And let the controversy begin:

East starters LeBron James (CLE), Chris Bosh (TOR), Gilbert Arenas (WAS), Shaquille O'Neal (MIA) and Dwayne Wade (MIA) will be joined by Chauncey Billups (DET), Vince Carter (NJ), Richard Hamilton (DET), Jason Kidd (NJ), Jermaine O'Neal (IND) and first-time selections Caron Butler (WAS) and Dwight Howard (ORL).

Joining the West starters of Kevin Garnett (MIN), Tim Duncan (SA), Tracy McGrady (HOU), Kobe Bryant (LAL) and Yao Ming (HOU) will be Allen Iverson (DEN), Shawn Marion (PHO), Steve Nash (PHO), Dirk Nowitski (DAL), Tony Parker (SA), Amare Stoudamire (PHO) and first-time selection Carlos Boozer (UTA).

Yao will miss the game due to a broken bone under his knee, and Boozer is likely to miss it also because of a hairline fracture in his left leg. David Stern will choose the replacements, and there are those who are already calling on him to make Carmelo Anthony one of the guys.

As for me, eh, I can see both sides. On the one hand he did miss 15 games due to a suspension. But he is the NBA's leading scorer. The X-factor, of course, is Stern: After that ugly fight, will Stern vote Carmelo into the All-Star game? It'll be interesting to see.

At first, I couldn't think of why Carter would get selected by the coaches, but then I took a look at his averages for the year. I gotta say I was surprised how good they are.

IF AI can get selected as a reserve after playing 19 games in the West, surely 'Melo can get in after 28. If not 'Melo, then who?

Call me a homer, but I gotta say that I'm disappointed to not see Joe Johnson's name mentioned anywhere in this discussion.

Actually, don't feel bad, StingArmy: The second link I provided, though it focused on Carmelo Anthony, also listed the Mavericks' Josh Howard, the Bulls' Luol Deng and the Hawks' Joe Johnson as All-Star snubs.

I'll echo the sentiments of Luol Deng getting the snub. I really thought the season he's had, he'd get a shot, but I think next year, if he doesn't get in as a replacement this year, he'll make his all-star game debut.
