Just caught the HBO On Demand of Taylor/Wright. Anyone else catch this? I had it a draw (although with different rounds than Lederman), and had Winky winning the 12th - Taylor didn't land a punch, how the hell could he have won the round?

Two other thoughts - Jim Lamply is definitely biased for the HBO fighters. It was ridiculous how behind Taylor he was - a three-punch flurry that was ENTIRELY off of Winky's gloves would become "Taylor whaling shots off of Winky's head," and such. Lederman and Merchant are pretty fair though.

And Lennox Lewis brings absolutely nothing, except for the ability to say "absolutely" about 12 times a round. Lampley had to lead him into any comments at all. I mean, this is what I expect of Lennox in bed:

Woman: "oh baby, oh Lennox, fuck me, fuck me harder, fuck me harder, yeah yeah yeah, oh Lennox isn't this great?"

Lennox: "Absolutely. This is definitely very great. And I absolutely will fuck you harder."

two minutes later: "Absolutely I'm fucking you harder now. This is definitely great."

Merchant has been useless for a long time. I think I've fast forwarded thru more Merchant diatribes and ramblings more than anything else.

In Lennox' defense, it's not like he's been doing that a long time or anything. Roy Jones wasn't a very good commentator at first but he improved, and Lennox (and the the whole BAD crew, actually) has improved a lot in a couple of months, IMO.

I thought Taylor actually won the fight by a narrow margin. There were a couple of rounds that I thought they gave to Winky that I would've given to Taylor, based on Taylor's harder punches landed, and I thought a LOT of shots by Taylor were only partially blocked by Winky. I was surprised that Taylor got to Winky that much, but I wasn't offended by the draw of anything, and I think Winky REALLY gave away the 12th round and blew it, because Taylor was at least being aggressive for most of the round. (At least I thought that at the time.)

I was pretty bummed out to see the Love Child lose last week after all that build-up.

That's three very lacklustre performances in a row for Taylor -- I'm still waiting for him to even come close to living up to the hype that's surrounded him for some time now.

I mean realistically, he was beaten up by Bernard Hopkins in both of their fights, though he won on the scorecards. Winky took him to school, and I'm reasonably sure they could fight another fifty rounds and Taylor would never have him in trouble. Whether or not Winky could stop him is another question. As great a technical and defensive fighter as Winky is, he doesn't exactly have concrete hands or a killer instinct.

The real excitement is that Jermaine Taylor's next fight could very well be up against "The Contender", Sergio Mora!

I mean, er, ya. I can't believe that kid passes for a contender against top tier fighters. I hope he proves me wrong, but I just don't see him knocking out anyone other than maybe -- maybe! -- a grocery store clerk, and it's doubtful he could survive real pressure from a hard hitter.

We shall see. If it's on free tv, sure, I'll watch, but if Dibella thinks I'm going to shell out real cash to see the Latin Snake on PPV, he's plenty wrong. Of course, there's plenty of reality tv junkies who just might tune in. Stranger things have happened.

You've got to be kidding me. Even if you don't think he won ANY of the fights, the kid fought three competitive fights (and the record books say he's 2-0-1) with two guys who were both pretty much the consensus #2 P4P fighters in the world. Who else has a recent record even close to that? He takes on and fights competitively with the toughest opponents available. What else do you want him to do? Cut down to 147 and knock out Floyd Mayweather?

No, I want him to win, convincingly, in fights where he dictates the pace. He has yet to do that against a serious opponent. And no, I'm not kidding you.

But let me be clear -- I do think he won the Hopkins matches. In a strictly boxing sense, as a sport, Taylor won, on the scorecards, because he won more rounds. Nevermind that all the rounds he won were in the beginning, and that in the latter parts of the fights he was mostly just getting schooled.

Look, the kid has talent, I will give him that, but I really do feel that he was rushed to the spotlight too soon. He wasn't ready to face guys like Hopkins or Wright who have made careers out of dictating the pace of fights. Taylor has yet to really learn how to do that, and until he does I'm just not impressed.

Hopefully Emanuel Steward can bring it out in him. I'm hoping for it -- I want to like Taylor, I want to cheer for him. I'm a boxing fan, and one who rarely gets caught up into "favourite fighters" and whatnot. I just want to see great fights, and Taylor's got the potential to make them happen.
