At least now ESPN doesn't have to break in for every Bonds at bat. And, the pitcher who gave up #715 won't even have that as one of the top 3 or 4 moments people think of when they remember his career.

Ha. True, but I don't think that's necessarily a good thing.

He's also 'number two' in the bathroom colloquialism kind of way.

715*

[Edit: It doesn't show up very well in this font, but that's an asterisk at the end.]

Not to be a stickler, but technically he was number two the moment he tied Ruth with 714.

Is that because he's older than Babe was? Or is it because he's never been the type of guy to visit the White House?

His sports acheivements are getting diminished because of an indictment of his personality. If he were a friendlier guy, there's be no issue. It would have been brushed under the table.

Perhaps if his godfather Willie Mays didn't piss off the baseball gods by popping open champagne in the 7th inning of Game 6 in '02 when the Giants had a lead then Bonds would have visited the White House.

    Breaking News

    Bonds Strikes Out On ESPN

By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 6/4/2006 4:52:00 PM

Bonds stopped short of 715, at least on TV.

ESPN has pulled the plug on reality show Bonds on Bonds.

According to ESPN, Bonds representatives wanted creative control for the final episode, which Tollin/Robbins Productions and ESPN have been unwilling to give throughout the project.

The next episode was to have taked a behind the batting cage look at Bonds' 715th home run.

Darn, and I never watched it. Ohhhhhhh wait. NOBODY watched it; that MAY have been a rather glaring problem. ;-)
