So....did anyone watch the "grand social experiment". Without spoiling anything, I wasn't really overwhelmed by anything.

For all their "high minded" social experiment talk, they sure did highlight a lot of folks as portraying some stereotypes. Editing? Otherwise? Not a lot of drama.

Cao Boi is ummm...interesting though.

I'm curious to see what everyone else thought.

Cao Boi seems like he's going to be fun as a rabble rouser. His headache cure was amusing. Still, at this point I think he's the first to go from that tribe. Its interesting because his relationship with the tribe seems to highlight a generation gap, but again, how much of this is editing and presentation?

I find it amusing that the team that cheated and had two chickens ultimately wound up with none. That Flicka girl does seem rather stupid. The white people all huddled together for warmth seemed creepy. So far they have done nothing to make me like any of them in the least.

I still don't see what makes this so 'experimental'. I think if anything, the experiment is testing if people will watch something with the potential to be racially charged. I only watched last night out of boredom. What does that prove?

Underwhelmed as well. I think alot of it has to do with Survivor becoming so repetitive. They've been in essentially the same island setting for the past few seasons. Only slight divergence was with Guatemala. At least it seemed like they were trying to be creative with the first few seasons-- Outback, Africa, two islands and the Amazon. Now it's always an island location.

They're gonna' build puzzles, run through Boy Scout pioneering projects (that sorta' resemble the old American Gladiator's "Eliminator"), and have to escape from a wooden cage. Then, someone tries to be the "leader" and ticks off everyone else. Someone gets in a argument over being lazy. On the fifth episode, they'll all be told to "drop their buffs" and we'll have new tribes. Yay.

I was offended by Cao Boi's "jokes". Especially the part about the "slanty eyes". And I'm not even Asian. I dunno', but the ding dongs who like to proclaim themselves as "unique" and "different" usually aren't.

One improvement: Exile Island looks like a complete bitch this season-- broken ship hull and about one acre of sand.

I think it's far too early to make any judgments about these people. CBS really should go with a two hour premiere for Survivor, though. It's just too hard to get a read on 20 people in such a short time. That said, it seemed like the Caucasian group was the least likable of the four groups.

One of the things noted by the Asian group was that the producers thought of all those folks as "Asian," but they didn't really group themselves as like-background people. They had people with Vietnamese, Korean and Filipino backgrounds and they would necessarily be grouped together as ethnically similar.

As always, I will continue to watch this grandfather of all reality shows.

I like that the Hispanic team (should Hispanic be capitalized?) name sounded like iTunes.

I also wondered what Earl would think about Karma (again with the capital?) being a "bizzle."

That's all I took from the episode.

I'll admit it. The gimmick got me to watch. And I haven't watched since All-Stars. (That was in the Cook Islands too, right? I know they've been in the Cook Islands before.)

I'm liking Puka (the Asian tribe) the best so far. They seem like people I can get behind. The Causcasians and Latinos suffered from a lack of screen time, so they're hard to read. Except I already don't like Jonathan. Hopefully he won't find the idol on Exile Island and coast to the Final Four.

So all in all, good enough to pique my interest, but The Office and Smallville return next week. I may not have room for ol' Survivor in my schedule.

While I wouldn't mind two hours, that would probably be overkill for the average viewer. 90 minutes would probably work best.

Nope, they've never been in the Cook Islands before (at least not here in America - other countries' versions of Survivor have used this location before, though). All-Stars was in the Pearl Islands, off the coast of Panama, and it was the second season in a row that location had been used. (In fact, with three seasons including Exile Island, Panama is the only location to be used for the American game more than once!)

Anyways, I'm already more into this cast than any in my recent memory, so bravo to CBS for having the balls to go through with this. It's obvious, though, that many of these people have never seen the show before and thus have no idea how to play the game. When the African-American tribe dies a quick and painful death, they'll have no one to blame but themselves for breaking Rule #1 of Survivor: "Don't vote out strength early". (Unless next week, the Latino tribe foolishly decides to break Rule #2: "Don't throw challenges under any circumstances" as well!)

Um, the guy they voted out really wasnt a strength. He was SLOW in the challenge, appeared lazy at camp and was far more into making brownie points with the younger, more athletic guy, to actually align himself with the ladies, which should have been his first mission right off the bat.
