From page 34 of America's greatest newspaper

The gist of the deal: Genius Productions, the studio led by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, will have exclusive rights to exploit the WWE's 90,000 hour video library, the first of which will be the Piper DVD, that there will be a minimum of 25 new titles next year and they'll co-produce with Vince direct to video movies.

If you count PPV's being released on DVD as around 17-18 per year, that would still mean at least 7-8 DVD's of "new" material next year, and that would be if they only hit their minimum. I guess this means that the Hogan DVD will be the in-house swansong for DVD's. Does anyone know why Sony is involved with the AWA DVD coming out in November though?

Good. I hope this means that the video quality of WWE DVDs improves to the point that I don't feel like I'm watching an internet stream instead of a DVD when I'm watching in-ring footage.

You're kidding, right? I mean, every DVD I buy looks great on my tv. Even with the classic matches, its pretty clear and the sound is above average for 20-30 year old matches.

I'd just be happy if they improved the sound over what WWE does.

Another DVD of wrestlers telling their career story while canned faux metal overbearingly blares out the L/R channels and I'm gonna punt.

I agree. I stopped getting them from anywhere but the second hand store because I got annoyed at the heavy "blocking" effect that they all seem to get whenever anyone, anywhere, moves anything. God help you if it goes to a wide shot of the crowd when The Rock comes out or something.

Sound issues don't matter to me, as I'm still running audio through basic tv speakers, but if it means an improvement in that department too, then fantastic. If they're just taking what the WWE gives them (canned bad "rock" music) and putting it to DVD, probably no change there.

The article doesn't say for sure how many of the movies that they co-produce with McMahon will be included in the 25 that they release though. When you count things like the Diva Search DVD and a couple Divas DVDs a year, they'll probably be doing the same number of other DVDs (a few) as they do now.
