And to continue strange old shows on Nickelodeon, what about "You can't do that on Television!" or "Out of Control" with Dave Coulier.(sp?) | chuckc14

There were different bits and pieces of a show he did and they would spread them through the episodes. In one of the bits he was singing the ever popular song "Choppin Brocoli" (later used by Kenny Mayne on sportscenter).

I must correct you on Today's Special. The mannequin came alive when you put the hat on him. He'd revert to mannequin form when the hat would fall off.
I'll confess that I'm creeped out whenever I see Nerene Virgin showing up in newscaster form on CBC. It taints my childhood via the fact she isn't really Jody. She definitely has a new look:
http://www.nwitv.com/international.newsfirst/virgin.html
And here's two phrases for all the fans of Canadian kiddie TV.
"The Polkaroo was here? And I missed him again." "What's that Dumpty?"
And now I'm trying to recall Math Patrol and Cucumber.

Jesus, this takes me back to being... 8-9 years old in 1982-1983. I loved all those Nickelodeon shows. Pinwheel was a great show, if for no other reason (though there were plenty of other good things about it), for: "IT'S CAP-TAAAIN MINUS!!!" (dun dun daaaaaahhhh, dun nuh nuh dun nuh nuh daaaaaaahhhh!!)
A "Hocus Pocus Alamagocus!!" for the "Today's Special" fans out there. And "Turkey Television" fucking ROCKED. C'mon, Ivan Tellalye, Hero of Soviet Union, 85th Class; Thurman T. Turkey; and skits from "The Uncle Floyd Show" (such as "A Day In The Life Of A Food") in the same show?? What more could you ask for??
I even remember some of the short cartoons with Thurman and that pilgrim guy who used to hunt him - the one where Thurman's playing the piano and the guy asks Thurman, "Do you know... 'I'm in the Mood for Love'?" ("No, I don't. Even if I did, but I don't!")... well, you had to be there, I guess, but I would LMAO at that one... | rinberg

Hey, if the Sid and Marty Krofft shows can get collected on DVD, anything's possible, I bet. Rhino's probably already on the case.

Damn, I watched Nick religiously as a kid. Tomorrow People was my favorite since it was sci-fi aimed at a younger audience that didn't insult your intelligence.
Too bad the only thing "You Can't..." is known for nowadays is the fact that Alanis Morrisette was on it breifly. Just thinking of my makes we want a Barth Burger.
I even remember when their logo was the silver ball and they had a jingle for the channel when it signed off.
Look around, we can find a world of magic. Look around, we can make the world your freind. Silver ball in the air. See it glow everywhere. See it glow Here we go Nickelo Here we go Nickeloooooodeon!

Which they've already good and axed before they ran all the episodes. Damn Sept 11th for giving 'em the excuse.
At least they didn't pervert it like "Ren and Stimpy" and allowed them to do a final episode for X-mas. |
