Looks like UFC has taken all it can stands and it can't stands no more . . .

Maybe this might be a good time to revisit those negotiations with Brock Lesnar. MMA-trained fighter or not, he's still a 6-4, 260 lb., NCAA champion-mass of muscle. I doubt he'd be THAT MUCH of a pushover for a UFC guy.

Besides, with Angle taking a hiatus, who else would there be?

1) Debatable that even came from the Observer. There's a ton of fake Meltzer stuff floating around.

2) Dumb. UFC is such a fad and they pay their guys peanuts. As far as drawing, UFC is way behind WWE and boxing still. They're on a third-rate network with a history of screwing over sports/entertainment properties. Two, the Angle open challenge stuff was a quick one-liner thrown out by Paul Heyman on commentary. It's not like they had this big build-up to who will be the major star to take up the challenge against Kurt Angle.

I mean, at the end of the day, what got UFC hot: a reality show. Two years from now will they be any different than other 'reality' fads like Jessica Simpson/Nick Lachey or 'The Surreal Life?'

The UFC is hot all over and growing fast. TV ratings say otherwise because wrestling is open to little kids whose families let them watch it. UFC is more of an adult thing, and that would explain why more people I know watch UFC than any kind of wrestling, let alone WWE. I stopped watching wrestling back around January or February, and even then I had stopped watching WWE around the fall - with the exception of ECW:ONS and bits of WM22. Locally, the ultimate fighting events that happen live in a cage get the same size of crowd as WWE's house shows when they're in town.

UFC is just starting, despite being around for a decade or so. They get more celebrities in the crowd per PPV than Wrestlemania ever does. And you can tell they want to be there (as opposed to it being a promotional appearance because they have a movie to push), because they're cheering their asses off just like everyone else.

I'm pretty sure UFC PPVs are beating non-Wrestlemania WWE shows domestically.

They're on a third-rate network with a history of screwing over sports/entertainment properties.

1) How is a network in the same number of households as USA third rate? The only way it's second rate is if network is the only first rate.

2) How did Spike screw over WWE, other than publicly ending negotiations to spite them after WWE made it clear they wanted to go to USA? As for ECW, Spike and TNN are essentially two different channels.

Being that 400,000 people never paid $40 to see Nick and Jessica sing or divorce, I'm thinking yes.

I actually do like UFC, but I think the hubris that comes from Dana White and some of the fighters now that they're getting some media buzz is unfortunate.

I don't have exact numbers, of course, so I was speaking rather casually there. I would say that in overall brand awareness, WWE blasts UFC out of the water in ratings, merch, gates. And it's indisputable that a top level boxing match (or even medium level) generates buyrates that are out of the park for MMA and pro wrestling.
UFC has made great gains in the last few years, but they haven't replaced boxing as legit fighting, nor have they replaced wrestling in the 'sports entertainment' genre.
Not to say they're not doing fabulous, but Dana White's delusions of grandeur aside...UFC is on a hot streak that's going to cool down. I mean, my roommate and his girlfriend get all the UFC PPVS and we have a good time, but cage fighting isn't going to establish long-term brand loyalty. I'm not saying that MMA doesn't have a bright future, I'm going to say I don't have a lot of faith in UFC. I was watching when they started and it was HOT, and then it nearly went away. All we need is John McCain to want some pre-election buzz and UFC's facing a ton of media backlash.

My comment about Spike is that this is a channel that re-brands itself constantly, that is looking for a formula to be successful...they're oversaturating TV already with UFC...a year from now and when/if the rating plateau, will they keep the faith. I shouldn't have said screwing over properties, I'll say they haven't maximized the potential of properties in the path. I wonder if the can manage and nurture a sports property.

And, actually well over 400,000 paid to see Jessica and Nick sing. Jessica Simpson's career took off because of that TV show (Nick Lachey not so much, but y'know.) Her albums sales went into the millions BECAUSE of the show. Reality shows boost sales, but they inevitably have a short shelf life. I'd be more optimistic if they got away from the Ultimate Fighter eventually. The NBA doesn't have to drum up attention by having "Play for the Knicks" reality shows during the summer. If you're going to be a sport, be a sport...don't mix soap opera into it.

Sounds like a better idea than anything else the Knicks can come up with. [rim shot]

I should've said "on pay-per-view," but that was invariably a dumb statement on my part. I can't disagree with the rest of your post.
