Since only wpob (The W) predicted this final matchup of the season, I figured we might as well give everyone one last shot at getting this right. So, who takes home the Lombardi Trophy? Do the Bears get to finally let the 1985 team become part of history instead of the monkey on their back? Does Peyton Manning get the ring that lets him become John Elway instead of Dan Marino?

I said it at the beginning of the season when I bet on them at 14/1 to win it all, and by golly I'm sure not backing out of it now. Super Bowl XLI to be won by...DA BEARS. Grossman hits just enough big passes to get some points on the board, the Bears defense bends but doesn't break and keeps Manning from ever getting too into a rhythm, Bears win 31-23.

You KNOW who I'm taking.

Indy wins, Grossman plays like he did in Week 17. I'm contractually obligated to say this, by the way. It says so on the back of my season ticket invoice. :-)

Bears 27
Colts 23

Bears win in spite of Grossman, as the weakness New England exploited against the Colts really comes back to haunt them this week, as at least 2 Chicago scores are either scored by special teams or special teams provides an extremely short field for the Chicago offense. Chicago has 2 backs to mix things up with, and they are good at causing turnovers on defense. Of course, if the Colts contain the Bears return unit and don't turn the ball over, it is 42-3 Colts, but, I still have faith in the Manning family not coming through in the big game. Maybe Rex brings in Spurrier as a guest to haunt Peyton.

The Indy defense will actually outshine the Bears D when they pick Grossman three times, bringing one of them back for a score.

Outside, in warm weather?

Peyton picks apart Chicago's defense and Rex Grossman eclipses David Woodley as the worst quarterback to ever play in a Super Bowl.

Da Bears 26
Indy 24

Bears have a fighting chance. CB's and DL are just as good as the Pats, but Indy won't be able to go over the middle like in the AFC Championship game. Grossman-level QB's have won the SB before (Dilfer, Williams). If Bears don't have to have Rex win the game for them, they'll be ok.

As for who I want to win, I was going to go for the Bears. I don't hate Peyton and I'd like to see Vinatieri do well. Still, Bill Polian is the GM of the Colts, and I hate him with a passion. Just when I got set to root for Chicago, I see this picture....

(image removed)

Still though, one asshole fan of a particular team isn't a good representation of said organization. An asshole GM of a team is. I'm rooting for Chicago.

BOS...all I have to say is that the guy to the right of the dumbass is wearing shorts. To a Bears game. In January. In Chicago. That should tell you the kind of geniuses we're dealing with.

If anything the media here seemed desperate to get people to be overly polite about the Saints. Articles in both papers talked about how the fans should cheer for the Bears but not boo the Saints. It got to be a bit of overkill.

Apparently you were in a coma during the AFC Championship Game?

EDIT: I just remembered you love the Gators. Forget I tried to even argue the point. I'm sure it would be futile.

The Colts proved in the game against Baltimore that when they're up against a strong defense they're quite happy to drive into field goal range and let Vinateri work his magic. They didn't drive past the Ravens' 15 in that game and still won handily. The very same thing could happen against Chicago.

To me the game hinges on Chicago's defense being able to take the ball away from Indy's offense. Otherwise Indy and Vinateri will FG them to death.

My head says Indy, but I'd really rather see Urlacher and Chicago triumphant.

Tailgating Forbidden For Super Bowl

Die-hard football fans attending the Super Bowl game at Dolphin Stadium are getting a rude awakening after finding out that no tailgating of any type will be allowed on game day within one mile of the stadium.

"There is no tailgating allowed in the Dolphin Stadium parking lots," Sue Jaquez, a member of the Super Bowl XLI Host Committee, confirmed on Tuesday. "And there is no tailgating anywhere within a one-mile radius of the stadium." "And there are no RVs allowed."

Tailgating is permitted during regular- and post-season games for Dolphins fans, a team official on Tuesday said it would indeed be allowed at the Super Bowl. According to Jaquez, however, the official has been seriously misinformed.

The Dolphins do not organize and oversee the Super Bowl, Jaquez pointed out. Instead, those duties are left up to NFL officials. And because of security reasons, no pre-game partying on (or very near) the premises will take place. Fans spotted tailgating could face charges, Jaquez said.

"This is part of the NFL, not the Dolphins," Jaquez said. "If the Dolphins are saying there's tailgating -- or think it's going to be allowed -- then they need to contact the NFL."

Detective Nelda Fonticella of the Miami-Dade Police confirmed the Super Bowl rules.

If caught grilling or consuming alcohol within that one-mile radius of Dolphins Stadium, fans initially "will be warned and asked to pick up their things and leave," Fonticella said. "We're trying to make this a pleasant experience for everyone, and there will be plenty to do in the week leading up to the game."

But it is true that Manning didn't really play any better than Grossman during the first two Colt playoff games (and it's not like Grossman's play was HOF caliber). It didn't matter because the Colts (and the Bears) won anyway. All that means that Sunday's result is not solely dependent on the play of either quarterback. Football is a team sport, and starting QB's are not the same as starting pitchers, no matter how much the media and some fans may want to think otherwise.

Bears take it. Grossman hasn't had a bad year by any means; it's on par statistics wise with guys like Aikman, Montana, and Elway early in their careers, and Rex has a lot of time left in the league. People just jump up and down on him because ESPN and NFL Network point out the bad more than the good. Check the Indy/Pats thread for the homework I did in regards to how Grossman compares to history. Note: I didn't delve into INT and TD passes.

http://the-w.com/thread.php/id=31831&page=1

Grossman and the Bears offense is twice that of the Ravens.

Bears 23, Colts 20.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing either team win. I'm looking forward to this one more than any Super Bowl since Denver-Green Bay.
