| #1 Posted on 26.5.02 2322.54 Reposted on: 26.5.09 2326.47 | Look - they have multiple camera angles showing that the yellow came out before Tracy pulled into the lead. There's a yellow light in front of each driver which lights up when the yellow comes out. I'd imagine that the IRL has logs to back that up. (And indeed, the IRL timing logs seem to confirm that Castroneves still had the lead when the yellow came out.) I've seen elsewhere that, by IRL rule, the order would have reverted to the previous lap's running order - with Castroneves in the lead. But it's all a big IRL-based conspiracy to Paul Tracy, isn't it? Hate for CART racers - hate for Canadians - hate for Barry Green (his car owner, and the owner of Jacques Villeneuve's car in 1995 when he *won* a close race on a controversial call) - hate for Tracy - it's obviously some type of hate keeping him out of the winner's circle. So, like Gore, he's going to attempt to whine his way to the front of a close race. Not much sportsmanship there.
Steph (so Sarah Fisher came in 24th - better luck next year! )

But man, what a boring race this year. I don't recall a single meaningful pass for the lead that didn't happen during the pits. "Fastest ever" doesn't mean diddly SHIT when I don't get to see any actual RACING. | The Goon

It certainly makes no sense for him to file a formal protest if all the evidence points the other way. Or does he have other footage?
Maybe soon he'll release a documentary "Racing With Shadows." | CRZ

Q: SO. Why exactly do I even watch the Indy 500, anyway?
A: Because I've ALWAYS watched it, I guess.

They still do that in NASCAR. The problem is that some drivers try to run straight over others in their sprint to "get the yellow flag", causing additional crashes besides the one that brought out the yellow in the first place.
My take? Immediately after receiving notification of the yellow, Castroneves backed off the throttle to conserve gas. Tracy took a second or two longer to comply and had fuller fuel tanks, so he swept into the lead convincingly - but, unfortunately, illegally (as the yellow was already out). It's a matter of fractions of a second, but that's life. If the race had finished under green, Tracy likely would have won, since he had the gas for a charge to the end and Castroneves (apparently) would have needed to follow a conservation plan just to finish without running out of gas.

I've seen Indy live, and while it might be past it's prime, it is still a fun event to go to. I haven't been to a NASCAR race yet, but when I do, I'll be able to properly compare the two. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
