I agree with what some of you have already said; the movie is pretty good, but the pacing is a bit off. Probably if you watch 2 together with 3 the pacing feels more organic, but I thought it was still a problem for this movie. Overall, I had a good time with it, but I still like the first one better. I'm not sure I like what they did with Norrington, making him a baser character and all, but I get the feeling he'll manage to do something noble by the end of the third picture.

I mean, they DO know Entourage is just a TV Show not based in reality, right?

This movie made me so happy. My favorite film of the last two years, dating back to, probably, another seacrested picture, The Life Aquatic.

It was a glorious thrillride, to be sure, but what endeared it to me the most was how what could've been a perfunctory cash-in sequel instead had so much affection for the original movie. Namely in the form of, for one, callbacks~~ (eunuch, sea turtles, 'alo poppet, etc), but for two, utilizing the entire cast from the first film when they could've just as easily cut bait (harrr) on everyone except the big three.

First, I was so thrilled to see Gareth and his mate, and even moreso that they stuck around for the duration as part of the adventures. And then, BEARDED COMMODORE NORRINGTON, MY MAN. And *then*, a certain someone rushed in at the very end to provide the Holy Shit Moment of a Lifetime. Orange you glad I did say apple. I quite enjoy the psychology of everyone from the first film is now a babyface by virtue of being in the first awesome film.

And the major players from the first awesome film are given opportunity to be even more awesomer. Depp goes without saying; he's playing one of my favorite characters ever and he's got a jar of dirt. Orlando Bloom is safely at the high end of how Orlando Bloom can be and is even pretty cool. K^2 was good doing the Jack-a-Roe thing and simply amazing during the boss-as-a-bossophone threeway swordfight. Throwing rocks and fainting, I mean heck. That whole act on the island, with the fight over the key concurrent with the team of Keira, Gareth, and uh ... Oggie battling oceanic spinateys, was just the best thing.

The series continues to charm me far beyond my expectations. By virtue of taking everything I found so delightful about the first film, bringing it back, and then doing bigger, badder things with it and setting up a grand final adventure for next year, I'd call it better than the first and one of the best blockbuster sequels you'll ever get. I give it four-and-a-half starrrrrrrrrs -- or at least I would if that pirate vowel sound joke wasn't among the most hackneyed in the current global climate.

I liked the movie, though I thought it was a bit long.
The first half could probably have been told in less time and unless the canibals have some role in the 3rd one that little side story was very irrelevant except that it made for hilarious moments.

I loved Commodore Norrington. He turned bad-ass. Awesome.
Made me mark out almost as much as Barbossa walking down the stairs. I so didn't see that one coming.

Loved how Sparrow attacked the kraken. Loved how everybody tried to double cross one another.
And I liked the way Davy Jones and his gang looked. Rather original imo.

Great movie, cannot wait for part 3.

I'm glad so many people got into the ending...I thought I was the only one shocked by it. I was literally mouth agape. I can't remember the last time that happened. That moment changed the movie from 4 stars (good but a little dragging at times) to 5 stars (can't WAIT to see the next one). It's funny, too, because they played it up as if you should know who the mystery captain is, while I was going through what I had just seen trying to figure out who it was. Of course, I'm being intentionally vague here, while the secret was already mentioned above. Let me conclude by quoting what my friend said: "You should have been shocked...Geoffrey Rush is a badass!"

As someone who only saw the first film once on DVD about three years earlier, I adore this film. I did not have the manic Sparrow love, nor do I consider myself a fan of either Bloom or Knightley, but this sucker is a solid, thrilling summer movie.

Why is it making a ton of money? No fat jokes, no stupid child to moon over, barely any blood, no harsh language, no winking anachronisms, and we see true villainy, true heroism, & a litle in-between. Attention is rewarded.

Saw POTC yesterday. Saw Dead Man's Chest today.

WOW.

I pray that the third installment isn't a letdown, because this is how you do a sequel and have filmgoers wanting to see a third.

I agree that the cannibal section dragged a bit, but the character interaction for the rest of the movie and the swerve/double-swerve/double-secret probation swerves were golden.

My only question: how was the monkey still undead? Everyone else was mortal -- why wouldn't the monkey be the same?

There's a small scene after the credits of the original that contains your answer.
