OPENING: Review of Edge and Cena from last Monday...Edge announces TLC for the WWE Championship at the next PPV Unforgiven

It's time to WAKE UP! It's time for MONDAY NIGHT RAW! Live from ATLANTA, GA former home of WCW.

Edge is in the middle of the ring...he's cutting a promo on reason why John Cena won't win in two weeks. Edge: It's going to be Tables, Ladders, and Chairs...OH MY! What swinging his fists like an oversized gorilla. Edge has a Rated R Superstar movie for us to watch. Hey, is that the Movie Voice Over Guy from the Gieco commerical or is that the regular WWE guy? Nice...video package. Edge: Cena you're out of your element son. Edge notices Cena enter the ring...Edge: You son of a...dives at Cena who catches him and mucles him into the FU into the Table! He colapses the ladder onto. Cena hits the ramp as his music plays and we head to the first commerical.

***AD BREAK***

We're Back: Jeff Hardy is out...who's he taking on? Johnny Nitro for the IC championship. In comes Nitro with Melina. Lightning fast action opens the match. Dropkick by Nitro and pins galore. Reverse muel kick send Nitro to the outside. That sends the run in commerical break.

***AD BREAK***

We're Back: Chin lock on the mat. They show us Jeff Hardy missing a "High Risk" move. Hardy working his way up. Nitro with a cut off into a hair pull backbreaker. Leads to a two count. Fists to Hardy by Nitro. Kidney forarms. Back suplex...two count. Nitro misses the leg drop...jawbreaker from Hardy. Hangs him over the ropes by Nitro. Nitro working him in the corner. Backbreaker into side russian legsweep. Two count. Jeff Hardy slides under Nitro and pulls off an Electric Chair drop. 8 count and Nitro is up. Flying forarm. Back drop...Hardy making Nitro Roll. Two count on Nitro. Boot to the face by Nitro. Crossbody with a role through. Two count by Hardy. Missed dropkick. Two count on Hardy. Melina "Shrieking". Wisper in the wind flying body attack. Misses the Swanton with interference...TWIST OF FATE! 1.....2.....MELINA!!! DQ on NITRO! Hardy is pissed and takes it out on Nitro with a SWANTON! Melina drags her man out as they start to remind us of what Vince and Shane did to DX last week. Are they going to survive the night? That sends us to a commerical interuption.

***AD BREAK*** Don't forget to watch ECW as DX takes on Big Show tomorrow night on Sci-Fi!

We're Back: This week in wrestling history...WCW featured the first Monday Night Nitro. Look it's Trish Stratus and she runs into Lita who her mouth that leads to slap. Cat fight! Orton out of no where attacking Carlito. Carlito sends into Orton into the garage door. We cut to Lawler and JR who look surprised that happened. Doesn't nearly happen every week? We get to see more previews of "The Marine" which looks ten times better than the Kane movie. We come back and Lita is in front of the Mr. McMahon office with Coach trying to prevent her from knocking...opps he didn't do well. Shane comes out...blah blah blah Shane. Ok Lita here we'll do a tag match. Lita...BLAHHHHH! Ok, we'll make it a six person tag team match. Lita, Edge, Orton vs Trish, Carlito, and John CENA! Coach says something as the commercial break starts.

***AD BREAK***

We're Back: Masters is cutting a promo...we see Maria yawning...WTF?!? Lawler laughs as apparently he saw it. Music plays...Super Crazy is out to take on Masters. Well, it's been a back and forth match. Masters hits a boot and send Crazy into the post. Crazy hiting all the high risk offence. He hits an over the to rope heilo to floor on Masters. He hits everything else until he misses the cross body. Master sets up for the Masterlock, who Lawler calls the Masterpiece, and Crazy escapes. Good grief...after a little bit sloppy spots Super Crazy hits a Moonsault and pulls off the 1...2...3! They show Maria again sniffing and watching paint dry...ok. Shown more of the DX stuff as we go to Commerical.

***AD BREAK***

We're Back: No chance in HELL! You've got no chance in HELL! Vince and Shane are out! We'll it's the Big Show! Huge surprise? JR hasn't been watching the commericals...hmm...why do I have a feeling this is going to set up tomorrow night? Shane going on a promo...saying how bad they beat down DX. That's only taste of what happens at HELL in a CELL. Show saying he's going to have HBK and HHH for dinner tomorrow night at ECW. Here you go here is VKM. Rambling on how they're finally getting rid of DX. About a minute or two LATE! HHH and HBK finally show up. They say thank you for reminding them who they are. They destroy the security force and Vince, Shane with Show make it up the ramp so they can make faces at them and DX smiles in the ring.

***AD BREAK***

We're Back: It's a Triple threat tag team match for a shot at the tag team titles at Unforgiven! Highlanders out, Cade and Murdoch out, and Haas with Big Vis out. The nuetured squad comes out to watch. The Highlanders pull off the win in a quite a cluster f*ck of a match...yet interesting enough that I couldn't watch it. Could it be that the tag team division bores me to tears? I'm going back to sleep...oh, Smackdown this Friday has the World Championship rematch on TV. Another flub or is Batista winning because there match was so bad at Summerslam. Back in the locker room Carlito says he's the king of disrespecting people so he's going to respectfully disrespect Orton tonight. Commerical.

***AD BREAK***

We're Back: Hey it's a live Kiss Cam! WOW! This is going to lead to something. WOOOOOOO! Ric Flair is out! In ATLANTA, GA! Flair talking about Mick Foley. Estrada is out. Estrada says you make him the man now. Umaga gets to the ring...KANE! Monster vs Monster! Still to come the intergender match!

***AD BREAK***

We're Back: WTF? Cryme Tyme? Coming to RAW? Are they actually hiring tag teams now? Highlanders, Cryme Tyme, and what's next? Teddy Long is here for something tonight at RAW. Run down of Unforgiven card. Heels out..Lita, Edge, and Orton out for the match...we get a commercial break.

***AD BREAK***

We're Back: Carlito is the first out for the good guys...here comes Trish who's leaving this month. Here comes John Cena. Well, the Smackdown deal is already signed! So Cena is going to Smackdown. Orton and Cena starting it off. Near fall on Orton. Blockbuster by Cena. Two count again on Orton. Carlito is in. He's taking it to Orton. Textbook dropkick by Carlito! Tag to Cena. The women are going hook it up. Trish and Lita foot to the throat of Lita. Clothesline to Trish...they've cleared the ring for the comercial break.

***AD BREAK***

We're Back: Trish and Lita still in the ring. Lita has Trish in the chin lock. Tag to Carlito and Orton. Mr. Wrestling II reference from JR on knee lifts. Knee to the lower back of Carlito...1...2..kickout. Edge enters to a hurt Carlito. Double team on Carlito. Crowd divided here in Atlanta. Lets go Edge...Lets go Cena. Tag to Orton while Carlito is still hurt. Stomps to Carlito by Orton. Team work keeping Carlito from the other corner. Carlito fighting back...foot to the face. Clothesline two count! Edge cutting off Carlito. More stomps...by Orton. The infamous abdomnial streach! Carltio doesn't even get a count from Mike Chiota WTF? why are they paying you? Side head lock on Carlito...Enzeguri! Double clothesline to Orton/Edge by Cena. Match has broken down. Lita and Trish are legal! Trish in trouble...Carlito save...Orton RKO on Trish! YOU CAN'T SEE ORTON! 1....2....3! Lita wins the match for there Team! Next week it's HHH and VKM. Cena loses...Edge wins...Lita wins. We're OUT!

Well, it flowed, it didn't feel like a train wreck. Watch ECW tomorrow night!

***EDIT***
Please fix date...I was getting ready to type 04 and the fingers slipped. F***!

I thought it was really classy of Flair to say that Foley's treatment wasn't called for. Especially after their feud. Whether it was kayfabe or not, it thought it was a nice gesture.

I wonder...has Vince McMahon been playing Saints Row? That would explain the new CRYME TIME team. Either way, I think its a bad idea.

The Highlanders vs. Spirit Squad could prove to be a fun match at Unforgiven.

Interesting point: Today in wrestling history, WCW Nitro debuted eleven years ago. I miss that show.

Pretty good opening segment, getting some key points across....The "watching paint dry" skit alluding to Nitro and Melina's press conference was---interesting, I guess....Nitro/Hardy was good, and was longer than I expected....I didn't see Super Crazy beating Chris Masters coming. I hope they go somewhere with this....

No surprises in the Vince interview segment. Pretty standard stuff....The finish of the tag triple-threat match was pretty good, but boy did Murdoch hit hard on his head....I liked them alluding to Flair/Umaga's past while also continuing the Umaga/Kane feud...."Cryme Tyme"? Oh wow, this should be good....Some more good, prolonged action in the main event. Pretty good, I thought.

-The premise to the Cryme Time thing is bad. The promo itself, with the white announcer dude trying to use "street" lingo was hilarious. Is this the WWE response to LAX?

-Definitely shocked to see Super Crazy on Raw, I figured he'd be one of those guys who would never leave SD. Would have liked to see him get more offense in.

-The Jeff Hardy/Maria/paint dry skit was pretty good, but I dont think they necessarily needed her to stick around waiting for it to dry, unless it has some sort of carryover next week.

-This is either 2 or even 3 weeks in a row without Shelton on Raw, I've got this really funny feeling that he might be jumping to SmackDown soon. Call it a hunch.

-Teddy Long comes out and watches the main event. So basically, he's hoping that the guy he's wanting to sign over to SmackDown for 3 years loses at the PPV. That makes about as much sense as the Niners winning meaningless games last year, and taking themselves out of contention for Reggie Bush.

The Unforgiven card is looking pretty good, and I'm tempted to get it, but first things first...time to get the WWE Championship DVD which hits stores tomorrow.

Wow, the first good matches on Raw since Cena/RVD. Nitro/Hardy was in the ***3/4 range before the "fuck" finish, the main event was good, and even Super Crazy got a decent match out of the Minor Masterpiece. We should all look as terrible as Chris Masters though, really now.

BAHAHA WHITE PEOPLE HILARIOUSLY TALKING LIKE BLACK PEOPLE WWE YOU ARE CUTTING EDGE.

But if Cena wins, Teddy gets nuthin'. He has no incentive in wanting anything but a Cena loss. Unless you mean the overall logic and not just Teddy's motivation, in which case yeah that is kind of weird.

Same here, if only because you so rarely get a promising PPV anymore, it's a novelty. You figure Cena/Edge will be good to great, HIAC will at least be booked so that it can't fail and use lots of blood, Trish and Lita have had good matches before, and Jeff and Nitro had a really good match tonight. But I don't really trust them to come through on these anymore; it's more of a pleasant surprise finding out after the fact.

I honestly thought Jeff was gonna press himself against the wet paint on the wall and then run straight to the ring.

Was I the only one that was a little creeped out watching 57 year old Flair sucking face with young Maria ?

I could see Teddy Long purposely costing Cena his match at Unforgiven, thus beginning Teddy's reign as a heel GM.

I was just loving all the time Hardy and Nitro got to do their thing. It wasn't the greatest match in the world, but Hardy hit all his Sabu like spots and it was given the time it needed to become a pretty hot match towards the end.

Everytime Jim Ross said 'Super Crazy' I giggled.

The younger guys were really given the bulk of this Monday's Raw and I think they really put on one of the better shows in awhile, but it could have just been the fact that there was actual wrestling on this show.

Edit: ... and showing Maria watch paint dry, was that a dig on guys like Masters and others by someone in the back?

I could see that. I could also see Teddy Long rooting for Cena to defeat Edge, and then Long trying to talk Cena into signing the three-year contract anyway, thus jumping to Smackdown with RAW's heavyweight title (after all, in storyline terms, wouldn't Cena the champion be a better signing for Smackdown than Cena the defeated challenger?). It's a storyline with several possible legitimate outcomes.

Well, it flowed, it didn't feel like a train wreck.

I wish I could say the same about the recap.

I missed RAW last night, and with Keller not having posted his, I came here in hopes of reading something that would give me an idea about what I missed.

If I could offer up some constructive criticism, the recap doesn't read well unless you saw the show (I guess?).

For example:

I have absolutely no idea what took place in the opening segment, other than I gather than Edge saw John Cena, and they fought.

I'm not trying to flame, I just thought I'd point out that for those of us who didn't see RAW - this doesn't help anyone get a picture.

I might actually enjoy Johnny Nitro if it weren't for Melina and that friggin scream, and would have been incredibly ok if it were Captain Lou Albano at ringside, breaking up the pin for the DQ, and then promptly getting his ass kicked by Hardy afterwards. I guess the scream works for someone, since it was such a huge hit with David Flair and Daffney...?

With Kane, shouldn't they do something different besides the ringpost-pyro? I mean, once you see it taped to the posts, you have to know that as soon as you see Umaga, Kane is only minutes behind...

The Armando Alejandro Estrrrrrrada scrunchy-face was cool. I don't know if I will make it at my desk at various intervals during the day (like I murmur his "ha-ha" to myself), but I liked it.

What is Big Show doing so differently now that makes a match with HHH and HBK seem to be in his favor? Didn't he lose a match in January at a PPV to HHH?

Could it be that RAW is slowly building up a tag team division? ...

I was really surprised to see Super Crazy on RAW. After then initial shock, I wondered how long it would be until he's solely working Heat matches. And what of Psichosis? Is he still with the company? Why not move him to RAW now? You'd have the African-American stereotyped team, the Mexican stereotyped team & the redneck stereotyped team. A recipe for fun, I tell ya ...

Two shockingly good shows in a row (SD and RAW) minus two really offensive segments (Guerreros and Cryme Tyme.) Ton of decent to good wrestling lately.

The Cryime Tyime was goofy and over the top, but it's almost a Muhammed Hassan like bad idea. It just reiterates that invariably they only push minorities who act like morons (Shelton has to become the kid domineered by the Big Black Momma to get a push, Booker has to be a ghetto king.) I think it'll get over like gangbusters, and maybe they'll play it like these guys are parodying ghetto culture, but they're positioning guys who are supposed to be criminals as babyfaces. Only in WWE are we supposed to boo a dude's widow, but cheer hoodies.

Hot crowd, great pop for Teddy there. I like the idea of him sending out SD guys to cause Cena to lose.

Oh, Lita's muttering performance almost seemed intentionally bad it was so forced.

But on the whole, I'd say best Raw of the Year overall. Liked the hell out of the Hardy match and he's looking crisp and over. I liked that the crowd really hated the finish in the 'we want to see Hardy win the belt kind of way.' Bodes well for a hot rematch (expect Jeff to win as it seems they're really not happy with that press conference performance.)

From wwe.com:

Cryme Tyme debuts on RAW
September 4, 2006

Monday night on RAW, Cryme Tyme was introduced to the RAW audience. In an effort to humor and entertain our fans, the tag team known as Cryme Tyme will be parodying racial stereotypes.

Shad Gaspard and JTG do outlandish, outrageous “stunts” to ready themselves for tag team action on RAW. This attempt at Saturday Night Live-like humor is bound to entertain audiences of all ethnic derivations.

We hope you enjoy the weekly adventures of Cryme Tyme.

http://www.wwe.com/shows/raw/articles/09042006/3261698

Well, there you have it.

With the purging of SNL cast members, maybe Cryme Tyme should just jump ship and go L8 Nyte.

Or not.

They need to give Cryme Tyme Elix Skipper's old theme, with a high-pitched voice whining "Cryyyyme Time, baby!".

Also, define "Ghetto King", because to me Booker is just playing a good heel character. There's nothing racial about it.

At least if Cryme Time was going to be Vince's watered down version of the Gangstas, it could be somewhat enjoyable. Instead, just more excuses for bad comedy writing.
When Jim Ross can't differentiate between a table and a chair perhaps it is time for him to go to the Old Hoss Ranch.
Really sad when they have Jeff Hardy insulting someones mic work.
How long will they attempt to sell the McMahon DVD, as hopefully when that goes away, Vince will go away.
I miss pre-NWO Nitro.
Sad that Flair is now just a prop to move along the Umaga/Kane feud.

Well, it's Booker playing a fool, goofy character who fancies himself a King. It's certainly not a positive racial portrayal, but I'm prolly reaching. I actually attended a Nation of Islam rally yesterday (in regards to police officers being a fan of tasering minorities here) so I may be a little sensitive. I certainly wouldn't say it's offensive racially. I love Booker and I love the character, but the idea behind it is Booker (who's character has always been 'let me axe you' this and 'sucka' that) winning a tournament and re-christening himself as a King, complete with fake british accent and malaprops on big words. As has been pointed out, he wasn't World Champion in WWE when he was the humble babyface trying to overcome his past and poor roots.

A bit off topic, I did love when Cole pointed out that Booker couldn't actually knight people as he wasn't a real King. With JBL and the Court playing along with Booker, no face character has pointed out the obvious. JBL responded 'are you saying Haku wasn't a real King?' Tremendous.
