I just felt compelled to post this, since I'm not sure if anyone's checked out one of [adult swim]'s latest bumpers tonight. Talk about redemption from the 'Saved By The Bell' debacle!

For those of you who may have not seen the bumper in question, the only text on the screen reads is, "Remember This?" while the mellow intro to the 'Pee Wee's Playhouse' theme is playing. And then the date pops up just as you can hear the door knock before the song begins.

It MUST be the return of Pee Wee! As much of a fan as I was/am of that show, there can be no doubt!

Discuss, folks!

Ugh. How is this a hard concept? CARTOON Network. CARTOON. This is not a judgement on Pee Wee's Playhouse other than the fact that it is not CARTOON, but please just stop. please.

Those who crusade for strict network name branding (i.e. those who still cringe each second MTV doesn't have a music video on) are fighting a losing battle against the powers-that-be of cable television. I gave up a long time ago.

Where were you when Snow Day aired?

Am I the only one who remembers Penny?

Yes, a much better choice than Saved By the Bell, cartoon or not.

Or Penny, or the food in the refrigerator, or the other stop-motion animation characters, Or Magic Screen? If *any* live-action show fit with Cartoon Network, It'd have to be Pee-Wee's Playhouse.

[adult swim] hasn't been "Cartoon Network" for over a year, so the whole "cartoon" argument shouldn't really be happening.

On its face, it's a much better programming choice than SBTB but since I don't have to worry about this for a month, I'm going to ignore it until then. In the meantime...

Ok, I concede that Pee Wee's Playhouse would actually fit pretty well with some of the [as] content and it does have alot of stop-motion animation and it would be kinda cool to see Pee Wee again. I guess I'm still scarred from the SBTB travesty or something.-- And scared of what they'll try next....

As far as Snow Day or, more recently, Spiderman, I didn't mind so much that they would show a live-action movie. I couldn't tell you why I feel differently about live-action TV shows. I just don't know.

And for the record, I don't cringe because MTV doesn't air music videos. I cringe because of what MTV airs in place of music videos.

Agreed, I forgot about all of the animation they had on there. Should be cool either way. It was a great show, even if he did get caught with his hands down his pants.

And here I thought "Remember This?" was a name of a new show, which would be a series of jokes about popular culture and children's entertainment from the 1980's.

But I actually would like to see Pee Wee's Playhouse again! Pee Wee Herman was basically a live cartoon character anyway, so why not? It'll be better than any of their shitty comedy shows that aren't the Boondocks or Futurama or Family Guy.

Here's a little info.

http://www.animationmagazine.net/article.php?article_id=5503

Maybe it's time for Adult Swim to become its own channel.
Then AS can show its current line-ups plus stuff like Land of the Lost, Wonder Woman and Sid and Marty Kroft's shows

The programmers have gone out of their way for awhile now to distinguish between "Adult Swim" and the "Cartoon Network" lineup that airs during the day. And for ratings purposes, it already has become its own network.

The Kroft stuff is all ready being shown on Boomerang, a cartoon network spin-off channel. They also show all the old Superfriends, Justice League and Teen Titans cartoons from the 60's and 70's- as well as the Batman, Superman and Justice League cartoon from not too long ago.

Land of the Lost runs on TNT at 4 or 5am on weekdays.

jwreslte,

I do not think Pee Wee was a perv at all. he got caught at an adult store looking at adult pornography and masturbating. Outside of getting caught pleasuring himself, nothing he did was illegal. Do you mean to tell me YOU never looked at porn? I have. I think he got a bad wrap for that and it pretty much killed his career. I loved his show and look forwar dot seeing it again.

I would never call Pee Wee a perv. Stupid yes, but not a perv. How many people in America do what he did at home? The only difference is he got caught and was someone famous. If he was Joe No body, people would cry that it was a waste of taxpayers money and that the cops should be putting away REAL criminals. But in America, we always want famous people to fall and fail. Thus the public outcry.

Never say never...in fact I worked at and adult video/book store. I've been asked every question under the sun on sex, masturbating, and ways to pleasure the human body. I also knew people who would spend whole Saturday night in one of the booths in the back and walk out to go to church Sunday morning.

Beside the point, yeah Paul Reubens got a freaking bad rap. All I remember is my friend had a Pee Wee Herman talking doll and his mom through it a closet to never been seen again. I never actually knew the story, thanks for catching me up, behind the backlash of him going down in flames.

Plus, we all have our level of perversion in the current society we are living. People who can't control acting out on men, women, or children actually deserve what ever sentence they get from a judge. Not just 60 day if the crime is really bad, referring to an Ohio case earlier this year. You're also right we do more in our own homes than what he did. I'll also stop rambling on now because if I'm not careful this have to be moved to politics.

On a technicality my sig is a bit pervish or at least on the right side. Eh...

I should have forgotten the Pee Wee jokes that went around during that era?

What is Pee Wee Herman's favorite Baseball team?

the Yanks.

What's Pee Wee's second favorite baseball team?

the Expo's (expose)

What did Pee Wee say when people started calling him a perv?

I know what you are, but what am I?

At the time this all went down, I recall that more folks were shocked that his mugshot didn't look at all like PeeWee, but a creepy looking long-haired Paul.

PeeWee's Playhouse was on the Family Channel (or whatever it was called then), circa 2000. It was slapped in with their regular cartoons and kids' shows around 3pm, so not many Big Kids watched it. It'll probably find a bigger audience on [as]

When PeeWee got busted, I was working in a retail store. We had roughly 20 PeeWee Herman dolls that had been sitting in our toy clearance aisle for YEARS. Nobody ever looked at them, they were just taking up space. After he got busted, we sold ALL of 'em in less than two weeks.

There was some comedian at the time who said that what PeeWee was doing in the theatre was acceptable behavior for the venue. If Sam Kinison had been in there, nobody would've thought weird of it.

I have to apologize, for when I originally posted this thread, I erroneously stated (in the thread title no less) that Pee Wee's Playhouse would return on June 10th rather than July 10th.

CRZ, do you think it'd be possible to change the thread title so as to mention the correct date? Sorry for me being a moron.

(edit: Thanks for the date change, CRZ, or whomever it might have been who has helped me save what little face I've got!)
