Edge (C) VS John Cena
(If Cena loses, he signs with Smackdown)

There are quite a few good reasons to send John Cena to Smackdown - most notably the name factor as Smackdown makes it's "season premiere" on, technically, a new network. In addition, the members of DX would logically be moving on to a world title feud, and that would probably play better against a heel Edge than a struggling-to-be-a-face John Cena.

There are a lot of better reasons not to do it, though. First of all, this is a lo-o-ong stretching feud and seperating the two of them until at least post-Rumble would assuredly mark the end. And, if it's the end, even in a crowd that is almost sure to side with Edge, they're not ending a feud this long standing without their superman babyface going over.

In addition, Smackdown may be a depleted roster, but one thing they sure don't need is another main event face. Batista, Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker - and this week they moved Bobby Lashley towards that level as well. Chris Benoit ought to be back in the next month or so too. They could always pull the trigger and (finally) turn Cena heel, but they've been resisting that for so long, I don't know why they'd do it now.

What Smackdown *needs*, though, is another main event heel. They've done a fine job of making Booker a credible main eventer for the first time since WCW folded, but there's a major dropoff after him. JBL doesn't wrestle anymore. Fit Finlay is awesome, but I can't buy him above the midcard. Ken Kennedy is on his way, but he's probably also on his way to RAW. Mark Henry's still out for months. The Great Khali has been put to pasture. Who's left? William Regal? Chavo Guerrero? Slyvan Grenier?

Therefore, John Cena becomes a three-time WWE Champion and Teddy Long uncovers some funny wording in the contract that sends either loser to Smackdown, letting Edge save the brand (and effectively writing Lita out of storylines as well).

D-Generation X VS Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon and The Big Show

Cell or no, damn near anyone can and will run in during this one - the usual gang of Smackdown heels, guys like Batista and Lashley who are feuding with said-Smackdown heels, Heyman's evil ECW cronies, Sabu, Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer et. al., the rumored returning X-Pac, the much-hyped Harry Smith, etc. etc. etc. It won't be a match, persay, but it'll be an interesting spectacle. Shane McMahon will damn near kill himself, and DX will finally win the physical part of the war.

And then Vince will smarten up and realize that DX always destroyed itself, HHH and Shawn Michaels both care about nothing more than being champion, and sending them both after Cena's belt will split them apart and kill DX on their own, and we have our title feud to carry the rest of 2006.

Lita (C) VS Trish Stratus

It's almost always a bad idea for someone to retire as champion. However, when the belt means as little as the current Womens Title, and when doing otherwise would cheapen the blowoff of a two-year plus on-again-off-again feud, and when the person retiring means as much to the division and is as well-liked and respected as Trish Stratus, you make an exception. They could bust out a big ol' triple-promotion tournament for the belt with people like Jazz and Ashley Massaro and Mickie James, which would be fairly entertaining (and allow the ECW "vixens" who aren't Kelly Kelly to actually earn a paycheck for once). Or they could just forget about the belt entirely like when Madusa jumped to WCW or when Chyna left. No one would be too upset either way.

Johnny Nitro (C) VS Jeff Hardy

Normally, I'd say to strike while the iron is hot and give the belt to Jeff Hardy before everyone stops giving a shit, but I'm going way too face-heavy and need to balance that out somewhere. Johnny Nitro finds some way to retain? (Mick Foley run in leads to DQ? The card's probably too loaded for that.)

The Spirit Squad (C) VS The Highlanders

Depends on if Cryme Tyme are going to be faces or heels. I'm guessing heels, so I'm going with The Highlanders. Hasn't the squad been rumored to break up forever?

Carlito Carribean Cool VS Randy Orton
Randy Orton's push-that-won't-die would normally make him the favorite, but the dipshit's gotten himself back in the doghouse. Yet again. Carlito wins, Orton disappears for another sixty days.

Umaga is being pushed as an unstoppable monster. Kane's been faltering since that stupid feud with himself. Umaga rules. Kane hasn't for quite a while. Umaga wins.

Cena v. Edge -- Should be really good, with both guys working hard. I'll go with Cena, since..... well, I don't see them sending him to SmackDown.

DX v. McMahons & Big Show -- Will probably be very carefully laid out, and thus be entertaining. But all five participants bore me these days. DX wins, but the feud goes on and on and on.

Trish v. Lita -- Could go either way. It's amazing how they've really shown Trish a ton of respect on her way out (she deserves it, but it's not something you expect from WWE or the wrestling business in general). I'll go with Trish, for the feel good moment.

Orton v. Carlito -- I'm totally apathetic about this match. Y'know, I've always been a fan of both these guys. But, lately, they have BORED THE FUCK OUT OF ME. They are just horrendously bland and uninteresting. I'll go with Carlito, with Orton being punished, but I could be wrong.

Spirit Squad v. The Highlanders -- Highlanders. I guess. Or maybe not.

Jeff Hardy v. Johnny Nitro -- This could be fun if both guys are motivated. I could see it going either way, but Jeff winning the IC Title seems to be logical at this point.

Umaga v. Kane -- Umaga wins, goes on to face Cena.

I can't say I'm as excited about this show as some other people seem to be. Cena/Edge and Trish/Lita interest me. The rest... not so much. Doesn't look like a bad card, but there aren't a whole lot of people on the roster that I really care about at this point, for whatever reason.
