Anyone else watch? Holy God.

Literally 100% high spots -- absolutely NO selling whatsoever. Even the ring announcer was like Crank's Jason Statham -- on crank.

The main event was a ten man Battle Royal / ladder match -- everyone who was eliminated either went through a table, into "live electrical wires," or, in the case of one guy, simply blew up. Even that wasn't enough -- there were also thumbtacks!

Fascinating. I can imagine that this may change Professional Wrestling forever: Any match which involves a headlock for even a second will be BORING. Any wrestler who sells for even a moment must be a PUSSY.

If I think it's awful, am I a grumbling old man? If I think it's awesome, am I helping to destroy the very foundation of the sport?

It's different, though, I'll say that much. I'll probably switch to it on Tuesday nights, 'cause "different" is more than ECW has been giving me lately.

Yeah I watched, and other than seeing Teddy Hart for the first time, it wasn't anything to write home about (but I guess it was writing on a message board worthy, since well here it is). His dropkick and moonsault were things of beauty, but other than that, I have no interest in seeing New Jack, X-Pac, Justin Credible, Chris Hamrick, or Vampiro. Did also notice Carlito's ex-bodyguard was on there, and some guy from XPW i believe.

I didn't care much for it one way or the other, though it wasn't "Heroes of Wrestling" bad. It -was- cool seeing Teddy Hart though.

I didn't like the "underground" look they were going for, as it made the show look like it had less of a budget than the local indy fed running shows out of a high school auditorium.

They showed a few short highlights of upcoming shows, and apparently they plan to up the "garbage wrestling" factor, as somebody was getting their head dunked into a piranha tank.

Given that the show is only a half-hour, with a couple minutes going to the "musical guest", this show is going to make Russo's "Crash TV" style look like an iron-man match by comparison.

I watched this show mainly to see Teddy Hart as I have only read about him prior to this. The show felt like it was on fast-forward to me with all the running around. I did get a chuckle when Syxx-Pac was doing his bronco buster move and Zakk Wylde yelled that he did that to his wife every night.

It's the most fun I've had watching wrestling in a long time.

But, the reason I enjoyed it so much was because it's not actually a wrestling show at all. I've become so disenchanted with wrestling as a whole that the last thing I would want to sit through in 2007 is a show from another new wrestling promotion.

WSX is a TV show used to fill a 30 minute MTV slot. They aren't limited by having to worry about making money or having people buy their next PPV, so they can throw everything out there all at once, solely to get viewers to watch. The real beauty is, with it being a TV show, it only runs for a season at a time. There's very little danger of burning viewers out on all the crazy stunts when it's going to be off TV for months between seasons.

According to wikipedia anyway, Credible, Hamrick and New Jack only appear in the first episode, which the MTV people deemed different enough from the actual series that they stuck it on a Friday night when their key demos are assumed to be out at the mall or seeing "Epic Movie".

As for me, my tivo missed it. So then, did I. But it shant make that mistake again.

For what it was, it was perfectly fine. I wouldn't go into this expecting tons of psychology. They aren't about to have Bryan Danielson spending 20 minutes teasing armbars. It's 30 minutes of non-stop, non-psychology, flippy explosion excitement. Basically, something MTV feels will keep the interest of teenagers with the attention-span of a cocaine-addled ferret.

I think if there's any way of getting pro-wrestling over to the MTV audience, this might be it. And if this takes off, I could really see Jack Evans becoming a star.

I enjoyed it for what it was ... cram as many spots into one half hour as humanly possibly. Plus it gave me a chance to catch guys I've only read about but not seen, namely Matt Sydal & Jack Evans ...

Hey, at least it's something different.

I thought it was fun. Obviously very spotastic, but it worked for what it was. It was kind of fun to see Vampiro again, and the battle royal was pretty well done considering that, well, it's a battle royal, and at that a battle royal with Russoistic rules (Um...you can get thrown out at any time, but you can't win until everyone's in the ring? Very odd.)

Based on what I've been reading from Meltz, though, I'm anticipating that the "series premiere, because what you watched already doesn't count" will be a lot heavier on the music and lighter on the wrestling.

I wanted to check out their roster, but the WSX site is awful and wasn't really worth the time.

If you saw it Friday night, or when it replayed last night, you've seen the "Series Premiere" that's going to be on Tuesday. At least according to my Tivo. The next new episode will be on Friday 2/2 at 10pm.

As far as my understanding, Jack Evans was/is already a pretty decent star over in Japan, so it may just be a matter of time. (YouTube might have some of his matches there if they haven't taken them down yet.) I'm a little disappointed that they gave him a generic "b-boy" gimmick, but I guess it's another way for him to stand out. As far as the show goes, I like that they're featuring some of the stand out "indy" guys like Sydal and Hart. But I can't STAND the A.D.D.-vertigo camera work. The wrestlers' moves are flashy enough to sell the "whoa! cool!" factor and are actually diminished when the camera view is zooming, rotating, and switching angles all at the same time. Muting the commentary is probably also a must. Overall though, I liked it well enough.

I watched it with my 15 year old nephew, who isn't in to wrestling and who wanted to play Xbox 360 when it came on. He sat and watched the whole show waiting to see "who would win" before turning on the Xbox. To keep him off of video games for 30 minutes is quite a feat, and his is the age demo they are aiming for.

Are the ratings for Fridays show available yet?

Your TiVo LIES. Or MTV messed up. That'd be fun to see.

Maybe I'm missing the finer points, but isn't that Jack's normal gimmick?

Well, that answered that apparently the TIVO was right as MTV REPLAYED the premier episode tonight and that's what I got to catch. Man that truly a cluster F**K job on the editing and the matches, while going for the excitement with crazy spots, work alright but I don't know how much of it I'll end up catching. Was nice to see New Jack.

Certainly different. I can see why the WWE would want it to die a miserable death. I don't think it does anyone in wrestling good for THAT style to get over.

That said, it WAS fun to watch. I mean, people blew up. And it does get guys exposure and money, so as Tazz says, it's all good in the hood.

If it gives Evans or some others some exposure, bully for us all.

I think its ironic that the show aired with the amount of violence and highspoty stuff that it did in that it was XPW without the star power (and yes they did have star power). It almost seems as though XPW could've been the show you were watching.
The most amazing thing to me about the show was that it pulled a 1.0 rating against a WWE show with Vince in the second half. The show with no where near the same amount of star power as TNA pulled just .1 less than what TNA does on a weekly basis. So think about that. If more people knew that TNA was on (via better publicity) it would probably draw better and be seen as legit competition, but simply by the fact that WSX has the MTV marketing machine behind it, it drew almost as good of a rating.

I just watched that "battle royal" stuff online and WOW that was a massacre! Nothing really made sense, but at least it looked "nice"! Or should I say different? That's more you can say about RAW each and every week, where you get THE SAME OLD SH** all the time!
