Easily runs away with "Worst PPV of the Year".

Just two matches were announced leading into the show and they couldn't even give us THAT, as they pulled a bait and switch with Sabu. The two most over guys in the night were CM Punk and RVD, so naturally they got eliminated from the match FIRST.

The highlight was the opener between the Hardys and MNM. It was all downhill from there.

For those curious, the matches were:

Striker vs. Balls (Extremely Enforced Rules match)
Terkay & Burke vs. FBI
Dreamer vs. Daivari
Mike Knox & Kelly Kelly vs. Kevin Thorn & Ariel

Congrats to Lashley for winning the title, but I give it a month before he drops the belt to someone else.

EDIT: I thought I heard some TNA chants, but dismissed it as a silly thought. But Meltzer confirms that fans busted out a few TNA chants. Probably not what WWE was hoping for.

The crowd gave a shit about TWO guys. Rob Van Dam and CM Punk. Yet, Lashley gets the belt because he's big and muscular.

Fuck this company, and their 20 years behind the times mentality.

Show went off the air at 10:18.

This show sucked.

I'm pretty sure that was in direct reaction to Terkay ripping off Samoa Joe's finisher.

I pity anyone who actually paid for this pile of dogshit.

Well, RVD would probably be in a different situation if he hadn't gone and gotten himself arrested, and Punk is still pretty new--if he doesn't get the belt somewhere not-too-far down the road with more buildup, THEN there's a complaint there.

Of course, that doesn't address all the other things wrong with this PPV, and with this company in general, but I don't have a problem with putting the belt on Lashley per se.

Meltzer was the bomb recapping this: Favorite parts:

"MNM vs. Hardys are opening the show. Maybe they can do a two hour draw."

"He said when Hogan dies, Hulkamania dies. When Flair dies, nobody will yell "Whooo." But there will still be an ECW when he dies. I hope not, because that would mean he's got a terminal illness."

Not a great show, but honesltly...was anyone expecting it to be? I'm shocked that any "smart" fan bought this show, as all the lead-up indicated it to be a steaming pile of shit.

Think this'll beat Genesis?

OH MY GOOOOOD!

Lashley = ECW champ? *nuffsaid*

And the first two guys eliminated (before Holly and Test!!!) are Punk and RVD! Wow! That is exactly what I predicted! BUT I JUST TRIED TO BE FUNNY! IT WAS A JOKE, VINCE! A JOKE!

Edit: From gerweck.net: Bob Ryder is reporting that Rob Van Dam's contract is set to expire in about six months, and is reportedly miserable with his current situation.

This show really did suck. The whole time, I think everyone was thinking, "why is this on PPV?" It was like a televised house show. Most original ECW guys got buried HARDCORE.

Give it 9 months and RVD will be squaring off for a real dream match for the fans - versus AJ Styles. It'll be interesting to see how they use RVD in the coming months.

Lashley is just as new to WWE as CM Punk. So I don't understand how a short career in WWE so far can be used against CM Punk. Lashley is WWE's answer to Brock Lesnar, and it helps that he's black - I'll say it. Lashley's not that bad for a guy with less than two years time in the business, and I actually like him. However, he has not proven himself on the mic, has very little charisma, is still green in the ring, and can't be trusted to carry or lead a match due to his inexperience. So the Brock Lesnar look must be why they want him carrying the belt.

This show bombed. Big time.

Um, Lashley's been on WWE TV for over six months longer than CM Punk, and in that time had won the US Title and competed for the World Title in a PPV main event. His tenure is a little more filled-out than CM Punk's.

A terrible, awful show. Did any of you seriously pay money for this? I only watched it because we get it for free over here.

Only got this show cause my cable company screwed up and gave me credit.

Quick fix 1: CM Punk and RVD were out 1st and 3rd.

Quick fix 2: TNA chants were also sporadically in the main event after RVD was eliminated.

Lashley winning this match is gonna cause the same type of backlash that Cena experiences. Namely, in what was supposed to be a huge competitive match (Cena's win over JBL, specifically), he wins without too much trouble and seems unstoppable instead of really earning it. Which in turn de-values the belt beyond recognition. Hopefully he doesn't put hydraulics in it.

On the bright side:

I really liked the opening match, and didn't hate any of the others. This is the first ECW tv i've seen in about 9 weeks since i was home from uni this weekend, so i may be biased in that i was just glad to see anything. I like Lashley, but the only way i'd truly be happy with his winning would be if it involved a running powerslam or, even better, a dominator on Show, as long as that didn't kill either of them.

The promise of Hardys v. MNM was almost enough by itself to get me to haul myself down to the bar to watch this. Thank Goddess common sense asserted itself.

Anyone else fully expect a swerve to where Lashley turns heel, aligning himself with Paul Heyman & saying it was Paul that brought him into the fold all along?

Yes. Because the Big Show can no longer cut it, that will be the reason.
Just like RVD couldn't cut it, according to Heyman.

And, to go way back..just like Brock Lesnar couldn't lift the Big Show and thus couldn't manhandle the Big Show, yadda yadda.

It totally makes sense for Heyman's character to latch on to the Next Big Thing.
The important question however, is who will be the face out for revenge? Considering he can claim he never got his shot, I would say it will be Sabu.

Thanks, my point exactly. What is six months? It says something when Punk is immeasurably more over than Lashley, when each one is just about as new as the other. Punk can now go back to feuding with Test, even though a feud with RVD would tear the house down and put both guys even more over.

How is that your point exactly? I don't deny that CM Punk is over, and would have been a better choice to make champion. But your first point was that Punk's been around about as long as Lashley, which isn't true. Punk debuted in July. Lashley debuted last October. Punk hasn't won a title yet. Lashley's won one. Punk hadn't even main-evented an ECW show before Sunday. Lashley main-evented on SmackDown all the time, and at No Mercy. Lashley has had far more exposure than Punk, and he's a safer bet from a business perspective.

I agree with everything you said until the very last line. Lashley has shown absolutely nothing in terms of being able to move business. He's shown nothing in terms of generating a crowd response. In terms of drawing money, Lashley has never been given a chance to do so on any level, whereas at least Punk has done well in smaller promotions. Lashley, if given the belt for any length of time, is a total crap shoot business-wise, just as Punk would be.

That said, I don't mind this move, because right now whomever holds the ECW belt is a transition champ until they figure out what the hell they are doing with the brand. Why waste your youngest, hottest, most over star on a one month title reign? Lashley will be able to get over again simply because of his look and raw physicality. Punk though is still in a position where he needs to be protected in the booking, and if ECW is in a death spiral, why risk it with him? I suspect Punk will be on Raw by mid-2007.

I'm worried about the prospect of Punk going to RAW or SmackDown!. He's a small guy, and if you're name isn't Rey Mysterio then that tends to mean being in a) a tag team or b) the cruiserweight divison.

Joey Styles was guaranteeing us a new champion from the Chamber. Of course we knew this, but we weren't meant to read spoilers of course !

The sort of card besides this and Hardyz / MNM that you could have got from picking names from a hat. A wonder they stretched to even 2¼ hours.

I was going to make a crack about even Vince himself hoping for a VKM appearance by the end of that abortion, but then I realised this is probably how Vince has always actually viewed ECW, so if the attendance/buyrates/reviews suck it will just prove to him that only his creations can draw.

And it's funny that Two Night Stands and that one TV show drove a PPV to Georgia. And the people live appeared to love it.

I've never seen someone, in charge of making people money, make this much of a monkey out of people that used to be smart

Speaking of which - now would be the time to shell out 4 bucks to hear the "pay smark sites" go apeshit for a month. It's quality entertainment, but takes some serious marochistic / sadist behaviour.
