It's looking north several miles south of Staunton, IL where the "Staunton Bypass" splits off from the original "Carlinville Alignment" and takes the highway to Litchfield. You definitely want to turn right.
Lincoln is pretty big on Route 66 right now. Not only do they have the multiple alignments, but the city is really excited about the tourism prospects of the road (as they should be; even with higher gas prices tourism is up in every major town along the road in Illinois this summer). We had our Route 66 Association of Illinois banquet there (at Lincoln College) this summer and they rolled out the red carpet for us.
