Wow, those are some old school music names on those tiny boxes. Their shapes confuse me, what does one keep in those boxes?

I thought VW's were supposed to be dependable? Unless that's 130161 miles. Seems unlikely though.

That engine light on my car has been lit for over a year. Every time it's been serviced or MOT'd in that time they've said there's nothing actually wrong that they can see and turned the light off. It comes on again a few days later.

Same with my Corolla. Supposedly it is the catalytic converter and it is working fine but JUST below the tolerance that triggers the light.

I've gotten low battery light intermittently on my Cavalier for more than a year. Had them check it one last time before winter because if it was going to break, didn't want it to happen in the dead of winter. No problems.

My ABS light is on also and that is in fact broken. One of those things that costs too much to fix.

I actually have something wrong (thermostat/regulator/something or other is causing my radiator fan to come on and stay on despite the engine being cold and the outside temperature being like 15 degrees - and that sucker is LOUD), and it's been wrong for several weeks, but the engine light didn't come on until yesterday so I hadn't bothered to get it looked at beyond confirming there was a faulty part when I had my 30K check done. I'm still paying for tires!

Fortunately for me, my "extended warranty" will actually cover replacement of that part so all will be well Thursday after I take it in.

I've been doing alot of research into a new car, specifically VWs. The Passat CC, Golf GTI, and the TDI engines.

From what I have been reading from reviews from message boards to Car & Driver, VWs USED to be uber-reliable, but not anymore. True, the ones with the most problems will write about them more than someone with few or no problems, but C&D spent $1461 in scheduled service for the first 41,437 miles on their 2006 GTI. Conversely, their 06 Eclipse GT cost $432 in scheduled service stops over the same mileage.
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/car/07q4/2006_volkswagen_gti-long-term_road_test/service_stops_page_2

That review had me looking at the Mazdaspeed 3, but with gas prices shooting up again, I am really looking at a diesel (TDI engine) again. They cost more up front but get such great mileage, despite some of the quality problems. Some Golf/Jetta TDI owners can get 55-60 MPG if they drive like grannies.

I swear the newer (2008-on) VWs were making a comeback on the quality front. Perhaps only the European models, or perhaps I just watch too much Top Gear. Of course, I drive a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer, so I can't really say one way or the other.

Drive like a Grannie and you'll have to deal with the people yelling at you when you drive through a farmer's market, or down the wrong side of the highway. Basically, people over 65 should have to take the written and road test every six months to prove they can still handle driving.

Mine's a Yaris, and i started to get the engine light problem after i had a new catalytic converter fitted, so we most likely have the exact same issue.

Hydrox is one of the worst names for a cookie ever. It sounds like something that will kill you if you breathe too much of it. "He died of Hydrox poisoning."

Also, even though Hydrox was invented first, it's telling that The W's automatic spellchecker says Hydrox isn't a word, but it recognizes Oreo just fine.

I've been doing it for the last couple of weeks! Somehow got myself dragooned into doing "will code for food" websites for 2 different friends-of-friends. And since this isn't what I do for a living, I don't have tools, so am just "bangin' it out old skool."

(PHP? CSS? SSI? Pfft. I think I have an m4 around here somewhere. ;-) )

Yeah, I miscalculated when I needed to start, so everybody who saw the early graphic can come back 4/4 to see it again.

WrestleMania 2. Three cities, three main events.

What a terrible idea.
