I couldn't get into tonight's show hardly at all. Let's make this quick.

Team 3D vs. Bentley & Kazarian: The angle is 3D is working their way from the bottom up -- apparently B&K are ranked below DitR AND Sharky & Smiley. THAT must hurt.

Shane Douglas is on commentary, with the Nats behind him. Douglas thinks that Nats should be getting the BfG title shot. On one ramp, also scouting, are AMW (with Gail Kim). On the other ramp, the James Gang (psst -- when you're not actually wrestling, you don't have to wear matching outfits).

Match is "alright." B&K don't look awful but they do the job pretty hard. Ray looks exactly like a weeble.

After the match, 3D offers an open challenge to any tag team at all at BfG. Early prediction: 4-way with the Nats, AMW, and James Gang.

Abyss and James Mitchell are in the ring -- earlier, Mitchell had made a deal with Cornette: if Abyss gets the stolen title belt back from Samoa Joe, Abyss gets the first post-BfG title shot. Now Mitchell calls out Joe -- here he comes -- he slaps Abyss around and Abyss counters with a chokeslam! Abyss grabs the belt. JJ is out to reclaim it but Abyss isn't so sure he want to give it up. Joe's back up -- running kick to JJ and a powerslam to Abyss. Joe picks up the belt and leaves.

Clip is shown of AJ in Mexico, where he won some sort of trophy. Konnan and Homicide and a bunch of Mexican dudes (wrestlers? I don't know) show up and kick Styles' ass. I don't think they broke the trophy over his back, though, which seems like an oversight.

LAX vs. Tyler Black and a guy whose name I didn't catch: Tyler Black looks a LOT like CM Punk. Oh, man, LAX MURDERS these guys -- Hernandez takes off his wifebeater, wraps it around Black's neck, and HURLS him over halfway across the ring, sending him crashing, upside down, into the corner. Black gets put up on the turnbuckles and bulldogged off by Homicide, and Hernandez Border Tosses the other guy over Black's supine body. Double pin and THAT'S how you do a squash.

Konnan cuts a quick promo about Cornette stacking the odds against LAX with the Ultimate X match, but they'll win in the 6 Sides of Steel.

Shark Boy vs. Norman Smiley vs. Elix Skipper vs. David Young vs. Eric Young: Cornette made this match earlier and says that the loser gets fired. Whoever gets the pin gets a set of steak knives. This is basically two tag teams and odd-man-out Young, who is understandably uneasy -- especially since, from a storytelling perspective, there's only one reason why this match exists.

Total comedy match, but are attention is being pulled in too many directions for anything to really register. Shark Boy gets the pin after Larry Zbyzsko hits Young with a golf club (this is after Young steals Larry's toupee). All of the wrestlers celebrate (dancing! hugs!) while Young sits in the ring, dejected and unbelieving. There are shots of people in the crowd -- one guy is sobbing and rubbing his eyes with his fist -- ha ha! Early prediction: Eric Young comes back under a mask.

Borash in the back with JJ and Christian, who are tagging tonight. JJ hogs all the mic time until Christian motions to someone to bring him a mic from off camera. He uses this mic to interrupt JJ's anti-Sting rant, much to the confusion of Borash, who stares at the first mic in utter bewilderment. Christian says that he should be the captain of this team. JJ seems not so sure.

Jarrett & Christian Cage vs. Ron Killings & Christopher Daniels: Daniels is teaming with Truth because of AJ's Mexican beatdown. Highlight of the match is when Truth convinces Daniels that they should dance. At the finish, Homicide runs in and blackjacks Daniels -- Christian is all ready to finish him off with the frogsplash, but JJ sneaks in and gets the pin.

Cage demands a mic -- JJ grabs it and requests that Joe come out -- which he does. Joe goes for a high knee but JJ gets out of the way, and Joe crashes to the floor. JJ's got his belt back! Wait, no -- Cage Unpretties JJ and takes the belt. Here's Rhino -- GORE GORE GORE for Christian -- belt flies out of his hands onto the apron -- Joe is standing right there, on the floor, and he casually picks up the belt and heads to the back. As do we. Metaphorically.

And so: Hype -- though not necessarily progress -- for several BfG matches. So-so wrestling -- my favorite match might have been LAX's 30-second squash. Nothing as good as, say, Test vs. RVD.

Next week: Kurt Angle SPEAKS! (Although they do not specifically say that he will be in the Impact Zone.) Also, Bobby Roode informs us of his decision re: management!

LAX needs those belts back, stat. They are the hottest thing on the show not named Angle. And I hate myself for now enjoying Konnan.
It will be interesting to hear how candid Kurt will be next week. I get the feeling it will be more kayfabe, and less shoot, though.

It's about time they start using Angle. I mean, they should have struck when the iron was hot: and had him show up at the last PPV. It would have been better than some badly produced video.

There's a bit of a disconnect with the Jarrett/Sting buildup. The Sting character is perfect as the avenging babyface come down to smite evil where it lay. The videos are doing a good job of showing that. However, when his foil is Hee-haw, white pants Jarrett, the avenging angel deal seems a bit hokey and senseless.
I mean, did Sting really did to go into the abyss to find the path to defeating Jarrett? Couldn't he have just sparred with y'know the entire roster (who all have seemingly beat Jarrett for the title at one time or another)?

I mean, I get doing this when the foil is the NWO or Hulk Hogan, but y'know...Sting might be overtraining a bit, all I'm saying.

Also, Cornette is easily the most ineffective authority figure in forever. It's time to just do away with his character, or turn him straight heel. That's the only way anything he does would make sense.

Decent enough squash match for LAX; Team 3D's still kinda boring to me when compared to such teams as AMW, LAX and Styles/Daniels. I certainly wouldn't wanna work for Jim Cornette, who was pretty obviously going out of his way to fire Eric Young; it seemed every match he's been in for the past few months have been de facto "You Better Not Lose or Else" matches. (The Glengarry Glen Ross reference by Karlos the Jackal was funnier than hell, though, at least to me.)

Main event was pretty good, though they didn't explain to my satisfaction why Killings was Daniels's partner instead of anyone else. Heck, for that matter, unless I wasn't paying close enough attention, we didn't know what the main event was until that very segment.

I wish they'd go into more detail as to why Cornette is trying so hard to get Jarrett his belt back-- why, is it because Jarrett promised "there'll be hell to pay" if he doesn't get it back? Just who is who's boss here? Maybe I should rephrase my first sentence-- I wish they'd given Cornette's motivation a little more thought before embarking on this particular angle. (It is fun to watch Samoa Joe beat the hell out of people, though, don't get me wrong.)

17 days before Bound for Glory, and Sting hasn't been in the Impact Zone and done anything for the past two months. And he's got a title shot at the biggest PPV of the year for TNA. Yeesh, I wonder how many of the fans in attendance will be pro-Sting, and how many will simply be anti-Jarrett. But if you ask me, Samoa Joe should've gotten this title shot anyway.

The video packages for sting are easily the best thing tna has ever done of that style (and to be fair, they've done some good vignettes lately). The only drawback is showing Lex and Buff as his trainers for the big match. Saying that is like offering someone a porterhouse steak seasoned with crap. It would be awsome otherwise, but they had to go and crap on it.

just some stupidass show, for free.

They're never going to turn a profit if they can't even convert layups like this one.

I'm not sure I see the problem.

They're hyping that he "speaks" next week. Then (if next week will be a pre-taped promo), they'll hype him actually APPEARING "live" in the Impact Zone at, I assume, another stupidass free show (although it would have to be at the same tapings, I guess).

THEN, they'll hype his first "in action" appearance, as Special Enforcer at their big PPV, Bound for Glory. (Or his first live appearance at all, if he does two weeks of pre-taped promos.)

THEN, they'll hype his first actual match for the first TV show in the new timeslot.

Is your issue that they're stretching things out too much, or that they're blowing things early?

Mmmm hype.

Granted, it remains to be seen what his speaking on dis will consist of. But I think Angle's first appearance in TNA is one of the rare drawing cards they're presented with. Angle means a lot more than Sting right now and building to Sting's debut and saving it for PPV led to a way above-average buyrate that they never would've gotten if they'd had him do an interview on Impact ahead of time. I don't think there's extra allure in "but at the PPV, he'll be Enforcing" that will make up for already having gotten him for free.

If Sting was getting advice on how to counter Jarrett's stuff from guys who've beaten him for the belt (AJ Styles, Ron Killings, others), it'd allow TNA to elevate them by having them associated with Sting...AND make the match that much more important. The single notion behind Sting even being in TNA is that NOBODY wants Jarrett as champion. If the only people that really care about helping him are Luger and Buff, they're going about this the wrong way.

Team 3D's rise through the ranks would be more convincing if they weren't having so much trouble beating the cellar guys. They should be tearing through teams as LAX did this week, and, in fact, a 3D/LAX match is much more interesting a bout than 3D vs. anyone else. This is allegedly the best team ever. They should dominate. It's entirely possible that LAX is the best thing in major North American wrestling today.

I love the writing for this show as it leads to the PPV, and they're doing a great job featuring all the big angles leading to the show. I'm digging Joe's possession of the belt and how the mercenaries get to fight for it. It keeps the belt in play despite Sting's absence and allows new blood to fight for it. Joe/Abyss (and maybe even Christian) is a much fresher match-up than a title angle with either Sting or Jarrett.

I don't care for Eric Young at all. If only his loss meant he'd really go away. I thought Killings was gone from TNA, and I'm glad to see him work, even as a replacement for Styles.
