After the opening kickoff TD return by the Bears' Hester, and Peyton's opening drive interception, the rain looked to be working in the favor of Chicago.

Fast-forward only two minutes, and the Colts were taking the game back bit by bit.

The second quarter was very exciting, I thought, and given the weather, it was still possible for Chicago to come back until the end of the fourth quarter.

Good for Peyton and Dungy! Indy wins 29-17 over Chicago, Peyton finally gets his Superbowl ring, and Dan Marino is likely sulking tonight, wondering what it will take to get his own ring.

I feel worse for Edgerrin James than I do for Grossman. It's possible James will never be in a Superbowl game, let alone win one.

Is Grossman done in Chicago, or is there something left to salvage?

I'm so happy for Tony Dungy. Hes a great guy and a great coach and got a raw deal in Tampa, even if it did end in a Super Bowl win for the Bucs. He deserves this.

I guess Wonderboy gets a good job as well. As much as I love Brady and the Pats, once Manning beat them, I couldn't root against him.

And Rex Grossman sure lived up to the hype.

When Hester hit around the 35 on the opening kickoff, I said it was shades of the National Title Game. Had the Colts been able to convert touchdowns in the red zone, the final would have been much like the National Title Game.
If you had Chicago in the 4 box and the Colts in the 6 box, the first 2 quarters were extremely profitable.
Think an Overwhelming number of people are upset that Dungy didn't kick a field goal at 29-17 and 1:50 to go in the game?
Poor coaching job by Lovie: The Bears had a gift from the gods that they were only down 5 in the 4th quarter despite playing an abysmal game. Grossman couldn't figure out how to master the center/QB exchange. If ever there was a time to pull the plug and go with Griese, that was it. Now, Griese is no world beater, but you knew Grossman wasn't going to win the game.
Any doubt that the 2007 Thursday Night NFL Opener is going to be Patriots at Colts?
Nice that TVLand put on one of my favorite editions of The Andy Griffith Show on during halftime, so there was no chance I would have to watch Prince or listen to Shannon Sharpe.

Again, Grossman didn't have that dismal a game. He did put up a few ducks, but it isn't like the Bears defense was anywhere near as dominant as anybody expected.

Gratz to Peyton.

Grossman made two throws that most average high school QBs wouldnt have made. Cost them any chance at all of a comeback. I was shocked Brian Griese didnt get in the game after Rex threw the flopping ten yard short pass.

Congrats to Manning, now we can quit the "can he ever win it" talk and realize he's one of, if not THE best QB ever.

I can't decide whether to believe that Peyton Manning won the game for Indy or Rex Grossman lost that game for Chicago. Rex may not have single-handedly blown it for the Bears, but his now-trademark "passes you know are INT's before they're even on their way down" passes sure didn't help matters.

Impressive to see how the Colts adjusted throughout the game, and especially how they kept the ball out of the hands of the Chicago offence throughout the second quarter.

Prince absolutely kicked ass at halftime. That stage was fantastic!

One of the best halftime shows the NFL has put on in ages. Prince may not be the first guy you'd think of for a football halftime show, but the dude rocked. Him singing "Best of You" by Foo Fighters was a great moment.

Congrats to Peyton and Dungy, who both can stop answering questions, they've won, and now the media can move on. Oh, and Mike Vanderjagt...How's that taste?

Addai and Rhodes were the true MVPs of the game, IMO, they just slaughtered the Bears with the ground game. I am truly surprised they didn't break a huge gain.

I do feel slightly bad for Urlacher, bein a fellow New Mexico guy, but it's a beautiful thing to see the Bears come up short.

The Bears' lack of rush against the Colts o-line was just inexplicable. They spent all their time being afraid of giving up the big play, and let themselves get eaten up by short passes to Addai, Rhodes or the tight ends, and also let Addai/Rhodes run all over them.

Given the AFC's dominance over the NFC this year, it wasn't hard to see this game as a blowout. The only NFC team that could've made this competitive were the Saints, because their offense isn't held together on wishes and rainbows like Chicago. Rex Grossman is a disaster. He was utterly incapable of keeping a drive going, especially when the Chicago D desperately needed some time to rest in the second half. The Bears need to cut their losses and ditch him in the offseason.

Congrats to long-suffering Indy sports fans, and to everyone on the Colts except Manning (who I still hate). If you thought the 'Brett Favre is a gunslinger' storyline from NFL announcers was overbearing, it'll be a drop in the bucket compared to the 'Manning is the best ever' barrage we'll hear for the next six years.

Why did Prince spend seemingly half of his set playing a Foo Fighters cover?

Well, I was rooting for the Bears, so the result combined with the ugly, boring nature of the game and the overall terrible commercials made for a wasted night for me.

And Peyton being the MVP of the game is, quite frankly, a crock of shit, and everyone should know it. The Colts won the game because of Addai & Rhodes' running (and Addai catching half of Peyton's passes from two yards down the field), and because of the way the defense totally throttled the Bears after they looked like they were gonna run away with it early. Giving it to Peyton based on his performance in this game is a total blowjob by the media and essentially their way of apologizing for all the trashing they did of him over the years for blowing it in pressure situations.

Congratulations, Dungy, you deserved it... but man, let's bring on next season already.

25-of-38 for 250, 1 and 1 isn't exactly mediocre and you can't vote for two runningsbacks or 11 defenders so I don't know if just because there are other cases to be made I'd call it a crock of shit blowjob (erotic).

Yay the Colts. Clearly the formula for NFL success has been cemented: suffer a crushing defeat the year prior and then slump in the subsequent regular season, only to man up because nobody believes you can do dis.

Randy White and Harvey Martin, defensive stalwarts of Dallas's Doomsday defense of the 1970's and co-MVPs of Super Bowl XII, say hi.

Because the Foos have been playing "Darling Nikki" for years now? I thought it was a cool nod to that.

Do they say, "hi, we definitely kicked off a long prosperous era of selecting co-MVPs?" 'Can't' might be the incorrect word but I don't really know the exact selection process. But what I meant was that Addai and Rhodes kind of split the case between themselves which made Manning and his very good numbers in their own right emerge as an easier pick.

Well, OBVIOUSLY the MVP should have gone to Hester, since the Colts did their damnedest not to kick the ball to him after the opening runback for six.

I still can't figure out why Phil Simms is on the A team for CBS. He's just so......dumb.

Prince was fan-freakin'-tastic - if only somebody had brought in some black light (Undertaker) spotlights during halftime!

Amen.

Grossman wasn't terrible... but it should now be very clear that they won't win it all with him in the pocket. McNabb would work well in Chi-Town, but Dave Carr is more likely the guy they'll be looking at. Should make for a hella interesting off-season - since Carr is rumored to want to go to Minnesota.

What stood out like a sore thumb was a 4th quarter replay of a Rex Grossman scramble. Simms was going on about how Grossman was desperately holding onto the ball with both hands because the ball was so slick, he wouldn't want to lose the handle. The problem was, Grossman was CLEARLY holding onto the ball with only one hand. I mean, it was blatantly obvious and there was Simms talking about Grossman clutching the ball with both hands.

Still no worse than the ESPN crew, though.

I watch one sometimes two football games a year. Thanksgiving and Superbowl.

I loved the opening by the Bears. They just couldn't keep up with the Colts. Simple...Bears ran out gas after the first quarter.

I was rooting for the Bears but as one of the annalists said, "After Peyton got in the grove it was all down hill for the Bears." Yep...it was a pretty good Superbowl though.

It's not that Simms is so much dumb for me, but dull. IMO, him and Nantz need to be separated immediately. One dull guy is managable in a booth, but both of these guys are ridiculously boring, and it's just painful to watch any of the games they have to do.
