at 2.4 earths right now. It seems I spend most of the my earth's resources housing my wife and three kids!

I smell an agenda. It looks like my number would actually go down if I had lots of children taking up space in the apartment, sharing the car with me, eating more food and creating more waste, which doesn't make a whole lotta sense to me.

5.7. On the plus side, that's only like half a Jupiter, so it's all good.

Mine must have come out so low (2.4 earths) because of how old I already am.

This has been a public service posting saving folks like dunk and JJD the time and effort required to make fun of my age.

3.8 earths for me. I didn't think that was too bad for a guy that has a 60 mile round trip commute every day. I'll bet I could push that number way down if they would let me telecommute....

6.9 Earths. But, when in doubt, I may have been tweaking my answers a bit to try and obtain a bigger number. If I were to move several hundred miles south to Mexico City, then I would be at 12.7 Earths. Is it bad that my initial thought was that I should apply for a Mexican work visa (permiso de trabajar)? I love surveys with agendas!

We need four Earths. Three and one half for the women's clothing, and one half for the men's.

Woohoo, 5.8 Earths for me. Of course, that 120 mile round trip commute three times a week probably doesn't help.

I *think* it makes sense to me -- I think that your number going down assumes that, of the total number of people in the world, more of them are sharing your space, rather than taking up their own houses, cars and whatnot.

It's not calculating that your kids are *adding* to the population, but that your kids are already part of the population.

Unless I'm totally misreading your suspicions? I mean, there's pretty clearly an agenda there, anyway.

I totally cheated and gave the answers that they wanted to hear (vegan, no flying or driving, "green" house) and the best I could get was one earth.

My real answers gave me 6.5 earths.

Yeah, if you live in the United States, and have running water and electricity, the lowest you'll be able to get is like 3 acres per person, which really should be like .7 Earths, but they list it as 1 Earths.

My real answers get me 4.9 Earths.

And yeah, CRZ, you should see the FAQ.

Increasing the size of your household means sharing the household's energy consumption among more people, reducing each household member's housing footprint. This is not to say that adding to your family is an effective strategy to reduce energy consumption. Having children necessarily increases society's overall footprint, and can increase individual footprints as well, through decisions made in order to accommodate an expanding household (bigger car, bigger house). Population growth shrinks the amount of the Earth's available resources per person.

6.9 Earths. I guess the 2 of us ought to move to a smaller house in a less wasteful neighborhood and get rid of the gas-guzzling SUV.

4.5 earths for me which isn't bad considering we have no public ransportation and the nearest retil town is 30 miles away. The agenda is pretty obvious but I will remain an omnivore. I will kill to take public transportation to work but it aint happening.

I wish there was a way to cancel some of the questions they ask, for example: the ones concerning vehicle use. It's interesting being asked about fuel consumption (and having a list of options available) when I don't own a car. And no, there's no option stating no car is employed or anything to that effect.
