I'm not going to comment on the whole show since I wasn't paying attention to a bunch of it. Someone who did see all of it can do a recap.

I do hope they are building Regal and Finley into a regular tag team. Those guys could do great as Booker T's protection. Gunner Scott was really interesting to watch as well.

Mark Henry could appear a lot scarier if he didn't have on tight black spandex with sparkly gold trim. I'd put him in different clothes and perhaps have his manager come back to really annoy the crowd.

JBL will hopefully come into his own at the commentary table. I think he did okay for his first night.

I was worried that, although i love JBL's promos, he'd be too overwhelming as a heel colour commentator, and it would be difficult to believe that he wouldn't just beat the hell out of Cole at any point for disagreeing with him. I found myself not minding at all though since he was definitely entertaining, and even in insulting the faces he managed to put them over slightly (e.g. saying Hardy could have been at the level of HBK).

I'm getting bored of Mark Henry killing everyone, even though Chavo was sucking up to the crowd way too much.

Michelle McCool's voice is grating.

When's the last time the WWF/E had a full-blown heel as an announcer? Lawler and Tazz often sided with the "bad guys", but it was pretty obvious that they were still currying the fans' favor; in JBL, we finally have someone that the fans can actually full-out HATE ON.

I thought JBL was pretty good as a heel announcer. I personally agreed with a lot of JBL's comments but I tend to think like a heel. The way he gushed over King Booker's entrance was incredible for putting Booker's new gimmick over. His comments about Matt Hardy were fascinating because I suspect JBL was openly vocalizing the company's position on Hardy. JBL walked the line between entertaining and overbearing but he managed to keep the balance.

Did anybody else notice when Finley was suppose to hit his shoulder into the ring post, his shoulder didn't hit it? All he did was slap the ring post to make the impact sound.

I'm fairly certain his shoudler, you know, isn't SUPPOSED to actually hit the large, stationary metal object.

It's rumored some guys slap their leg when they "kick" someone as well.

JBL sucked dirt as an commentator. Listening to the guy putting himself over for 20 minutes each week while he was a wrestler was bad enough . . . I can certainly do without him doing it for 2 hours now as a commentator.

Plus, I can't stand his voice -- he sounds like he's taking a brutal dump.

Contrast him to another heel wrestler turned announcer -- Jesse Ventura. If Jesse was going to put himself over, he did it before the match, not while commentating the match.

Both Jesse and Tazz knew the mechanics of a match and put that into the matches -- to me, JBL just seems to be doing a lot of talking without any real meaning.

That's right my friend comment on JBL because your #1 spot in The-W league is coming to an end. FINLAY ! FINLAY ! FINLAY !

JBL was kinda annoying. Sure, I liked the way he truly gave King Booker his royal entrance the attention it needed. I wonder if at the hotel he does commentary when Booker is doing his royal entrance in Shamell?

Is it odd that the cruiser weight champion is bigger than the world champion? I can't remember any other time where this was the case.

Oh come on, of course Gregory Helms is bigger then Katharine Close the 13 year old 'word champion'.
She is only 13 and I'm sure she will grow in all ways by next years spelling bee and become a 2-time champion.

Seconded.

I could really watch King Booker for two hours. His look when greeting his royal subjects is HI-larious.

Is Mr. Kennedy heel or face now? Has he even decided on a finisher? He doesn't do the swanton with the guy on his shoulders anymore and now he doesn't even do the swanton.

I jsut know Taker is gonna come back and squash Khali ....after Khali decimates the entire roster, of course. Thus, giving the well-deserved rub to...himself. Yay.

Don't crap too much on JBL for his performance this week. It's his first outing, and being a heel color guy is a much different beast from being a heel promo guy. He's already a great deal ahead of where Tazz was when Tazz first started, and look where Tazz is now - universally acclaimed as the best color guy in the business. Give JBL a chance - it was either this or the RAW GM job. The fact that they chose this for him would indicate to me he's done as a wrestler for good most likely.

Mr. Kennedy's sorta in that tweener phase at the moment that a lot of guys who come back through injuries go through - still acting in the same heelish way, but liked by the fans because they've missed his talent. They'll probably re-establish him as a heel before long - they just need to come up with a storyline for him, that's all.

I've watched very little of SD so far, but it seemed like JBL made absolutely everything about illegal immigration. He should probably get off that. Save it for Mysterio or something -- and I guess you can't really avoid it when the Mexicools come out.

Being a good color commentator isn't easy. Nobody is an overnight smash. It takes time and experience. I think JBL has the natural heel charisma and creativity to pull it off -- I'll be interested to see how he's doing in six months or so.

I like Mark Henry's outfit, despite the sparkly trim. He's worn some terrible stuff in his career. The black spandex suits him -- there's something very no-nonsense about it, like this is a huge, scary, pissed-off man who doesn't think about shit like ring attire. The trim isn't perfect, but I guess it breaks up the monotony a bit.

Has Mr. Kennedy ever feuded with anybody? Tony Chimel doesn't count. I might be wrong, but I don't think Kennedy has ever been involved in any semblance of an angle with anybody. Isn't that strange? He hasn't actually been around that long when you consider his injury, but you'd think someone they're so high on would have been embroiled in something by now. (As a side note, for some reason, I was under the impression that Kennedy was 35, but now it turns out he's only 30. Very good news for his career -- I thought 35 was too old an age to debut and still make a huge splash. Batista did it, but he's a big roided monster.)

Word champion Katherine Close is super cute! Is it OK for me to say that? She's way less awkward and zitty and sweaty than your typical word champion. Yet she's still nerdy enough to do one of the nerdiest things in the world. And she actually goes to public school -- how cool is that? If I were a 13-year-old boy, I'd be all over that shit. (Disclaimer: Actually, no I wouldn't -- I'd be way too awkward and zitty and sweaty to approach her, and then I'd think about it 15 years later and curse at myself and make blowing-my-brains-out hand gestures. It's true!)

I totally agree. He's not perfect yet but for a debut I thought he was really good. Having the gift of gab and experience talking nonstop for x amount of time on his radio show probably gives him an advantage over other verbally-skilled wrestlers in adjusting to the color spot.

I would very much like to see Old Mark Henry start stalking current Mark Henry, wearing his old outfits and attacking him to the Sexual Chocolate music.

He had a kind of sort of program with Bob Holly before No Mercy. But the extent of it was basically the two of them being opposite side tag partners in TV matches between other guys with PPV feuds. Other than that, not really, but like you said, he was only around as a pushed commodity for like a month before he got hurt.

I thought JBL was a little overbearing, but like others have said, he'll probably grow into the role just fine. Which is a shame, because if he's looking for things to do after he gives up wrestling full time, I'd much rather see him as a manager.

Colonel Parker ruled!
The Age of Managers is over in the WWE therefore JBL's ability to piss people off and get his stable over would be wasted. I missed Smackdown this week but I'm looking forward to hearing a heel announcer again.

This is the first time I've watched Smackdown in a few weeks due to not having access to Sky TV, but I have a few points to raise.

How long have they to Rey Mysterio as "World Champion" as opposed to "World Heavyweight Champion"? To my ears, that definitely stood out.

As entertaining as JBL tis on the mic, 2 hours of him every week could prove to be too much. It also seemed to me that every time the camera was on him, he was on his feet. Sit down, for the love of God.

...even in insulting the faces he managed to put them over slightly (e.g. saying Hardy could have been at the level of HBK).

How the hell is comparing Matt Hardy to Marty Jannetty putting him over in any way, shape or form?

The leprechaun? O...kay. Kinda funny, I suppose. Especially when he went for Regal, but then Regal = comedy.

I liked what I saw of Gunner Scott. I'm just waiting for the inevitable Benoit feud because WWE can't have a mentor/student relationship without it breaking down into a program.

Other than that, I thought the rest of the show was just about average.
